I did not realize we had that many loonies in Minnesota

Expand the definition of an “assault weapon” to include many semiautomatic pistols, rifles or shotguns and makes possessing them a felony, with the exception of some that were legally registered before February 2018.
Now an assault weapon is any semi automatic.

Quote
Those owning a grandfathered assault weapon must undergo a background check, renew their registration annually,
Well everyone BUT criminals that are not going to admit owning any.

Quote
and use them only on their property or at a shooting range
Good thing MN has a lot of hunters that stop this quick.

Maybe time to move

Good news; Pretty much all of the regulation being signed has been tested at the SCOTUS, and I think most if not all have failed the test. Bad news is that it has to go all the way to the SCOTUS as a test case.

Part of me think they should bring it up for vote to see how many Dems have to bail on it to hope in getting re-elected. Then the fear that Dems are that dumb and it would pass kicks in.

Not necessarily.  If circuit and appeals courts are informed of the SC guidance on these topics already, then it will never make it to the SC.  The circuit court says no, the appeals court upholds and the SC refuses cert.  That effectively ends the law when it is ruled on by the circuit court.

Now that assumes judges following the law and not injecting their own opinions into the matter, so the ideal of how it should happen gets sidelined by corrupt people along the way.

Base on the rulings from circuit and appeals courts lately I not sure they would even care about a previous SC ruling.

Agreed. And my neighbor to the Northwest is a nut-job State. I spend enough time in Minneapolis and continue to shake my head.

Ever hear of the 9th circus court? They violate the SCOTUS about 70% of their rulings. So, the process is: Violate one of the new gun control laws. Get arrested, indicted, tried, found guilty, in muni/county court. Appeal to state, conviction upheld. Appeal on new grounds to fed district, conviction upheld. Appeal to fed circuit court, conviction upheld. Appeal to SCOTUS - conviction overturned, law negated(but still maybe on the register in the state). It only usually takes 3-8 years.

Of course.  That's why my statement assumes judges who follow the law and I recognize that isn't always reality.

The 9th Circuit doesn't cover Minnesota as far as I know.

They don't; it's the 8th Circuit.

Minnesota can pass this law but it'll get struck down pretty quick. It's just an attempt to say they did "something". There's a lot of knee-jerk reactions right now.

The 8th circuits reversal and vacate rate is 68% over the past 10 years. Not quite as high as the 9th, but still plenty bad.
