Title: CNBC has to eat its own words, Trump succeeds again
Post by: invflatspin on May 22, 2018, 07:22:12 AM
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/22/gm-tesla-shares-rise-after-china-says-it-will-cut-tariffs-on-car-parts-and-vehicles.html

Back in late Jan, and part of Feb, CNBC was going all chicken little on trade with China. Saying that China will NEVER give in to US demands for lowering import tariffs. Calling out Trump as a bull in a China shop(get it?), and all kinds of threats that US tariffs will destroy the 'delicate balance of trade we have enjoyed for decades'.  Well - about face! China just agreed to massive cuts on auto imports, and other parts imports. At first, China threatened. They actually raised tariffs on some imports, but those tariffs were put on hold while US and China had trade talks this spring. Now that all the short knives have been put away, the long knives come out, and the US and EU are the big winners.

The US will gain, but more than that, the EU members which sell more cars in China will also win. So will the Japanese. BMW, VW, Lexus should be sending Trump big, fat thank you checks for raising their auto export business starting this fall. But - will they? Oh, hell, no. BMW and VW and the others will pocket that extra money, not give Trump credit for the work, and continue to bash him publicly in the media. Merkel - you know, the lady who likes to trade with major terrorist sponsor Iran is going to see her GDP climb nicely with increased lux car sales in China. All thanks to Trump who has BALLS OF STEEL.

We finally have a businessman in the White House instead of some political hack, or Community Organizer/political hack.  He knows that you must negotiate from a position of strength.  Both the EU, and Asia NEED our markets more than we need theirs.  That is tremendous leverage, that previous Presidents of both parties ignored.  They just kept kicking the can down the road.  Go along to get along.

Do you think Jeb Bush, or Hillary would have done any different than previous Presidents?  NOPE.

Everytime the US has another win, I think of this;
