AP is reporting that the TSA is increasing the maximum fine for attempting to illegally carry a firearm.  Raising it from $13,910 to $14950.

phew.  it's so good to know the TSA is on the job...

After adjusting for inflation it appears they've reduced the fine a bit.

I have, over the years lost many knives to TSA.  So many, that I started carrying a box cutter like knife that I can throw away and it only costs me $8.

Once time in DC, I had my tool kit with me and put it in my checked bag.  I missed a screwdriver in my backpack.  I was very embarrassed. I appologized.  The TSA agent took it over to a table that had a line on it.

He measured the screwdriver and handed it back to me.  He said it was short enough for me to keep in my carryon.

It was an 8 in Craftsman screwdriver and it was short enough!

SMDH (but I did not lose my screwdriver, so I was happy about it).

Yet TSA tossed the small sealed bottle of milk that came with my kids happy meal that I bought at the airport before going through.

Almost all foodstuffs are prohibited.  Especially on international flights.  I thought my wife was going to be arrested because she was served a banana on an inbound flight from Europe.  She loves bananas but she wasn't hungry at the time so she put it in her purse.  They found it and we spent three hours waiting to be interviewed about the banana.  I felt like I was on the Group W bench.  Finally, they took the banana away and let us go.

Did they take your wallet and belt while you were waiting on the bench?

Sometime between 2002-2005 I was flying out of Charlotte to SFO for work and happened to have a 16-round magazine loaded with 9mm for my Sig 226 in my computer bag. The handgun was at home, but the mag slipped underneath the computer case section of my briefcase.  I never saw it on my normal cleanup of my briefcase before flying.

When TSA called over the LEOs I started to turn white.  They asked where the weapon was, and I said at home. They unloaded the mag, and actually said I could take the mag if I checked my bag. I was pushing my flight time so I said the LEO can have it. So during the 10-round limit period, a cop got a nice 16-round mag.

The TSA HS dropout was having a conniption, but the LEOs were super cool. They got me on my way in about 10 minutes.

I thought I would get “special” TSA treatment every time I flew thereafter, but literally nothing happened. I got a “don’t do it again” letter from TSA a month later, but that’s it.
