"When Mount Vesuvius erupted, the explosion caused such extreme heat that victims' skulls exploded..."

I see what you did there!
But seriously, can you imagine the stones on the people called to defuse a WWII bomb that’s been sitting in earth for over 50 years?
In the words of “Joliet” Jake Blues,

Seems to be an odd place to bomb.
Interesting quote:

“Under the law, before any excavations can be carried out, we must work together with military engineers to clear the site,” Mr Osanna told The Telegraph on Sunday. “A bomb went off 30 years ago but that is impossible now under the regulations.
Nice that they have regulations in place to keep bombs from exploding.

A few days ago, they found an unexploded U.S. WWII bomb in Frankfurt. It was a big sucker and I bet these bombs could still go off if handled improperly. Such stones is right Stan!
Thousands of people have been evacuated from a district of Frankfurt that includes the European Central Bank headquarters as authorities prepare to defuse a half-tonne World War II bomb.
City officials ordered around 16,500 people to leave their homes in the Ostend district before the operation was scheduled to begin.
More than 70 years after the end of WWII, unexploded bombs are frequently found in Germany and disposing of them sometimes require large-scale precautionary evacuations.
The 500 kg American bomb in Frankfurt was found during construction work last month and officials waited to defuse it, giving them time to prepare the operation and minimise disruption in Germany's financial capital.

When I was stationed on Okinawa in 1997-1998 as a Marine, there was a few times they found leftover ordnance from WWII. None close to where I was at, but as a dumb 19-20 year old, I know I would have tried to go check it out if it was.

Pompeii is a very cool place to see, very cool.

My father was stationed on Guam when I was in 4th and 5th grade. Every year we had an assembly where EOD folks brought in a bunch of cool ordnance and told us if we found anything like it, don't touch. I still wandered around in the boonies looking for stuff.

A buddy flew KC-135s out of Guam 1970-1972 I think. Refueled during Linebacker II among other missions.
The feeling was there weren’t many fans of Guam. He said the name stands for Give Up And Masterbate. Lol

I spent a year on that Island.

A friend of mine is the Government of Guam's financial advisor. I will have to ask her what she thinks of them. I know it is a U.S. Territory, but not much else.

What I remember about Guam is HOT, sticky, humid and bugs

Sounds like my new home here in southeast coastal Texas. Some of the bugs are edible though. They call them “mud bugs”.

I was there 1966 to 1968. I remember the B52s flying over our house on Nimitz Hill on the way back from Viet Nam. Amazing sight.
