This seems well put together, with no spin for a change.

When I went to vote in the NC primary on March 15, the girl in front of me wanted to vote for Trump. She was upset because she was a registered democrat and received the democrat ballot, not the republican one. To make things even more interesting, she was a young, pregnant Hispanic woman.

Can someone check and see if hell froze over? I thought it was impossible!

When this year is over, we will have a different GOP.  However, I am nearly certain we will have a Clinton presidency.  I have wanted to see a woman president, but she would not have been my choice to break that ceiling.  I am probably voting Libertarian again.

Having a black president did nothing for the black people, if you look at wages, unemployment, incarceration... Nothing has improved. Not sure what having a female president will do for women.

Hmmmm.....  Guess there is lots of bribery going on.

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/washingtons-highest-lowest-speaking-fees/story?id=24551590

Seems it is pretty non-partisan as well.

So if some group wants a speaker, and said group finds one to their liking and reach a mutually agreeable fee for said speech - that is bribery?

Gary

For retired politicians, or non-politicians I don't really see a huge problem with it. But for an active politician, yes I think the huge speaking fees are slimy.

I doubt strongly that it rises to the level of criminality.  Indeed, after numerous Congressional hearings and a lengthy FBI investigation no charges have been brought against her or anyone else.

The investigation is still ongoing. Just this week, the FBI began interviewing one of her IT staffers that maintained the server. They had to strike an immunity deal with him, to keep him from pleading the 5th I assume...

So far I've been called a parasite on this board because of my chosen profession (which in an ironic twist I chose for its altruistic elements).  i can only imagine the invective when i say that I very, very grudgingly support her for POTUS.

The supposed "felonies" that Conservatives have been crowing about remind me of the Obama birther nonsense.  The situation vis a vis the Clinton Foundation was a legal as it was distasteful.  The Email scandal is a reminder of her extreme arrogance.  I'll never forget her "coming under fire in Bosnia". I don't like her one bit.

She served as Secretary of State.  You will all say that she was a huge failure, but I recall her at the time praised by a number of world leaders, again to my own incredulity.  At least we didn't go to war on her watch.

The problem is anyone with any record in public service will have bad things in their past.  It is utterly unavoidable.  That's where Trump gets ahead, he has no record of public service.  Obama's was so limited that no one could really point to anything he'd done wrong, he wasn't in it long enough to do anything wrong.

Trump has no idea what can and can't be done in the Oval office.  None.  He is frighteningly naive.  He is also quite bright, and could probably figure it out.  But there would be lots of teething pain.

And then there's Hillary.  Arrogant, nearly reptilian.  And enormously capable of doing the job.  Married to the best ex-president we have.  Maybe we'll get Bill for Secretary of State.  Wouldn't that be a hoot.

I'm not old enough to know much about Hillary from her days as a senator. Or anything about her time as First Lady. I didn't pay much attention to politics until I was in high school, about 10 years ago.

I do know that during her time as Secretary of State she was responsible for the Benghazi debacle and subsequently participated in or originated a scheme to hide the truth about what happened. She was negligent by putting an embassy with almost no security in Libya right after a civil war, an area without stable government, and a known hotbed of terrorist activity.

The Clinton foundation and all of her speaking fees, are a barely legal way to become personally rich as a politician. Maybe not illegal, but yes very distasteful. You know that wall street is not paying her $300,000 per speech to motivate some employees. They're buying something else with that 300k

The e-mail goes deeper than simple arrogance. Not only is it arrogant, but she has been grossly negligent in her handling of classified material. Which happens to be a serious crime. And you have to wonder about the reasons for having a personal server. It's not a reach to say she had this set up to skirt FOIA and to limit her accountability. Its also not a reach to assume her server was hacked. With 30+ top secret messages on there, she could have seriously hurt US intelligence or foreign policy. Remember, the e-mail story came out initially because hackers knew she had a private server.

So you are supporting a lying, scumbag, negligent politician over Trump because he is new to politics and might have "teething pains"?

That in itself shows classic microaggression.

Loser!

The guy went into the volunteer position with an agenda. He begins the video by saying he's an oppressed person in this society yet fails to articulate how he's oppressed and the interviewer didn't push him on it. The best he could come up with are the "microagressions" people had towards him. He had no real proof of any racism or hostility towards him so to justify his position of being oppressed he used the word "microagression", which is nearly impossible to prove one way or the other.

Anyone who says microagression is automatically a loser.

Thin end of the totalitarian wedge.  Sorry to read of those other concerns as well.  Will be interested to talk this over with my husband, who is prez of the local chapter.

Good for him. Maybe you can organize the chapter and other regional chapters, have them protest this latest development. Its probably hard enough to find YE volunteers as it is.

You know, the EAA is actually pretty grassroots. I know my two local chapters are filled with great people, some even have deep pockets. They don't need to go all corporate with draconian rules surrounding the young eagles program. If the EAA was run as a more down to earth organization, and some random, unthinkable thing happened on a YE flight I am pretty sure the membership would step up and support the EAA. But not anymore, its tough to feel sympathy for an organization that is run more like a for profit corporation and less like a non-profit charity that benefits aviation.

« on: February 03, 2016, 02:10:31 PM »

So, what you're saying is that his success is predicated upon leaning on a crutch that will not be at all available to him should he become POTUS.  You can't just say "Well, the FAA is overburdened by debt, we'll just default on that and move their responsibilities to the CAA" after all.

That's a ridiculous stretch.

I am saying that the claims that he is not successful, or poorly manages his business due to the bankruptcies are baseless. The business is set up to reduce risk wherever possible, all modern companies are run this way. Its the smart way to run a business.

OK, if you want to call it dumb, but still think about it for one moment. Yes, HE as done really well for himself. The same can't always be said for those under his direction. So, you're just fine handing the rains of the country to a guy that ran companies broke four times, but personally came out smelling like a rose, but I'm not. The great CEO of America and when it goes bankrupt (even more than it is), guess what? He'll still get his golden parachute and you will still be able to call him "a success".

To me that is lame. There is nothing in Trump's business dealings that inspire confidence, or even the right direction for America. Obviously you disagree and that's fine.

So let me repeat this and maybe you will understand.

Trump reduces his company's risk by setting individual properties, or groups of properties into their own entities. He buys them with the intention they will suceed, but if one of them does not work out, his liability is reduced because that entity can file for bankruptcy on its own. Are you suggesting this is a bad idea?

He's done this hundreds of times, and only 4 have failed. The overwhelming majority of his properties have done well, and that is why he is considered to be successful. The lenders and banks that had to eat the bankruptcy knew 100% the structure of the company, and knew the risk involved. They aren't loaning money for free and without doing due diligence.

This type of thing is done all the time. Our company does it. Individuals do it, when they incorporate a business or start an LLC. Limiting risk is smart business.

I have a similar friend. Growing up we rode dirt bikes together, went to races, from middle school on until about mid-way through college. We were roomates freshman year in college. Somewhere in there, he went from being kindof moderate and apathetic about politics, to drinking liberal cool-aid hardcore. I could definitely see him writing that letter. Fast forward a few years and we haven't really hung out much. No falling out between us., just different set of friends as he was hanging out with some hipsters. They were okay, I would go to parties with them occasionally but its not really my crowd. Anyway about 2 years ago he sends me a text, haven't seen you in awhile, want to meet for a drink someteime? Sure, I arrange to meet him at a bar after work to get some wings and drink beer.

We avoided talking about politics, but it was kinda lame, not much in common.. he tried to hit on these two girls sitting next to us and failed, we talk about work, he hates his job, does not make much money, long hours, boss is a dick... then asks if I have an extra room at my house for him, because parents want him out and he can't afford his own place. I kinda gave him the .. well dunno.. kinda like living by myself, but i'll let you know. Then the fucker thanks me for the beers, explains he can't pay for it because his paycheck does not come for another week, and leaves!

I have other die hard liberal acquaintances, but I avoid talking about politics at all with any of them like the PLAGUE. You know these people, the ones who post a bunch of liberal crap on social media. I will gladly talk politics and policy with other people but NOT the ones who I know are hardcore left. Because I know it won't be a conversation as they are not open minded people.

I can't say i'm completely open-minded as I think socialism is cancer, and anyone who is a socialist is an idiot. Though I am open to some progessive ideas, i'm somewhere between libertarian and conservative.

Oh and I don't post political stuff on social media. When your facebook could double as Hillary's talking points for tomorrow night's speech, you have gone too far!
