China to take on Boeing, Airbus with homegrown C919 passenger jet

InTheSoup:
Not FAA Certified. Wonder if the FAA certification will even matter in its success?

Looks very much like the 737 -800 series. Beautiful jet. I mean this sincerely when I say I hope it was built to the highest standards. A little Capitalist competition is good for the aviation market!

Might even be built from Boeing plans  ;)

acrogimp:
There is no threat of the ARJ-21 or C919 unseating Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, Bombardier or even ATR.

When asked about the Chinese I reply, 'all the arrogance of the French, without the competence'.

They are investing massively in aerospace but simply lack experience in essentially all of the areas that are important to a commercial concern like an airline.

Can they learn what they need to learn?  Maybe, but so far they are leery of admitting they need help and even more unwilling to pay for it.

When I have more time I might share a little more from my experience over the past 3 years.

One thing I picked up from the video on CNN that I thought noteworthy is that the project was launched in 2008, which means that it only took them 7 years to build it with test flights starting in 2016.  I'm not sure if that's rapid development in the passenger jet world, but it's likely they will only get better.  And by them making a grab in the GA world, it makes sense that they would want to become a dominant player in the industry.  Soon they will be making military aircraft - you can bet your bottom dollar on that.
