I'm sure, because the President has assured us that there will be no boots on the ground, that these troops were all issued flip-flops before deploying.

the flip-flop line would have been better if the do-nothing senator from taxachusetts had been President

My dog is in the middle of diabetic alert dog training and is doing exceptionally well.  Scheduled to graduate the last Saturday in June!  Will be good to have my Golden Retriever with me at all times.

For the love of God, could we talk about something, anything, besides the Donald vs the doormat?

I'd almost welcome package discussions...  not really, but sheeesh.
I feel your pain Bob, but am not holding my breath.

On the positive side, I'm planning on attending All Red Star XV in Porterville CA next Thurs-Sun - it's a massive formation training event - as many as 40-60 aircraft including a half-dozen jets (L-39's, AlphaJet's and Siai-Marchetti S-211's).

Going to be a great time where I won't be thinking about anything but flying, fun and fellowship.

I know this is Pilot Spin and all, but no matter what anyone says, if you don't, yannow, actually vote for a candidate, you haven't voted for that candidate. The contention that abstaining or voting third party is a vote for the eventual winner is garbage. This is inarguable, and can be shown to be logically true.

But beyond that, many of us consider our one vote more than just a simple tool.  It is an affirmation of our republic and a deep honor. Using the vote is meaningful. And so, too, can not using it be meaningful.

Spin Zone / Re: What Went Wrong for the Cruz Campaign
« on: May 04, 2016, 08:59:44 AM »
I think what went wrong for Cruz was the media.  They wanted a Trump / Hillary matchup because it was the one which is most suited to having Hillary as president.  So the media has been very nice and very accommodating to Donald up to now.  They're not going to pivot immediately, but consider that yesterday he was the darling bad boy trying to get the nomination and now he has pretty much secured it and become their enemy.  The nice phase is over.

This is the "George Will Party" and their prerogative in a nutshell.

I like the wisdom of our founders, especially since it infuriates liberals so much,

Cruz was ineligible to be President by virtue of his country of birth.

His dad being on the grassy knoll on that day in Dallas certainly didn't help, either!

You'll have to explain the connection between municipal bonds and the federal tax rate.  I have a better than average knowledge of economics and the financial system but I'm drawing a blank on why these two would be connected.

Imagine a 50% fed tax rate.

$100,000 invested in a 3% municipal bond would yield $3,000/yr in tax free dividends.
$100,000 invested in a 6% corporate bond would pay $6,000/yr in taxable dividends. After taxes you'd be left with exactly the same $3,000.

Adjusting the federal rate up or down would change the effective yield of the corporate bond, making the tax free either more or less desirable.

Right?

Thanks for pushing me in the right direction.

Don't let Florida Cracker -- I mean Number7 -- push you out.  I like your input here.

I got home from the office really late last night and was flipping channels just unwinding, and I saw Hunt for Red October.  I stayed up until after midnight just to get to your signature line.  😄

..on the recent birth of your new child.

I've had two.  Oh, my departed wife had a part in that.  I now have 4 grandchildren.

Raising a family has to be one of the most difficult, and rewarding things anyone can do.  Lots of people will try to give advice, but there really isn't an owner's manual or operating instructions to guide you.  You seem to have a good head on your shoulders, so you will do ok.  Since this isn't your first, you probably have figured out that you can cover up a lot of mistakes with love and understanding. So, go forth and enjoy.  It is amazing seeing them learn to crawl, learn to stand up and take their first steps, learn to walk...

Next thing you know they will be wanting the car keys.

Can you tell us what specific laws codify discrimination today, and what laws are being mal-enforced?
I reread my post and I didn't get the switcheroo of timeline you did. Perhaps it's the sleep deprivation talking.

Congratulate me: I became a dad again, 6 days ago.

To help Hillary get elected as a favor to Bill?

Probably a bit too "conspiracy theory" to be true, but darn it if most of his actions don't make perfect sense when viewed in that light.

Spin Zone / Why Did Trump Run as a Republican?
« on: April 13, 2016, 09:45:26 AM »
This is a serious question. Why did someone who has expressed extreme hate for the GOP and the RNC, and who hasn't read the rules and refuses to acknowledge the rules, and wants the rules changed such that a plurality of delegates should automatically get the nomination, want to be this party's nominee?

Why does Trump want the GOP nomination, when he appears to be at odds with much of its platform, including the support for the Fifth Amendment and the platforms rejection of Kelo v. New London (pg. 13 of the Republican Platform 2012)?

Why didn't he just start his own party?  He could certainly afforded to do so. He could have set up a primary system where every  state has a Trump Party primary vote (no caucuses or conventions), and the plurality vote getter gets the nomination. It would be an excellent party, a beautify party, and the Trump Party voters would be fabulous people.

I despise the Republican establishment (the elected career politicians), but not the party of Lincoln.  That's why I engaged in significant debate over on POA that the Tea Party wanted to change the GOP from the inside, and not start a new party. However, I don't think Trump even knows the GOP was the party of Lincoln, or that it was started in 1854 in nearby Ripon, Wisconsin.

So why did Trump run as a Republican?

Would you insist on getting checked out as PIC in a VC-25?
Absolutely. And not SIC either. Left seat or nothing.

In fact, I'd get type ratings in a B-52, B-1, B-2, F-15, and the SR-71.

Oh yea, the SR-71 is coming out of mothballs and we're going to be doing speed runs over the US and Russian airspace.
