Title: Authoritarianism not needed: proof from game theory
Post by: Jim Logajan on April 08, 2024, 08:31:25 PM
I'd read about game theory yielding the results presented in this video, but it presents a good summary of explaining why cooperation is in one's rational self-interest in the real world. It shows there is no need for an elite engaging in authoritarian dictate, on pain of incarceration or death, to insure everyone "cooperate" for some elite's goal. One only needs to make a good case for the goal and rely on the target audience's self-interest to accomplish that goal. No threats needed.

And then there is the dark forest hypothesis where we must assume all outside groups are hostile and it’s best to shoot first before trying to assess their intentions. This is best applicable to extra-terrestrial alien life.  These days there aren’t really any human groups we know nothing about.

It’s interesting that after the breakup of the Soviet Union Russia wanted to join NATO, but the alliance wouldn’t consider it.  This was Russia trying to be “nice” and cooperative in terms of game theory.  We did cooperate with space missions, but now there is nastiness between us.  Can you imagine the win-win we could have had if we combined resources and had a cooperative alliance with Russia?  We would all but eliminate the threats from China, NK and Iran.

Not possible now because “Russia = Trump = Bad” according to the idiots in charge.  So in game theory of course this will make Russia our enemy.

And there's the problem.  Humans are not rational.  Most are irrationally centered on their own self-interest to the exclusion and suppression and exploitation of everyone else.  Which is why socialism and communism, while on the surface are good ideas, always fail with an elite class dominating the productive class.
