Sounds like you're saying that I can't depend on the courts to sort this out. I'm not a complaintant nor defendant. I'm an observer.

No, you're the target audience.  And the fact that you listened and then posted it here as "racism" shows that they got you.

I can now go to my grave knowing that the next generation is ready to take the torch of leadership.

For all those Donald supporters.  Is there a Rosetta stone or magic decoder ring that would allow us to figure out when the Donald is just using bluster, opinion, sarcasm, or just otherwise joking?  How to we tell what he truly believes?  There have been so many contradictions, deflections and walk-backs that it gets pretty confusing to sort this out.

Spin Zone / Re: What is a "weapon of war"?
« on: August 13, 2016, 11:09:50 AM »
Yeah, sure, if you say so, but IMO, the pro gun movement (which I am a member) needs to be more honest than this. Those other characteristics are much more than "cosmetic". They are actual improvements in the weapon's effectiveness at killing people. At some point we need to change the conversation away from the "The AR-15 and other's like it is just the same as Grandpa's old gun" argument and towards the facts and the true meaning of the Constitution.

Fact- The AR-15 is nearly as good of a killing machine as the M-16. Automatic fire is used mostly for suppressing fire. More often than not, carefully aimed shots get the kill. Fact- The Constitution is about arming the people with the means to counter their government if need be. The AR-15 is a good match for the M-16. Fact- AR-15s and similar "assault rifles" are not used in many homicides, or gun crimes. Fact- Domestic terrorists can get easy access to the AR-15 and it's popular with them.

These are issues that need to be discussed. To say that the AR-15 is just a regular ol' gun, nuthin' to see here, move along... is disingenuous. It is not your grandpa's gun. Rather we should be emphasizing the reasons we should have the AR-15 and why a ban is not needed.

fact:  improvements made to the "AR-15" type platform have improved the reliability of the rifle, and accuracy.  (for example, adding weight helps in shooting competitions but those stock weights and forearm weights would never ever be added to an M-16 intended for combat).  (another example, match triggers are an improvement to the "AR-15" type platform but would not last long in combat conditions)

fact:  baseball bats are used more often than any form of AR-15 to kill and injure people.

fact:  My Bushmaster was designed to be an accurate rifle for shooting competitions.

fact:  Although millions and millions of firearms have been sold in the USA, gun deaths have remained relatively flat.  and the sad reality is that suicides make up about half of firearm deaths.

"Domestic terrorists can get easy access to the AR-15 and it's popular with them"  - well, to that I ask:  so what?  if the AR-15 wasn't available, domestic terrorists would use something else, like pressure cookers, pipe bombs, or box cutters.  Oh wait, they already have used those.  It is completely irrational to think that eliminating all AR-15s would stop domestics terrorism (or even slow it down).

I believe that it is NOT incumbent on gun owners to justify why we need any firearm.  I believe it is incumbent on the anti-gun <deleted> to justify restricting my constitutional rights.

I do agree honesty is needed in the discussion.  Sadly, honesty from the anti-gun crowd is rare.  and even more sadly, ignorance seems to be their preferred approach.

Hillary's functions are so tightly controlled, it is hard to believe he got there, behind the stage in full view of the audience and cameras, without someone arranging it or at least knowing about it.

Agreed. It is really curious. Which voting block do the Democrats care about most? The LGBT community, or the Muslim community? It's pretty clear they don't give a damn about the regular American community because they allowed that fucking guy behind their Fuhrer.

I think it is hysterically funny that the guy constantly searching for things to make up and blame on 'racism' is pissed because we didn;t take the bait.

I am tired of the race discussion.  I just don't care.

I'm waiting for Trump to start going after Hillary instead of Cruz. I understand he can't expend all of his political ammo right now but this petty stuff of attacking Cruz needs to stop. He discussed unity during his announcement of Mike Pence and he's not showing it when he continues to attack Cruz.

This is a very hard election but I keep coming back to the question of, if I vote for Trump this time and he doesn't win, what's the argument going to be in 2020 if the Republicans nominate another less than ideal candidate? Vote for him anyway to prevent Hillary from getting another four years? I've asked several times when this nasty cycle will end and I have yet to receive a sufficient response. I'm still on the fence though I'm currently leaning towards a write-in (which is not a vote for Hillary, no matter how you look at it).

Let's face it, White Supremacy has ruled the planet for the last 4,000 years so it's pervasive.  I acknowledge its pervasiveness but I know that we are now at the time in the history of the world where it's on it's way out.  I don't think it will be in my lifetime, but as Dr. King said, "I've seen the Mountaintop".

White supremacy is not a tangible thing or a people, or a set of peoples.  It is an idea.   It is an idea that has taken root in some whites in their arrogance and it has taken root in some minorities in their jealousy and need for a boogie man.

Our ancestors all started in Africa.  From there they spread to all corners.  My ancestors wondered into Europe.  The weather was harsher and their skin became more pale so it could pick up the vitamin D from the sun.  They didn't go to Europe with some plan to turn white and oppress all those who were not as white.  Through a combination of many factors, societies grew there that advanced more rapidly in a technological sense.  They didn't make these discoveries so that they could oppress those with more melanin in their skin.  They did it to make their life better.  It was probably a combination of harsher climate that required more effort to survive and the fragmenting of religions that allowed more freedom of thought and ideas.

Having gained a technological edge, the white Europeans set out to exploit their good fortune and effort.  Being on the receiving end of that was not always wonderful, I will grant.  Though when it comes to slavery, the Europeans learned from and were aided and abetted by the Africans of the time who had been trading in slaves for centuries.  When Europe was weak, North African raiders would sail up into France and England and raid villages and take slaves.  When the English and Portuguese slave traders went to Africa, they rarely raided villages.  Other tribes did that and sold the captives they took to the slave traders who then brought them to the New World.  It seems to me that there is a lot of blame to go around and on some level it is a cop out to just blame it all on racism and white supremacy.

I totally agree that the police are too trigger happy and that there are institutional and social barriers that blacks in this country face.  Ditto women.  Ditto gays.  Ditto Hispanics.  As some point, everyone and every group just has to say "screw it" and gets up and does their individual best to do as best as they can.  Adding a California perspective, the Chinese came here in droves and were dumped on and exploited for decades.  But as a group, they picked themselves up and now there are more of them in the top schools in California than those from a European background.

The world is not just black and white.  Neither are the solutions, IMV.

The towers didn't go limp.  The heating in the building would be uneven due to where the airplane impacted, causing that portion of the building to soften.  Also, from what I understand the center structure wasn't hit by the airplane and should have been intact.

Paraphrased as best I can from Bobby: 'Concrete undergoes an explosion (can't recall the term he used) from the boiling and expansion of the trapped water at temperatures below that of molten steel, this didn't occur in the videos.  Also the black smoke at the bottom is indicative of where the pressure forces exist....I would have expected to see fire on the roof of Tower #7 but that didn't happen.'

The towers were made of steel and it didn't have a structural center section as I understand.  The structural strength was about the outside, considering vertical steel members.  Once 20,000+ gallons of flaming Jet A was introduced into the center section, it acted primarily on the flooring and the attachment bolts.  When the floors started to fail, one fell on the floor below, the exterior beams lost their support and started to bow out causing them to fail on compression and the upper floors came crashing down.  The lower floor couldn't carry the weight and it just pancaked downward.

The problem with these conspiracies it always requires a degree of cleverness and that a cast of hundreds keep their mouth shut.  It is amazing that the same people who think our government is incompetent can also think them able to pull off such a grand, dastardly conspiracy.

You underestimate the degree to which the mindset of White Supremacy has infected society and the world.

What do you mean by White Supremacy?  Most of us go through our day without thinking about the color of our skin or that of anyone else's.

The whole racism thing is a bit of a misnomer in my mind.  Humans are still fundamentally tribal.  Until we can have an honest conversation about that, then groups will keep fighting with other groups.  Which side has the White Supremacy thing happening when Irish Protestants are killing Irish Catholics?  How about the Japanese?  They think they are better than everyone.  Is that White Supremacy?  Where was the White Supremacy when the Hutus were slaughtering the Tutsis in Rwanda?  In generations past in this country, WASP's looked down on Jews, Catholics, Irish, Italians, etc.

The problem with putting everything in the context of skin tone is that is doesn't get to the heart of the issue and perpetuates an excuse for the poor to stay poor and justify taking the handouts as something owed.  In our society, we have at least gotten as far as any from a rigid class structure.  Here, money rules and there are opportunities for all to get some.  Admittedly, some have to work harder than others, but if you are completely trapped in our society, then the chains are those they have put there themselves.

The opinions expressed here are of the commentator alone and do not necessary reflect those of this forum's management or staff, or in fact, most of the human race.  :)

He could have cut his speech by more than half, and still have made his points.

Why would he need to go to a memorial service to "make his point"?

It's a memorial service for 5 cops who were gunned down, it was not a political event.
