Title: Dr wait room times=Bullshit!
Post by: jb1842 on February 24, 2022, 08:17:42 AM
Showed up at 9:35 for a 9:45 apppointment. 10:16 and still in the waiting room. I want my co-pay back! I'm going to call billing and complain when I'm done. My time is valuable. This is BS.

Come on back to Wisconsin. I went to a Froedtert urgent care last week for an issue. Was examined by MD, had a blood test, got blood test results, had a CT scan, radiologist read CT, was told of diagnosis by MD, given Rx, and left all within 2 hours.

wrt urgent care or ER visits, I learned that being moved to the head of the line is NOT a good sign.  Even worse is going straight into Trauma 1.

I have experienced this from both sides, and I understand both sides.  But when it comes to human doctors, I have less sympathy.

In our vet clinic, we could look at our schedule and be jam packed with no room to schedule anything else.
But two things could happen:
Half the appointments would just not show up and we were twiddling our thumbs all day,
or everyone showed up and we would have a half dozen emergency walk-ins.  What should we do when someone walks in with a bleeding, or critically ill animal?

We always TRIED to leave at least one free appointment slot for each doctor in both the morning and the afternoon.  That was almost always too much or too little, and very very occasionally just right.  Our doctors rarely got a lunch break, or were able to leave for home on time.  That last thing is really a problem with women doctors that have to go home to feed their kids and husbandsl   ::)

Our best (but lousy) solution was to keep an eye on who was waiting in the waiting room and keep them informed of why they were waiting and offer them either a discount on their visit, or to reschedule.  I don't know any other vet clinic that did that.  And I know that NONE of the human doctors I visit do that.  I am of the opinion that there is no reason for their lack of customer service, except that insurance companies lock their clients into certain doctors, and the doctors are so overworked these days they don't really care how inconvenienced the clients are.

I'd like to hear some input from some human doctors if we have any that visit this site.

My daughter’s vet practice gives the docs 2 hours mid-day, which includes a lunch break if they can take it. That time is usually filled with catching up on records, emergencies, carryover from the AM (I.e. comes in for a dental and ends up being a 3 hour dental because teeth are rotted or broken.). My daughter bought a house 10 minutes from her clinic, so she often can get away to go home and let her Labs out and grab a quick lunch.

A few years back I broke my humurus, a distal spiral fracture. I walked into the ER, holding my bad arm against me using the good arm. Waiting room was pretty full, but the triage nurse takes one look at me and says "Let me see if we have a bed open." She comes back 30 seconds later and says follow me, sir, we'll get some pain meds going.

Ended up needing 8 screws and one very long plate, internal fixation.

About a year or so ago I had blood in my stool, started feeling really lethargic, then one night passed out in my kitchen, briefly. The next morning I took an Uber to the local hospital ER.  This was at the height of Covid and this large hospital is EMPTY. I had three doctors and two nurses attending to me immediately.  I was in for three days with internal bleeding and required three blood transfusions as my hemoglobin was below 4.

Are you by chance on a keto diet?   ;)

That happened to me a few years ago after my Doc told me to stop (or cut back) on my drinking.
After that happened, I stopped cutting back and all was well again.

No.  I was taking lots of Benadryl and Ibuprofen daily which is not good.  So, since, I've stopped that as I really don't need them anymore and all is well.

I’ve been following this guy for guidance on intermittent fasting.  I’ve been low carb for a while (but not no carb), but his stuff seems to make sense.

However, I sent this video to my wife and daughter asking what they think, and they both said “Um, no.”

My doctor recommended intermittent fasting. I just can’t do it.  I know it’s great for your health but I don’t have the willpower.  I also wish I could stick to a carnivore keto diet but I am literally a hopeless carb addict and it will be the death of me.

My husband and I both had appointments with the same retina specialist today. His was 8:15 and mine was 12:30.  It’s in another city and we drive together so were planning to stay in the city between appointments and find something to do. The scheduling person couldn’t make them back to back, said there were no openings.

When we got there at 8:15 they were checking him in and I asked if they could go ahead and check me in too for my 12:30.  She said “Well why don’t we just see you now too?  All the other patients canceled this morning because it’s raining.”   Because it’s raining?  People blow off their retina doctor for rain?  It wasn’t freezing rain, it wasn’t even a hard downpour or thunderstorm either, just a little regular rain that was already ending by the time we got there.

So we were both done and out by 9:00.  I told my sister about how people canceled just because of rain and she said oh yeah now that everybody is working remotely they won’t get dressed and go anywhere unless the weather is perfect.  I’m gobsmacked.  I would think people would prioritize their vision and keep retina appointments but what the hell do I know.
