i believe the Government is going after Boeing in an attempt to put them out of business and open the doors for U.S. based operators to buy Chinese aircraft.

Only problem is Chinese built aircraft cannot be certified in the US. As with Russia, the Chinese have never bothered with coming into ICAO compliance and FAA compliance with production standards.

Either the Chinese would have to totally retool, and also start maintaining quality control standards (traceability of materials, actual real documentation of materials and processes) plus conform to ICAO, EASA and FAA certifications, or the US would have to drop all of their requirements placed on parts, materials and manufacturing process from here and the rest of the world.
It's actually a monumental task and not a simple "just bring the aircraft here and we'll start flying them.

The Chinese cannot do that. They are congenitally incapable of it. They'd fake the paperwork, cut corners, and supply crap.

I suppose, but from what I know how this stuff works, it would start a chain reaction with other countries. The other downside is the other countries that would ban the Chinese aircraft from entry, even if it had a US registration.
But hey, what do I know.
