« on: March 24, 2024, 04:49:48 PM »In 2019 the Census Bureau said ~4.5 million had doctorates[1]. Out of ~300 million that is about 1.5%. That gets in the ballpark. A doctorate in philosophy or other liberal arts degrees is not likely to yield an individual income of $150k. Only ~8% of individuals earn $150k or more[2]. So between that and an appropriately chosen definition for "densely populated area" can yield a number close enough to ~1% for him to be able to say "elite 1%".

ok, so 4.5 million have doctorates. But a masters degree is also a postgraduate degree.
