I’m unfamiliar with betting, except when my husband and I bet on some little thing and he says, “If I win, you have to give me sex. If you win, I have to give you sex.”
Anyway I’m not sure I understand over and under. For the US Senate, what’s the 54/44, Rep/Dem? And the over would be like 55/43 and under 53/45? You really think the GOP will pick up four seats? I was prepared to be thrilled with two but I’m not making my official bet yet. Need to research a bit more.

One one my predictions is that something will happen in Maricopa County. The Democrats are terrified of Kari Lake. She’s a powerhouse and if she wins AZ she will be prime presidential material in 2028 and beyond. The MAGA GOP is poised to take control for a decade or more. The fascist left is desperate to stop them and Kari Lake could be the most important spearhead after Trump, who is aging out and can serve no more than one more term.

I’m super worried about some huge thing they’ll do to disrupt life as we know it. And I’ll be super helpless.
I fell Friday night while changing a light bulb and broke my left wrist, both ulna and radius (surgery planned for next Wednesday) and fractured my left ankle. It is in a boot.
At ER the ortho guy on call put my broken wrist into a heavy cast-like splint to await surgery next week but it hurts like HECK all the damn time and I’m losing my grip on sanity. Hydrocodone doesn’t touch the pain. Waiting with broken bones and in terrible pain seems medieval. I’m going to call the ortho place answering service today and ask for help without quite claiming to be suicidal.

Oh wow! You need to call them and tell them the pain meds are not working. They always start you on the lowest dose. Protocol is to TITRATE UP UNTIL EFFECTIVE. But the doctors will not do that until you tell them you’re still in too much pain. They should move you to oxycodone, 5 mg then if that still doesn’t work go to 10.
Of course that stuff constipates the hell out of you. I’ve already bought Miralax and Colace in anticipation of the pain med problem after my surgery. Looking forward to potty fun with a big incision in my butt and being forbidden to bend my hip.
You’re in just as bad a boat with a broken arm and foot! And didn’t have advance warning to prepare. :(
But the most important thing is, have you gotten voting out of the way? Can we both be high on meds as the returns come in next week? I might still be in the hospital that day, the hospital told me they are keeping me overnight, but the surgeon’s office said I’d go home the same day so I don’t know what the hell is going on.

Wow! You're right. That's medieval! I've never heard of a broken bone waiting days to be set. Or at least reduced. I'm so sorry you're going through that. Rush is right... advocate for more meds.

They start you on ineffective meds/doses knowing goddamn well they won’t work, but many patients won’t be a squeaky wheel and ask for more, and that cuts back on the total amounts they prescribe. They know well that she needs at least oxycodone if not a fentanyl patch but those meds are tightly monitored by the feds and doctors are punished for “prescribing too many”. So they cut corners everywhere they can and get away with it when docile and intimidated patients don’t insist on more. They intimidate you by making you sign legal disclaimers and take pee tests and make you feel like a drug addict.
I ranted about this in medical matters when my mother broke her tailbone. The stigma around opioids is having a devastating effect on getting adequate pain management when you legitimately need it. It’s one of the things Trump was just as wrong about as the Dems. They need to shut the fuck up about drugs. It’s the fact that they’re so tightly controlled by the feds that is the cause of illegal fentanyl imports and drug overdose deaths. The majority of drug deaths occur after a period of forced sobriety such as jail or rehab, and illegal drugs that have no quality or dose control.
The drug war is also the cause of the ever escalating rise of new and horrifically worse drugs such as Krokodil. Methadone deaths skyrocketed when the feds cracked down on OxyContin. (Methadone is way more deadly at inappropriate doses.) Now we have a fentanyl problem because feds cracked down on heroin. Cracked down on cocaine and they created a methamphetamine problem. In every case the replacement drug is WORSE. The Taliban (another example of moral authoritarianism) just banned poppy harvesting in Afghanistan which will cause such a shortage that heroin will be laced with even more deadly fillers and fentanyl will become even more popular. Not to mention causing all the poppy farmers in Afghanistan and their children to starve.

All the big gun pain meds are in the same family and you build tolerance, and I’ll need these meds after the surgery, so don’t want to overdo now. Says this woman is the best surgeon for hands and wrists, and it’s not unusual to wait up to two weeks for surgery, although the waiting is not a pain free experience.
Reading Rush’s last post, I just want to call him back and say “Fuck all, gimme the hard stuff!!!” Even medicine is political now, but that’s not news.

If you have so much pain that you cannot sleep, then you absolutely need pain medication.
Your body cannot heal if you are not sleeping or resting.
Yes, you'll have the challenge of coming off the narcotics, but better that than not healing at all.

Yes they tell you that, so they don’t have to give you even bigger doses after surgery. Tolerance just means they’ll have to up the dose for it to be effective. It is really no big deal and used to be standard practice.
You aren’t “overdoing it” by taking the amount needed to kill the pain. By saying “you’ll need those meds after surgery” begs the question: Are you rationing how much I get after surgery? Or if I build a tolerance will you TITRATE TO EFFECTIVENESS, which is an actual medical concept they all damn well know.
Yes you need pain relief after surgery. You also need it now. It is easy to get both. The doctor is giving you a bullshit line to get patients to not use much so that they can minimize how much they prescribe now and after surgery to keep the fucking feds happy.
Having said all that, it is true that the more tolerance you have and the bigger doses you’re on means more withdrawal when you finally don’t need them, and that is extremely not fun. Then there’s the horrible constipation which is a side effect that never goes away as long as you take them, and they kill your libido but I’m guessing you’re not much in the mood for sex anyway right now.
If you can soldier on and get by on minimal amounts, you’re better off in the long run, and the doctor would be more honest if they’d put it that way instead of implying you have to “save” the drugs for after surgery which is total horse shit. But Bob is exactly right, if you are not sleeping, that needs to be fixed.
If it were me I’d take extra Tylenol up to the maximum daily dose around the clock AFTER CALCULATING FOR HOW MUCH ACETAMINOPHEN IS IN THE PAIN MED. Normally 325 per tablet so do the math. Extra strength Tylenol says 6 500 mg capsules in 24 hours but my doctor says I can take 8. If you have a healthy liver 8 will be fine. That’s 4000 mg per day. So work out the extra Tylenol (acetaminophen) you can take per day above the pain med and divide it into 3 or 4 doses spread throughout the day.
Oh, and take it on schedule whether or not you’re hurting. It works best to stay ahead of the pain.

I just got back from a bunch of tests and a “hip replacement training class” at the hospital. I’ve got a big list of instructions and homework. They have called in SIX prescriptions for me, two of which I have to start day after tomorrow, the rest after the surgery.
They told me I’ll be staying overnight which isn’t what the surgeon’s office said. But the hospital people were insistent. The next day they wake me up at 4 am, I will be seen by the surgeon at 5:00, get walked up and down the hall and attend a physical therapy class, then go home by 4 in the afternoon. I guess I’ll still have time to listen to the election returns.

I now predict Oz will win PA, and Walker will win GA, but still haven’t settled on my numbers.
NV is in play now. NH is actually in play too, Hassan and Bolduc are in a dead heat. It’s possible Masters may win AZ on the coattails of Kari Lake, but I have trust issues with AZ and their vote counting.
So right now I’m thinking GOP will pick up 3 or 4 senate seats. House anywhere between 20 and 45, most likely mid to high 30s. Governor pick up 2 to 4.
If we are betting I guess I’m supposed to narrow those down to one number, eh?

My U.S. House seat is probably going to the incumbent Democrat. The Republican nominee is just a freaking train wreck. The Senate seat is up in the air at this point, with another (IMO) RINO nominee. Our governor is a RINO and I can't stand him, but is so far he should win. I really think the GOP is its own worst enemy with some of the nominees they are running.

I voted early. Being the mid-term elections, the early voting location was pretty quiet. I briefly talked to one of the workers... he mentioned that in-person early voting was pretty light but there were a lot of mail-in ballots. That isn't an encouraging sign.
Of course, being maskachusetts, there isn't much need to cheat here. The zombies here will vote for anything with a (D).

I just got back from voting. Big turn out so far in my little township. Parking lot was full (granted it's only around 15-20 spots) and I had to wait for an open station to fill out my ballot. We are pretty solid Red here, so I'm hoping it continues. I voted straight Republican, even though I can't stand our Governor and one of our candidates for House is not impressive at all. We have a ballot measure that will change the state constitution to prevent local governments from allowing illegals and minors from voting. So I'm really hoping that will pass.

He really stepped it up the past few weeks. Vance did kill it in the debate. I think that may have been the turning point. And I also think between his opponents attack ads (seems the only thing they do is atrack the GOP over abortion, while blatantly ignoring the economy, jobs, and public safety) and getting tired of another democrat in Congress only voting what his party tells him to, the voters are sick of the bullshit Dems have been forcing down our throats the past couple of years.

Voted this morning. Eleven minutes from getting out of the car until getting back in. Wore my "Stand Up for Betsy Ross" shirt. Lady handing out the I Voted stickers said she loved my shirt. Left the State Senator and County District votes blank. State Senator is an ass and the County guy never answered an email I sent him. Voted for some Libertarians on the ballot.

I voted this morning and the poll worker who has worked in the polls for 30 years said that so far it was the highest turnout for a non presidential election he has ever seen. On the radio they are saying that throughout New Hampshire the turnout is 'very high', to use their words. We have 2 state Reps one of which will probably go back and the other is a tossup. One Senator who is a first term senator she has only done one debate with her opponent and did not come out of that very well. The opinion I had while watching it was that she did not want to be there at all. I REALLY hope we lose her!! Gen Bolduc is running against her and so far that the polls say that race is a tossup. Time will tell.
