At this point, I see no real reason for her not to resign.  They couldn't get a new Justice approved before November anyway, even if they tried, which they really shouldn't (try) after refusing to place a justice in an election year in 2016, being an election year and all.

But nothing will stop Trump from appointing a conservative in 2017.

I agree she should step down.  Congress could stop Trump for appointing someone until after the election. Republicans did it now Democrats turn.
If Trump does wins how does she think she can live 4 more years?

Oops.  How did that get there.

Obviously, I meant 2021.

It's her choice, I suppose she will just let god fire her instead.

Actually, I think the President could nominate someone, and probably get them approved.  I would feel sorry for that nominee, because whoever it is will be dragged through the mud.

Democrats can't do it.  They do not hold the Senate majority.  Elections have consequences as Obama liked to say.  The Republicans held the Senate under Obama then.  They got to drive the process.  They still do.  The Media will cry.  So what?  If the Democrats held it then it would have been different.  Democrats never play fair so f*ck them.

I think that it's in Trump's advantage if RGB did not resign just yet.  I do not believe that a suitable replacement could be found before November.  If she left office that would REALLY inspire democrats to come out and vote to fill her seat with someone at least as left as she is.  Right now she's a placeholder and despite her health issues is kind of a back seat issue.  She resigns and it's another whip driving the democrats to the polls.

They could get a new Justice approved and frankly, that would be more important than Trump getting reelected.  They have until Jan and they could do what they want after Nov.

What would stop the House from impeaching the new Justice?

It's technically possible, but I don't think it is probable.  For one thing, there would be enough Republicans that wouldn't be able to defend deferring the approval in 2015 (an election year), and would do the "fair" thing to stop it.  And I"m sure Schumer could wrangle enough enough procedural tricks to keep it from happening quickly.

Damn.  I can't get my years right.  It was 2016 when Rs said we shouldn't appoint a SCJ in an election year. (I think).
I think only a Democrat would be hypocritical enough to change that stance now.

I believe the person on deck is the Catholic woman who serves on the 7th Circuit.

I feel very bad for her presuming she accepts the nomination.

Public opinion would be against them.  Not all of it, but enough that they would pay dearly for trying it.  Then, they have slightly above a zero chance of getting 67 votes in the Senate to remove them from office, so same result that they got from Trump.

Most rational people can recognize a witch hunt when they see one.

Judge Sykes? Great lady. Her name has been floated around before for Supreme Court.
