hmmmmm, doesn't sound like the act of a friendly country.
Will Obama apologize?
-
Add in Iran shooting a missile with 1,500 yards of a US aircraft carrier a week or two ago, and you'll see a belligerent state that has zero fear that the United States will do anything about it.
I wonder if Kerry used KY or Astroglide when he "negotiated" with the Iranians.
-
Clearly not a hostile act! >:(
-
I'm sure they crossed a red line, but this was a boat and that red line was painted on the water. Kinda hard to tell where it was for sure at the time.
-
Maintain optimism. Last time this kind of thing happened, Ted Koppel started counting the days, "Nightline" was born, and we got Ronnie in the White House.
Who's our Ronnie this time?
-
Peace in our time.

The story seems to be that the engines failed and the boats drifted into Iranian territory. Two engines failed at the same time? :-\

I had read somewhere this morning that they ran out of gas. ::)

I wonder if any of them are Pilots. ::)

Lots of tech there. Very embarrassing. Have we hit a new low?
-
Reports now that the sailors have been released which is a relief.
I suspect this was a Revolutionary Guards power play to show the 'moderate' regime in Tehran and the US that they are still a force to be reckoned with and to curry favor with the locals in a nice show-of-force.
Hopefully no sensitive tech on the patrol boats, but seems like our guys are routinely now failing to destroy the tech when in situations like this, most famously the P-3 Orion/China incident.

Same ol' story. Different day. Spy vs. spy. Tit for tat. Poke n' prod. It's like a broken record. I feel bad for the sailors. They are the pawns, but I guess in this case, they are being released quick.
-
yeah, the USN uses these tiny boats for spying...
::)

For whatever reason this entire episode reminds of the hostage rescue failure under Carter, where nothing worked right. Ugh. Embarrassing.
-

::)
Really? What do you think these boats were doing then? Trout fishing? Rescuing Haitian refugees? Intercepting drug smugglers?
These boats are designed to go fast in shallow water. They were near an island where the Iranians have a naval base. They were spying.

yeah, because the USN doesn't any other assets for spying... ya know, like intelligence gathering assets that don't involve putting people at risk.
::)
good grief.
-
And now John Kerry expressed "gratitude" to the Iranians for capturing our sailors and ship, and then deciding to release them.
Unfuckingbelievable.

On some talk show, Newt Gingrich compared Donald Trump to Andrew Jackson.
Having read a biography of Jackson recently, I found that interesting, though Lord knows there are as many differences as similarities- if not more!

Good grief indeed. I ask again, if they weren't spying what the hell were they doing? Why were they so far away unprotected where they could get captured? Has it occurred to you that perhaps not everything that the intelligence folks want to know can be learned from airplanes, or satellites? Maybe these guys were sent out as pawns to test the response time of the Iranians. You know, testing their defenses the old fashion way. The only way to know for sure is to try it for real.
Anyhow, I'm all ears as to your theory as to why there were some sailors in small boats intended for shallow water ops around the shores of an Iranian island unprotected by larger forces.

Please, do not equate Donald Trump with Ronald Reagan. That is a serious insult to a great president.

I saw that. Also Biden talking about it. ALL LIES. All of it, and you could tell just by their body language and expressions. These people can't even lie effectively. All incompetent boobs.

You must be young.
"Everyone" thought Reagan was a dottering old fool, or right-wing lunatic, or washed up "monkey" actor. Maybe all of the above.
He proved the naysayers wrong, obviously. Including the Iranians and Russians (late of Soviet Union.)

Not everyone thought that, He looked pretty good next to Carter.

Not that young I guess. I voted for Reagan twice. He's the first president I ever voted for. Regardless of what some may have thought of Reagan back in the day, there is no comparison between Trump and Reagan in my mind. Reagan loved his country and had governed before, Trump loves himself and knows nothing about working in government. Reagan gave great speeches that have gone down in history. Trump gives bar room rants. Reagan was a modest man. Trump is the furthest thing from modest there is.
Sorry. I don't believe Trump to be the savior of America. In fact I think he would be disastrous or at best disappointing. However I think it's moot. I also believe he's running just for the fun of it and to get his good buddy Hillary in the White House again. He's no real conservative, but he plays one on TV.

Trump is just about the best example of a RINO I've seen in a long time, and I include folks like Jeb! and Kasich as people who are downright conservative compared to Trump.
If you want one example: his view of eminent domain. I don't get how you can be a "conservative" and believe that the government has the power to take private property to give to a private developer.

I have to agree with this. I fear he's the political version of Lola:
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for lola

Good example of how unwilling we, as a nation, have become to truly look at both sides of an issue. I do worry about flaccid leadership, but also about over-hawkishness. Best point in the article, I think, is about the young Muslims and their willingness to go in new directions, away from the old, bearded ayatollahs and imams, and old ways of thinking divisively.
I think Cruz is smart enough to see all the nuances in this particular international problem, but plays to the base of hawk lovers.
How to get people to meet in the middle and truly analyze? Too much acting and taking sides based on feelings only.
