Title: Halloween rant
Post by: Mr Pou on November 02, 2015, 06:13:50 AM
What's with parents riding in their cars following their little kiddies around the neighborhoods? Our area was clogged with slow blinking (4-ways) cars everywhere. When I was a kid, Dad stashed a few beers in a bag and joined all the other dads walking their kids around. The kids had fun, and the dads enjoyed a few cold ones, a nice BS session, and a nice walk. When my daughter was that age, I had no problems walking wherever she wanted to go.

Parents these days....and most of them looked like they could stand a good walk or two.

Helicopter parents.  Our parents took us out when we were really youung then by the age of seven or so we went BY OURSELVES.  No needs for meddling parents trying to do everything for their kids instead of letting them figure it out on their own.  We are raising a nation of wusses.

I noticed it too.  So many cars everywhere that I had to look very carefully driving from my home.

Same here. Obviously our parents didn't care if we lived or died.  ;).

Today anyone letting a kid go out on their own at age seven could be called before the government under threat of loss of child to the state. How dare they think that they raised a responsible kid without governmental oversight!

Yeah, my parents were fine with it because we always went in groups of kids.  We would have been embarrassed to have our parents go with us at that age.

In my neighborhood the parents walked with the kids, but the only ones drinking beer were super dad (with his super gut) and yours truly.  And it was fun.
