National headlines now about faculty and the head football coach walking out until MU president Tim Wolfe resigns. All because of a couple of minor incidents that he had no control over. Someone paints a swastika, someone else smears feces, and a truck goes by with some rednecks yelling the n word. What could he have possibly done about that, or more importantly, what could another president have done differently? The whole thing is blown out of proportion, and primarily the fire is being stoked by the media, otherwise this would have died quickly.
Disclaimer, it's my alma-mater, and I live just a few miles from campus. I like Pinkel, he's truly a good guy in every respect.
This is far from the first time that our faculty has refused to attend classes, or coaches refused to coach, until their demands are met. I've always believed that they don't have the right to do that, but if they did their paychecks should cease the minute they stop working. And that they should be liable for the chain reaction of events they started.
Student chooses a college, then mid-semester prof refuses to teach. Student should get a refund since he's not getting the education he paid for. The striking prof should be made to reiumburse the college for the refund they had to pay. Not only that, but now the student is behind schedule for graduation - so there's an incurred cost there the prof should be liable for.
It's not the real world, of course. But that's what would happen if I made the rules.
I just can't imagine going to my boss and saying "I don't like you, and I don't like the way you're running this place. As of now I'm going to the national press to tell them what a terrible job you're doing until you agree to quit. And by the way, I don't plan on coming to the office until then but I still expect my paychecks to hit my account every month.
-
I saw that in the news last night, but didn't really understand the issue. Thanks for clarifying.
The football team may boycott the game? With millions of dollars at stake? Watch this be "fixed" by Wednesday.
-
Agree completely that the president didn't have a dog in the hunt. Furthermore agree that those refusing to work should be doing so sans pay. It would be fun to watch the students file suit personally against the faculty for breach of contract which is essentially what paying tuition amounts to.
-
Well, that was fast. The president folded like a cheap suit.
What did he do again?

There were a couple if isolated incidents. A truck of rednecks drove by a group of black students and yelled the n word at them. Someone painted a swastika. Fecal matter was smeared somewhere, I forget the details on that, but it was supposed to be racially motivated. Wolfe didn't pander to the black crowd enough and they took that as him being insensitive to their plight.
Inmates run the asylum now.

The Heckler's Veto is alive and well.

I suspect it was not the leading community agitator on a nearly incoherent hunger strike, but the football team work strike that pushed the issue. As irrational as their demands may have been, each and every university that is reliant on nearly unpaid student labor for their multi-million dollar sports programs is in the same exact position.
-
... each and every university that is reliant on nearly unpaid student labor for their multi-million dollar sports programs is in the same exact position.
It's only unpaid if you don't count that $100K+ free college education. But yeah, I know what you're saying.

Was The Poop Swastika Incident At Mizzou A Giant Hoax? (http://thefederalist.com/2015/11/10/was-the-poop-swastika-incident-at-mizzou-a-giant-hoax/)
Something stinks at the University of Missouri. A reported incident of vandalism at Mizzou sparked university-wide protests, a boycott by the school’s 4-5 football team, and eventually the resignation of the university’s president and chancellor.
There’s only one problem: no evidence of the alleged incident, in which a poop swastika on the wall of a dormitory restroom was reported, has ever been made publicly available. Did this incident occur as reported, or was it an immaculate defecation that formed the foundation of an unimaginable deception?
Maybe the Mizzou President was happy to get out of the madhouse?
Oh, and there's also this, file under "Check Your Privilege":
"The newspaper says that [Mizzou student hunger striker Jonathan] Butler's father is Eric L. Butler, executive vice president for sales and marketing for the Union Pacific Railroad. His 2014 compensation was $8.4 million, according to regulatory filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission."

From what I've read he was told to resign. And the protesters were tweeting last night about how the KKK had arrived in town. The only problem is that no one can find any evidence of that either.
Truly, this is one of those things that w/o the media swarming even I wouldn't have heard a thing about this do-nothing protest.
They just wanted attention and got it. Apparently they're losing some support though since they can no longer articulate exactly what it is they're demanding now that they got everything they originally wanted.

Hunger strike student in his eight year at Mizzou (http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/jonathan-butler-how-grad-students-hunger-strike-toppled-university-president-n460161). Supposedly pursuing his masters. I thought those took 5 years, maybe six. Mr. Blutarsky?

At least one racist piece of scat (no offense to scat intended) resigned before being removed.
"Yesterday was an historic day at MU — full of emotion and confusion. I have reviewed and reflected upon the video of me that is circulating, and have written this statement to offer both apology and context for my actions," Click, an assistant professor in the Department of Communication, said in a statement released Tuesday afternoon by the College of Arts and Science.
"I have reached out to the journalists involved to offer my sincere apologies and to express regret over my actions. I regret the language and strategies I used, and sincerely apologize to the MU campus community, and journalists at large, for my behavior, and also for the way my actions have shifted attention away from the students’ campaign for justice," the statement said.
Campaign for justice my rump.

I could be wrong, but I thought Click was still there. The prof who resigned was a white guy who said he was giving exams and told his students to not be worried about the bullies (the protestors). And for that he was pressured to resign. Of course, some of his minority students forwarded the email to the press, which sped the resignation along.
-
I heard during lunch that she resigned and validated via the local rag. It could be a fluid situation so we should know for sure in a day or two.

These kids are going to hate the real world if something so innocuous gets their panties in a wad.

Now we learn that the student body president falsified the statement about the Klan being on campus. Makes this guy wonder about his credibility about the initial allegation of a group of white kids calling out a black kid as a "ni^^ger".
As an aside, if the school is so racist, how in Sam Hill did a black kid become student president?
Where's that picture of the scat swastika? I now believe everything about this situation was made up out of whole cloth.

Apparently the progressive left got so lucky selling their lies in Ferguson, that they've moved on to dismantle the University with a new set of lies.
Good work racist, babbling, idiots.

Mizzou has started publishing their new improved curriculum online!

That was simultaneously funny yet sad.

The hecklers veto is about to take a very dark turn - mark my words.
Time to watch Idiocracy again, 'cuz that's where we are headed without a significant course correction.
I just didn't think it would occur during my lifetime.

There are still a few places where one can get an actual education. HERE’S ONE (http://www.hillsdale.edu/)

I bet HE won't resign or anything over it. After all, it's only something he personally did, as compared with the University president.
The more I hear about that cluster fuck, the more I think the President wanted out of the asylum and was all too happy to resign. Any parent sending their kids there is committing parental malpractice.
-
In an era where literally NOTHING happens that isn't captured on a cell phone, isn't it interesting that there absolutely no proof that the poop swastica ever happened.

Interesting parallels

Excellent read. Thanks.
I'm sure this article will be BANNED and BURNED on the enlightened college campuses of today.

The Mizzou Special Snowflakes are pissed that Paris is taking all their media attention.
-
He he. I'm sure you're right. Paris is a micro aggression.
-
It's my understanding that some Mizzou students were involved in a threat of violence being perpetrated against students at the Howard University Campus (an HBCU in DC). Not sure of how that all went down, but as I understand it was just a threat and wasn't carried out.

The BLM special snowflakes took over the library yesterday with their bullhorns and yelling.
Why do I have this funny feeling that that was the first time the BLM special snowflakes ever stepped foot in the library?

It can't be a coincidence that this happening right as "students" get ready for finals. These clowns are looking for clever ways to intimidate the university into giving away A's that are as useless as their degrees.
