Title: I’m a laptop threat!
Post by: Rush on January 10, 2024, 05:30:25 PM
Forgot to take my laptop out of my backpack going through TSA today.  Oh boy did that give those agents a thrill.  Gave em a chance to do a big rectal exam on the laptop and then go through my backpack with a fine tooth comb.

A fine performance of security theatre.  I used to get TSA pre check all the time.  Not any more.  They must have found out I support Orange Man.

I recall the days when you had to take your laptop out and turn it on for them. All I could think was, it wouldn't take much electronically to make it look real and still fit a bunch of C-4 in the case.  :o

And NOT something you'd mention to them as you go through the line.

Haven't flown commercial for many years.  Just no place we want to go to that's beyond driving distance or a couple hops in the 170.  But next year there's a conference in Germany and another in Hawaii.  Fortunately we have enough miles that we can upgrade to First Class.  My wife has a firm rule.  No overwater in anything but First.  I support that!

I’m about to institute that rule for all commercial flights including domestic.  We went first class this time and the difference is so worth the several hundred you pay for it.  The difference for our trip was $500 per person.

The main cabin prices have doubled since Biden.  I flew back east for three or four hundred back in Trump’s time and now tickets are over seven hundred.

It really matters what kind of plane you get.  It's best if the First Class cabin enters and turns left, while the great unwashed turn right.  It's horrible when the cattle class shuffle through First Class on the way to their seats.  All decked out in their best sweats and bashing the isle seats with their carryon luggage.

Check out this Shell video, Song of the Clouds.  Lots of heavy radial music.  Even the kids were in coats and ties to fly.  Real knives to cut real food.  I remember those good old days.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QG-4bjOF4OY

It was the great unwashed shuffling by but still worth it. We got a full meal and it was delicious, with metal utensils although just a flatware knife not a pointy steak knife.  The seats and legroom and arm room alone is worth it.  Everybody gets their own arm rest and your knees aren’t pressed against the seat in front of you.  And you can get something from your bag without sticking your head in the lap of the person next to you or cross your legs without kicking the leg of the person next to you.  Personal space means everything and greatly reduces stress and rage.

But we were in the last row so the bulkhead of the first not-first-class row was right behind us and I felt a bump when somebody did something but it was only once.  They didn’t close the curtain either and there was a kid in the seat opposite that one, not first class and the poor guy could see me eat my wonderful meal while he didn’t get one.  But he was good, didn’t make a fuss.

The flight attendants were very nice. Our first flight ran 30 mins late and we had a tight connection. The FA looked up our flight and gate and made sure we would make it which we did.  It was just more personal attention than you get in the back and it helps a bit.

That does it. We are signing up for TSA pre check.

It actually is a fairly good deal if you want to save time. I, on the other hand, want to waste of much of their time as it is possible to legally do.

Well this last time I probably came close to getting arrested. I had a Manila envelope in my backpack with my mothers death certificates inside and the TSA agent opened the envelope and started pulling them out. I went ballistic and yelled at her.

Pre Check doesn't guarantee anything.   They pull randoms from the pre check line and do full screenings.

Well hopefully that won’t happen and for the rest of the time the line is a lot shorter.
