PILOT SPIN

"...one wing is stalled more than the other."
Is there such a thing as a wing being partially or not fully stalled? I'm thinking...no. It's either stalled (broken boundary layer) or it's intact.
Educate me.
Caveat: a design could have a wing designed with washout (twist) so that one portion along its span stalls before another portion.
-
stall is a function of AOA.
It is my understanding that, at least on the cherokee, the wing root has a different angle of attack than the outer parts of the wing. The purpose of that is so there is aileron authority even when there is reduced lift.
so, as you recognized, with twist, one part of the wing will in fact stall first
-
Agree with Bob. No time to elaborate further at the moment.
-
The design goal of the twist is to provide the pilot aileron feedback in the yoke, a little more stall margin and additional roll stability at the overall cost of aerodynamic efficiency in flight.
However, this definition...is it what makes an airplane spin?

I found only one web site that discussed the meaning of the phrase in any depth:
https://www.boldmethod.com/learn-to-fly/maneuvers/spin-recovery-purpose-of-each-step/ (https://www.boldmethod.com/learn-to-fly/maneuvers/spin-recovery-purpose-of-each-step/)
Basically sounds like they are using it as synonymous with "one wing is producing less lift than the other."

I have no idea what you’re talking about, but, questions like this make me want to go do a deep dive into aerodynamics. I can’t manage it. Too many pain pills and need another nap….

I've found that studying aerodynamics is best done on pain pills. Really spacy stuff, man. Far out!

Only if the pain meds work! Mine didn’t. I didn’t even get the spacy part, which I was so looking forward to.
I asked the ortho guy if it was common that pain meds don’t work and he said it’s mostly people with red hair. Whaaaaat???? Can’t decide if he was pulling my leg, pun intended.

They’re just making me sleepy. No fun spacey stuff.

Does it help if inserted into definition #4 is the italicized word slang at the beginning?

Don't mention it.

The medical community has known for a long time that medicines affect ethic groups differently, but they can't say it out loud and they would be open to lawsuits if they administered care with the consideration for a different standard or techniques for anyone other than a prototypical Caucasian male patient.

Patently untrue. Lawsuits for ignoring salient factors in treatment are far more to be avoided.
Our daughter in her second year of residency says it is stringently taught and practiced to give special consideration to blacks and women, who tend toward the hysterical. Doctors are held to that standard because there is a tendency to believe the person is overreacting, which may not be the case.
I haven’t asked her if excitable Italians or stoic Brits or overanalytical Danes get any special treatment.

Sounds like veterinarians who have to treat different species.

They don't work because redheads have no soul.

I paint with a broad brush and you condemn with a roller.

Every redhead I’ve known is batshit crazy.
Perfect for you Anthony!

No, still lost.
But I need to go read it again (Bob’s link) and Jim’s link and go find my aerodynamic engineering textbooks (ha!) and puzzle it out and I’m still hobbling around with a walker and can’t get to my desktop because the walker won’t fit between the furniture in my tiny office and I’m doing all this on my iPad which makes it hard to read pdfs plus I’m still on drugs. Apparently I can opine about politics but tackling what makes a wing stall is a whole ‘nother thing.

Hey now! My wife is a red head.
So yeah. You're right.

hmmmm, there was one redhead in my high school class. A nice normal teenage girl. Not crazy like so many of the other girls.
Sadly, I was not smart enough to pursue her.
-
The redhead in my school was my friend a year behind me. She was the preachers daughter. Too bad she went full liberal retard. Now she is an "actress" in NYC.

Thread is in unrecoverable spin - bail out!

I recently was put on Plavix.
In my research (yes, I'm an overanalytical Dane), I found out that as many as 30% of Caucasians are unresponsive to it. But they put me on it without follow up blood tests.

By Jaybird’s reasoning, that can’t happen. White males are the narrow standard to which doctors prescribe, regardless of race. I presume testing to see if it is working would be within that same narrow standard.
-
I paint with a broad brush and you condemn with a roller.
Hahaha! You specified Caucasian male. I introduced five people groups and an actual doctor’s statement into the discussion. I win for inclusivity. ;)
-
I don’t know about race but traditionally drugs were tested on males not because “the patriarchy” but because of the possibility women could be pregnant so it was easier to just avoid that.
-
You gonna jump on this grenade?
No. God no.

Meaning she’s a waitress, right?
Yep. At least as the main source of income. Granted she is extremely talented and does a lot of of broadway stuff, small shows, and used to work cruise ships, but the bills are paid by waitressing.

If she is an "actress" in NYC, I think that means she is a waitress, pretending to have a career just around the corner.

I get no euphoria from Opioids and get off them quickly. My doc prescribed me a non opioid for pain recently. Gavabenten. Don't like how it makes me feel so just on normal doses of Ibuprofen now, which works for me. Fortunately, I won't even need that soon.
-
Gabapentin, I would stay away.

I don't know how to spell it obviously. Took it once. Didn't like it. Did u have a bad experience?

My wife took it for years, either as a preventative for Migraines or to stop seizures, don't remember which. Turned into a zombie.
More recently we were giving to our oldest cat and it turned her into a zombie.
-
sometimes prescribed for pain from shingles.
For me, it was effective... not nirvana, but effective.
-
They put mom on gabapentin recently for her latest nerve pain from collapsed vertebrae. It seems to help the pain but makes her a bit more demented. I took it years ago and it did nothing whatsoever for me. Didn’t help pain, didn’t make me feel anything bad or good. Tried several weeks to give it a chance, but nothing. Might as well have been a placebo which probably would have worked better.

Maybe we now know what FJB is on...................

The medical community is so snake bitten on Opiods they go to other stuff like Gabapentin. My doc's not going to give me any more Percocet so gave me that instead. No thanks. I'll stick with Ibuprofen.

The whole war on opioids is a DISASTER. They’re using wretched druggies to keep honest people like you and me from getting pain relief, all for political points. It’s what I used to hate the most about the GOP beginning with Reagan (yes I loved him but disagreed with him on this although in his defense he was trying to address the problem with crack cocaine destroying the inner cities, yes a racist Republican trying to help the black community but I digress) and now the Democrats are just as bad if not worse, because it’s the authoritarian alphabets like the DEA, FDA, FBI all trying to control what people do with their lives like the psychopathic control freaks you become when you get federal power with no accountability.
They don’t give a fuck how the common patient suffers nor do they care how they destroy doctors reputations and careers.
The whole reason we have poisonous illegal drugs is the government bans on safe opioids drives their invention. FUCK the government on this and every other thing they stick their filthy fingers in my personal business.

Gabapentin messed me up. I felt mentally screwed up fron it. One time I walked into the women's restroom at a store and stood there for a bit and had no idea why I was in there.

My mom insisted my sister put the newspaper in the refrigerator. That’s the kind of thing we think gabapentin is doing to her, sounds about right with your experience. But it does seem to help her pain so we are trying to find a dose that helps but doesn’t mess her up too bad. We have the morphine but are holding off on that unless she gets so bad she starts begging Jesus to take her because we know it will block her up. We are just glad to have it on hand. We can’t stand to see her suffer, she’s the sweetest lady on the planet.
