Before you answer, consider that most voters know very little, and simply go on gut feeling or instinct.
I think only Carson or Fiorina could beat Hillary. Carson, because he is soft spoken and considerate. All the other men would be perceived--however wrongly--to be attacking her. Fiorina could beat Hillary because she is smart, and she can get as nasty as she likes, but never be accused of beating up on a woman.
-
Perhaps the DOJ after the FBI is done with their investigation. I can't help but wonder if Uncle Joe is sitting it out at this point because he knows something about this and will sweep in and come to the rescue at the last minute after Hillary is indicted? I know, conspiracy theory stuff.

I like those choices. I also think Ted Cruz has a distinct ability to explain the benefits of conservatism; he can also eviscerate Hillary in a debate.
One that honestly is surprising me is someone I vowed never to support - Chris Christy. He has been powerful in these debates, without being idiotic. I could get behind him.
-
I like the combo ticket of Trump/Carson (or the other way around), I think they'd have a *chance* of beating Hillbilly. Still, though, I have a sinking feeling that nothing the GOP can offer is going to stop us from enduring 8 years of Clinton.
Many many people voted for Obama because they wanted a black president, regardless of his politics and policies. I think many more women are going to vote Hillary because they want a woman president.

Glad I'm not the only one who was impressed with Christie. He comes across as one of the most unflappable on stage but his electability is a big question.

It is funny, because I had thought from the beginning that Christie and Jeb would be the front runners. Christie is both brilliant as well as good at thinking on his feet.

I'd love to see the FBI beat her.

I'm guessing she's first in line for a presidential pardon and that most of her supporters will not be swayed. >:( >:( >:(

The more I see of Christie, the better I like Cruz.

"When asked if a fear in God is an important quality for president at the National Religious Liberties Conference in Iowa on Friday, Cruz said, "Any president who doesn't begin every day on his knees isn't fit to be commander in chief of this nation.""

Lost me right there.

Are you talking to me?
If and when a commander in chief must decide whether or not to launch a war, I'd prefer that decision be made using logical analysis based on the best available information. As opposed to what Revelations foretells or what a voice in his or her head tells them to do while on their knees.
If that's bigotry, then so be it.
-
Yep, it's sooo much better when POTUS thinks of himself as the most powerful entity in the universe. Humility has no place in politics.
-
Exactly. Nothing is more frightening than a politician who considers no greater power than themselves.
-
Great.
There must be a name for what happens when our president, guided by his God, goes to war with an Ayatollah, guided by his God.
Oh, I remember - Holy War.
Sounds like great plan. It's worked out do well in the past!

It is and your excuses are lame, thin, and silly.

Boy, that turned ugly in a hurry.
Thinking about it, I'm not seeing how my life is better engaging in such a fashion. As such, this tab is getting closed, at least for now.
You guys have fun.
-
I see.
You are embracing the University of Missouri, spoiled brat card, and whining about those evil people who are allowed to disagree with you.
Good that you found some folks who are your intellectual equals, and can emulate them.
-
It is and your excuses are lame, thin, and silly.
Boy, that turned ugly in a hurry.
Yeah it did. Internet tough guys with little peepees are like that.
-
So, aside from the FBI, whom do you think can defeat her?
-
So, aside from the FBI, whom do you think can defeat her?
Rubio or Fiorina.
I think that Trump and Carson have peaked and it will be hard to turn anyone that is not already supporting them.
Jeb has not shown any spark in this election, and he has his last name to contend with.
Too many people just don't like Cruz.
I think if Rubio gets the nomination, and if he makes a sane VP selection, and if the party gets behind him, I think he can win.
Fiorina would have a harder time, but when people hear her speak, they generally like her. I have some issues with her performance and HP (I lost almost 6 figures $$ on them so I remember) but the majority of voters have no idea what happened then.
Did you see that Hillary's foundation just "restated" their tax returns for past years admitting to foreign donations? Maybe the IRS and the FBI together can beat her. (wishful thinking).

How cute. You can moonlight pretending to be tough, now.

You frequently have some good points. Why do you feel the need to belittle people? It really doesn't make you any bigger or get your point across any better. And that's a shame.

Oh, I can take the belittling. It is just that when I agree with you on opinion, I hate the fact that our point is made to look ridiculous by your obtuse name calling. You sound a little bit like a Florida Cracker junior wannabe.
This site was founded to allow the kind of belligerency that you express, so you are perfectly safe in continuing. But I am also safe in telling you that you weaken your point when you make yourself sound ignorant and devoid of real supporting arguments and have to resort to bullying.

Well said. I start to skip over the posts of people who toss out insults. Also, there's a rumor that 7 is indeed Florida Cracker. :)

As for those who think I am a ghost, many of the rest of you are babes in the wood at speaking plainly and consequences and sensitivities be damned.
On the topic at hand, those special snowflakes who think a religious test is unconstitutional, but only when applied to non-Christians, and perfectly Ok for Christians to be denied rights based on their religious conviction, you are deluded.

Ummm... That's a painting, not a photograph. It is an artist's rendering, not historical fact. That moment in time may, or may not have ever happened.
While it's true that 200+ years ago religion seems to have played a bigger role in everyday life for people, the truth is today the consequences of world leaders actions is far more dire than it was back then. Back then, if a king or president decided to go to war based on prayer, the worst that could happen is that leader could lose his position, or his government, or his country, but today a bad decision to go to war could cost us all of humanity.
The cold war has been over so long, that people seem to think extinction by nuclear war is a thing of the past. It is still a very real and present danger. It is actually pretty scary how limited an exchange has to be to end our time on this planet.

I wouldn't know as I'm clearly not the most powerful person in the universe, but I can imagine it must require a lot of introspection and personal responsibility, or at least one would hope.

And that's the point. The people who think that prayer provides some magic link to God's decision tree and insight into His mind either doesn't understand prayer, or doesn't engage in it often enough.
-
I feel sorry for people who believe they are the highest power in the Universe.
I think that is a very rare person, indeed. Bordering on megalomaniacal.
Speaking for myself, I find it easy to think of beings and entities more powerful than myself. Certainly stronger, faster, larger, more intelligent - you name it.
It's just the God one that escapes me.
-
The people who think that prayer provides some magic link to God's decision tree and insight into His mind either doesn't understand prayer, or doesn't engage in it often enough.
From my continuing contact with believers, I find that prayers are often directed towards a specific end - a cured cancer, a safe trip, whatever.
Non-intercessory prayer is certainly a thing, just communing with God, seeking to know his will, whatever. I get that. But most prayers I hear are not of that ilk.
-
Prayer is useful psychological exercise, used by many with no real belief it's being heard, and also by many who do believe it is heard. To get back on the thread topic, I do pray that someone with more integrity, competence and better judgement, and love of country above self, will emerge as a clear trouncer for Hillary.
-

Personal prayer is great if that's what you need. Talking to yourself to mull things over and think things through is a time honored tradition and is very useful. My problem is with people that make religion and scripture the focal point of their life and hold it higher than all else. In ordinary life, these folks are easy enough to ignore, or avoid, but when they start running for public office and positions of power, I get very concerned. History has shown that politics, power and government don't mesh well with religion for the good of the people. I want a secular government that keeps their noses out of people's religions, or lack of religion.

Me too. So far it looks like the set up for a Hillary win.

The trouble with your position is that all belief systems can be called religions. Including liberalism. You just have to "believe," and ignore the naked emperor.
-

An aileron can be called a religion.
That does not make it so.
To apply the word "religion" to atheism, humanism, liberalism, conservatism, MMGW, or whatever, is to render the term virtually meaningless.
Most adults know what it really means.
-
What, then, would you call a position taken or belief held about something, based on one's own desire for that something to be true, and supported by one's refusal to discuss the matter in objective terms and, most importantly, to deny objective truths when they are pointed out, and finally, to leave the room entirely?
(Besides the obvious "Church of the Anti-Spin Zone.") ;D
-

I think you're stretching here. I think most people accept the traditional meaning of the word religion to mean faith and adherence to an organized belief system based in super natural powers. They don't mean politics and policy. However the word religion can be used as an adverb such as "He religiously washes his hands." Maybe that is the confusion?

You're describing a personality flaw, not religion.

I don't know, but . . . Here is the first definition of religion returned by Google. I think #2 can apply in many cases:
re·li·gion
rəˈlijən/
noun
noun: religion
the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.
"ideas about the relationship between science and religion"
synonyms: faith, belief, worship, creed; More
sect, church, cult, denomination
"the freedom to practice their own religion"
a particular system of faith and worship.
plural noun: religions
"the world's great religions"
a pursuit or interest to which someone ascribes supreme importance. <------------
"consumerism is the new religion"

Stipulated it is used that way - and dictionaries have to reflect that.
But your insistence that we use dictionary definitions is really just another religion, if you ask me! 8)

I don't believe that I was insisting we use dictionary definitions. In fact, I started my post with "I don't know, but ..."
It is just another way of looking at the semantics that you seemed to have rejected for some reason.
-
Could a Satanist, Scientologist, or a person with an admitted imaginary friend, be elected president? I am struck by that hypocrisy. Most theists would scoff at those but not theirs, even though the existence of the central figure of each one has exactly equal objective proof.

Seriously - that's how silly the whole thing gets.
Had to remind me of this, from the greatest movie of all time:

The Satanist is already Judeo-Christian so they have that going for them, but people don't like them because they're dicks and they don't trust them, so they won't win. We let a Mormon have a go at it, so why not Scientologist? The results will be the same. Can't trust them either. I think the imaginary friend would be OK too, but we would just need to know more about this friend...
These days you just have to say your Christian and you're good to go. Once behind closed Oval Office doors, you can bend your knee and consult with whatever. It is all on tape however...
