Title: Masks Work or Make You Stupid???
Post by: Number7 on March 12, 2024, 06:33:06 PM
Went to the Motor Vehicle Administration today and waited a very short time before being called to the counter where a mask-wearing, nearly non-English speaking, hispanic woman tried her best to make a two-minute task take forty-five minutes.

When she had to read the written report provided by the state from my optometrist, she spent at least twenty minutes staring at it, trying to decipher what all the English words meant. I'm sure her mask was a great help, especially since she was five feet away, and behind a plexiglass shield.

Eventually, a supervisor wandered over, took the letter out of her hand, made a few keystrokes on the keyboard, and handed me the renewal.

When I get the automatic email survey I intend to write very plainly.

Even their equal-opportunity hires should be able to understand it.

If you’re not a surgeon currently in the OR, or an immunocompromised cancer patient, you have no business wearing a mask.  Well okay maybe if you’re mowing the grass and have allergies.

Yet, I see idiot WOMEN wearing them all the time. Allows me to tell who the crazy ones are.

That's one indicator that helps narrow the field, but there are still a lot of crazy women out there that don't wear masks.

I have seasonal allergies and I don't even wear a mask mowing the lawn. The beer cancels the allergies out and is more effective than the mask.

Maybe I should try that treatment. But then we have mudbug volcanoes all over the yard and they kick up dust when I go over them and it weirds me out to be breathing all that in.  And the mask gives me a little face protection from the clouds of mosquitoes. Somehow they still manage to get underneath my goggles. And they’ll bite my ankles right through my socks, and get my hands, and the back of my neck.  I’m going to have to start wearing gloves and a scarf. Maybe a whole hazmat suit.

It is perfect, if you like:
 Burning heat and freezing cold.
And bugs the size of birds,
And rattlesnakes.

But at least they don't try to tell you how to keep warm or cool or what to drive or where to live or almost anything else you want to do.

Texas doesn't allow car manufacturers to sell directly to consumers. All such sales have to be done through dealerships.

Do you mean I can't buy a Tesla in Texas?

edit: I looked it up and that's what it means.  Wow.
But I wasn't wrong.  I said Texas wont' tell you what to drive.  I didn't say Texas doesn't have any stupid laws. This is one of them.

I was vaguely familiar with that law but when you posted about it, I immediately thought, 'What a transparently corrupt law designed to pander to the car dealer pac.'

A federal judge and some corrupt Michigan congresskritters did something similar to  Mr. Tucker automobiles.

What a shame.

A lot of states have similar laws forcing sales through dealers, so I didn't mean to pick on Texas other than to point out it has its share of bad laws. I seem to recall GM somehow got its dealers to agree to a "no price haggling with customers" policy to make sales of its Saturn vehicles easier on customers. But they still had to be sold through dealers.
