I was going to place this in Jaybird's "Modern Day racism looks like your friendly neighborhood banker" thread, because it is directly related to that story. However, I think it deserves it's own thread, and would get lost in his "everyone is racist" theme.
From the article:
"Newly uncovered internal memos reveal the Obama administration knowingly exaggerated charges of racial discrimination in probes of Ally Bank and other defendants in the $900 billion car-lending business as part of a “racial justice” campaign that’s looking more like a massive government extortion and shakedown operation.
"So far, Obama’s Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has reached more than $220 million in settlements with several auto lenders since the agency launched its anti-discrimination crusade against the industry in 2013. Several other banks are under active investigation.
"That’s despite the fact that the CFPB had no actual complaints of racial discrimination — it was all just based on half-baked statistics."

o-blow-me and his band of merry morons. The chief racists, slanted liars, egomaniacs, and most prolific criminal enterprise in the United States.

And to parody what Stan thinks what I said: (Oprah Voice) "you're a racist and you're a racist and she's a racist and he's a racist and everybody's a racist!"
:D :D :D

I was going to post that meme on all the racism-is-everywhere threads but it made me sad to think about it after a while so I let it go.
I did chuckle when I read this though.

@Jaybird; I think "sad" is a better word than I used.

It sounds like an old Dr. Pepper commercial: I'm a Pepper, you're a Pepper, he's a Pepper ...

Clearly, not everyone is racist. You have to have the ability to be racist. But there are a lot of racism bystanders and pretend not to seers. The worse though: the ones who get "outraged"...and that's all they do.

So, no comment about the article?

The institutionalized racism we currently have is the cause of the PROGRESSIVES who focus almost solely on racial issues like Diversity, Multi Culturalism, and Inclusiveness as a holy mantra. It is tearing us apart, and promoted by the Government, Media, Education cabal.

Sure. Right. Heard that before.
It is usually promoted by those seeking to excuse Black racism because Black people lack power, and therefore, lack the "ability" to be racist.
That is just pure unadulterated hogwash.

Is that what he meant? That you have to be in a position of power to be racist?

That is precisely what was said by either JB or Redtail on the blue board. And I suspect that's what Jaybird intended to imply.
-
Why should anyone waste time with something that doesn't affect them? If you can't adversely impact my life, why should it matter? It doesn't.
Nothing has meaning except the meaning we give it. I will not give "racist words" power. But if your words inspires someone to (in)action, that's different.

People with money and an argument won't and don't accept bullying very well. I think they can handle themselves.
But I do understand the concept of paying someone to go away. It's unfortunate, but happens.

As do Sharpton, Rev Jackson and the rest of the race hustlers. It's a lucrative business for some....

So you're ok that no proof of racism appeared, yet the banks were still extorted of millions of dollars.
And you wonder why we have a race problem.

Do you have any proof that these men personally benefit from any of the causes they represent?

How did Jesse Jackson's net worth grow to $10 million? A good mutual fund?
I'd love to audit Operation PUSH.

Are you really wanting to defending the personal finances of Sharpton or Jackson?

you want Jaybird to admit that race hustling is a business, and business is GOOD? Have you been drinking? ;)

No idea. Are you suggesting that he should be dirt poor? Remember he was once a presidential candidate. I figure he ought to be able to command an honorarium when he speaks.

Hmmmm is that what they call extortion now... honorarium..... Whatever we call it now, apparently it's a very lucrative business.

Left with no safe place to continue his racists nonsense, Jaybird elects to duck and play the stupid card.
Well done.

Perhaps there is a bit more to the story than what the NY Post presents?
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/ally-bank-name-same-old-205100352.html
From the Yahoo Finance story:
However, the settlement agreement notes that the higher mark-ups charged to minorities “are a result of Ally’s specific policy and practice of allowing dealers to mark up a consumer’s interest rate above Ally’s established buy rate and then compensating dealers from that increased interest revenue.”
In his statement, Cordray said, “Whether or not Ally consciously intended to discriminate makes no practical difference. In fact, we do not allege that Ally did so. Yet the outcome, and the harm to consumers, is the very same here.”
So, if the CFPB did not allege racial discrimination, how were they bullied to pay a racial settlement without proof? Sound to me more like a scheme to rig interest rates to the benefit of the dealer and/or Ally Bank and they got caught. Also seems as though this isn't the first time this has happened..
