Title: Youth reject climate change measure
Post by: Username on June 22, 2021, 07:49:11 AM
Well how about that.  Youth are all for legislation to help stop climate change until they actually have to make sacrifices.

After Switzerland dropped its negotiations with the EU, the country has now rejected a climate-protection law in a referendum. Concretely, they rejected all three parts of the law in separate votes: on CO2, on pesticides, and on drinking water.

It is one thing for people to pretend they support the Green party, especially when it is cool to do so. It is quite another to make actual sacrifices as the Swiss were asked to do.

But what is particularly interesting about this referendum is that the strongest opposition came from young people. 60-70% of the 18-34 year old voted No in the three categories.

Yep.

Most of these MMCC supporters only want it if it doesn't affect them.  They still want their internal combustion engines, their home heating and air conditioning and cheap energy.

And if no one caught this yet, the People's Republic of California is now asking their comrades not to be fully charging their electric cars due to more electrical grid problems.

Yup, everyone wants green, but for the other guy.

There is a lot of green chatter amongst the younger people on our neighborhood google group, yet it's me, the old guy, using a push reel mower while the young guys all use gas mowers. It's me driving reasonable sized fuel efficient cars while the young guys drive hulking SUV's, trucks, and minivans (what a load of crap, there's been nothing mini about these things in a very long time). It's me getting in the car and going, it's the young couples who hit the remote start and let their big gas suckers idle for 10-20 minutes because god forbid little spoiled Johnny has to get into a cold or hot car.

Yup, the younger folks area ALL about green, as long as it's not they THEMSELVES who have to be green.

You guys are giving them too much credit. I don’t think they have any clue that it’s coal fired furnaces and gas turbines that fuel their cell phone charges, and it’s oil that supports all their food from growing it on the farms to transporting it and packaging it to getting it on their grocery store shelves or having their organic vegan meal kits delivered to their door by FedEx.

I'm reminded of an episode of ALF (season 1, episode 3)

I'm trying to understand why he ate Lucky.  I mean, Alf has different instincts than we do.  On his planet, they eat cats the same way we eat cows.

Brian:  We don't eat cows.

Lynn:  Where do you think hamburgers come from?

Brian:  The supermarket.

Exactly right.  Food should not look like where it came from.  All meat comes from the market.  I don't want to think about the cow or pig or whatever.  Fish should be served so that it doesn't look like a fish.  NO HEADS!  Vegetables come from the market, not pulled out of the dirt.  Eggs are are nice and orderly, not out of a chicken's butt.  I respect anyone who has the job of turning animals into food.  I just don't want to think about it.  If I had to think about where food comes from I'd become a breatharian.

To bring it back to the thread, I suppose they think electricity comes out of the wall and maybe through some wires outside. Beyond that it's magic.  Like food.

They may think about food in ways other than its supermarket presence. But mostly in an anthropomorphic way.

That’s gonna backfire with cannibal types if they think that ad will turn people vegan. It’d be like porn.  ;D

I ride my 1987 Cannondale road racing bike to work everyday.  The young girls think it's cool but not for MMGW but that the 62 year old guy is in great shape compared to the 20 something guys.  Guess who they talk to in the break room and in the halls?

Marxists are huge dishonest hypocrites.

Tastes like fish!

(Yeah, I know that was a tasteless comment, but someone had to do it...)

I wish I still had my two Cannondales from that era, especially the R700, that thing ate hills like mad. Good climbing bike.

Mmmm, lobster and a fairly cute one.  With butter.

It reminds me - before I was a pilot, something happened that got me headed this way.  My father worked for Midway Airlines in retirement as a ramp agent.  One day, he flew to Maine, borrowed a car to pick up lobsters, and flew home.  It was lobster dinner that night.  I remember thinking "wow, airplanes are cool, I need to get into that..."
