Lol!  I tried to find him but I didn’t see a paper-folding convention at the world’s largest AIRSHOW!

I stopped by the tent (near SW corner of event hangar D) sometime on Wednesday but no classes were being given at that time and hardly anyone about. I checked the origami sign-up sheet and found several people had signed up for the afternoon class. Unfortunately the class was at the same time as another forum I had planned to attend so didn't get a chance to meet the infamous Michael.

No one is mentioning the four souls that died in accidents.  Two when a T-6 spun into Lake Winnebego and two when a Rotorway copter and a gyro copter had a mid air.

Didn't know. Wow. That's terrible!

No way on this earth would I fly into all that chaos.

That's why I'd fly into Appleton when going to OSH. Mikey said it was because I "didn't have the stones" to fly into KOSH. It was really convenience due to arrival and departure and they have a free shuttle. Plus the chaos as you noted.

Neither of these were flying into or out of AirVenture. The T-6 went up for a morning flight, as do dozens of warbirds during the week. (Mustangs have the “Breakfast Club” and fire up their Merlins at 0600 every day and fly to a nearby airport for breakfast.)

My buddy who has owned a Harvard said he was talking to the young couple about their basket case T-6. I guess the wife was one of the two who died in it. Not sure who the other pax was.

As for the helicopter and gyrocopter, I have no idea, but those damn things are flying all day every day.

I was speaking to the air show in general.  Way too many amateurs and too little airspace.

The NOTAM is well thought out. However, you’re right. I picked my day and times to fly a PT-26 on the Fisk Approach twice and it was easy as pie. Otherwise, too many 20/hour/year people trying to make spot landings. The Warbird arrival in my Navion was way easier than Fisk.

System is really good.  There hasn't been a midair on the approach to the show that I know of (I suspect the two rotorcraft were part of the show. They have rotorcraft do a pattern around the ultralight strip in the afternoon, after the ultralights themselves fly).  Says me if a ham-fisted pilot like yours truly can do it 20 times it can't be that bad.

I stopped by a couple of times at the craft tent, watched and listened.   I should have brought one of your origami books for an autograph.

We walked past one day, Steingar was wearing tie dye, but that's probably not helping to narrow down the day. I asked my kid if he wanted to go in, but he passed. You guys in that tent have no competiton to the kids redbird simulator in Warbirds.

The "Activity Center" was really quiet this year.  We've been killed by the pandemic, a lot of the older teachers didn't come back.  I think we'll do better next year, a lot of teachers signed up.  I ever recruited a basket weaver, something a number of attendees were asking about.

I had lots of students early in the week, no so many later.  Seems to ebb and flow same as the airshow.  A LOT of folks said they had no idea we were there and would definitely be back.  And yes, this year I wore my tie-dyed polo shirts.

Just something I do to give back to the organization.  They did give me an airplane once.

Pandemic? That's a Hell of a stretch.  More like extreme OLD AGE. I'm 64 and I'm "the Kid" at the airport.    ::)

Is your audience kids or everyone? If it's kids, see about getting EAA to move it to kidventure. You're almost in purgatory in that section.

I mostly teach kids, it is Origami.  Some of the other craft teachers have kids, a lot have adults. I wouldn't want it at kid venture, we're for the folks not into or tired of airplanes.

One day I had a young family of four sit down at my table.  I had been planning a slew of models, but I decided to try a bracelet I'd been thinking about.  I had mom and the kids make the pieces for the bracelet, they're really easy.  I then had the dad assemble the pieces into the bracelet, which is really difficult.  It worked out really well, the kids got bracelets and everyone had a really good time.

A lot of the teachers in the tent have been doing it for a couple decades, and after than pandemic they decided enough was enough.  Moreover, this is the first year of me and my colleague Angie being in charge, and we really didn't get everything we needed from our predecessor.  So we've got a changing of the guard in both management and teachers in our little domain.  I am determined to bring it back and make it fun to crafts and activity again.

That makes sense, but I still think that your tent is in a crappy spot. Who wants to be near the "Made for TV" vendors?

Up to the EAA where we are.  Used to be better, is what it is.
