Spin Zone / Where do they think money comes from?

"Pols appeal to Brooks Brothers"

"US Sen Ed Markey [and some others] called on Brooks Brothers Sunday to provide severance pay and health insurance to more than 400 workers in the wake of its bankruptcy filings."

If a company is bankrupt, where would the money come from for the severance pay and health insurance?

Spin Zone / what's the rate of infection?

How many people currently have the COVID-19 virus?

In Maskachusetts, the testing for COVID-19 (molecular) has been yielding positives less than 3% of the time since 12 June and less than 2% since 29 June.

This is targeted testing - people potentially with covid-19 symptoms, their close contacts, and healthcare workers, etc.

I would like to see random sampling of the rest of the population to get a handle on the number of people who are asymptomatic.  However, it doesn't seem that the "leaders" want that.  Kind of like few people want to count the number of people who have recovered.

But, given the testing that is happening (which is targeted), what is the likelihood that more than 3% general population is currently infected?  (at least in Maskachusetts).

Spin Zone / Were people forced to reopen businesses and go out?
« on: July 11, 2020, 01:41:35 PM »
All this talk about this person or that person is at fault for rising cases and secondary spikes.

Riddle me this:  Exactly who forced anyone to reopen businesses and facilities?  Exactly who is forcing anyone to leave the comfort of their own home?

If you don't feel safe, then stay home

If you don't feel safe, then wear a mask

If you don't feel safe, then practice proper hygiene.

If you don't feel safe, then stay away from other people

(I was somewhat amused this morning at the post office.  I had a mask, the service rep behind the counter (and a plexiglass shield) had a mask, but she told me to stay behind the yellow line, iow - at least six feet from her).

A few people (very few) are noting how the US COVID-19 death numbers have dropped.

But, today the CDC is report NEARLY THREE TIMES MORE DEATHS THAN THE PREVIOUS DAY....and more than the 3 previous days combined.  OMG

(as an exercise for the student, consider why that might be... no points for claiming a conspiracy or a leftist plot)

Spin Zone / If masks are so necessary...
« on: July 08, 2020, 05:23:27 AM »
So, people with lots of money and fame are claiming that wearing a mask is a no-brainer...

One conclusion is that the droplets we exhale are so laden with viruses, that we are an instant threat to everyone else.

So, why is the test for COVID-19 a deep deep deeeeeeep nasal swab?  Why not just collect what we exhale?

Spin Zone / Vote by mail
« on: July 07, 2020, 08:41:05 AM »
saw a reasonable point in the newspaper today:

Given that the IRS sent $1.2 billion in stimulus checks to dead people (which were cashed), why would anyone think the government can properly manage voting by mail?

Spin Zone / Let's talk about good news
« on: June 26, 2020, 10:26:27 AM »

Can we celebrate good news?

In Maskachusetts, the daily number of deaths with COVID-19 is down.  It's been trending downs for a couple of months.

The large number of covid-19 tests in Maskachusetts is showing a small percentage of positives (significantly less than 5%).

I've heard that at least one vaccine manufacturer is preparing to mass-produce vaccines (at the urging of the Trump Administration)  in anticipation of successful trails (I gather that the normal process is to not risk ramping up production capability until after FDA approval of the vaccine).  This particular company is aiming to have 300,000,000 doses by Jan 2021.

In the US, daily number of deaths with COVID-19 are trending down.

Researchers at Arizona State U. (iirc) have found a strain of COVID-19 that appears to have mutated from the original, and is missing a large number of proteins.  Having covid-19 mutate is probably a good thing.

Spin Zone / interstate travel - what's the point of quarantine?
« on: June 19, 2020, 09:57:08 AM »
Massachusetts "encourages" people coming to Massachusetts to quarantine for 14 days.

Maine requires people going to Maine to quarantine for 14 days.

What's the point?  COVID-19 is in Maine, COVID-19 is in Massachusetts.

Let's not diminish the significance of 19 June as the end of slavery in the US.

I know there are many who will roll their eyes at Juneteenth and many who will try to abuse the day.
