According to an article written by former U.S. Representative Bob Barr, hidden away in the recently passed infrastructure bill, the very one I warned before would negatively impact drivers across the country if it were to pass, is a measure to install vehicle kill switches into every new car, truck, and SUV sold in this country. The regulation likely won’t be enforced for five years, so maybe there’s time to do something about this.

It took me a few web hops to track down the actual text of the bill, but I believe I found it:

Bob Barr actually wrote his article November 2021, so the news moved slowly:

I specifically for the text he used, "passively monitor the performance of a driver of a motor vehicle to accurately identify whether that driver may be impaired".
To the extent there is any "good news" about yet another authoritarian dictate, the system doesn't seem feasible and the law implies that is the case because it allows the Secretary of Transportation to periodically report why such a system hasn't been implemented. Barr also says the law would allow for a remote kill switch allowing manual intervention, but I don't see that since the enabling law repeatedly uses the word "passive". That allows some legal ground to push back any attempt to make it active by way of manual intervention.

But it’s like when they switched out my power meter for a remotely controlled one. They were promoting that you could request the power company to throttle your power certain hours of the day to “save on your bill”. There was no option to keep the old meter. So when the guy was installing it I asked him if it would ever be used to reduce my power consumption without my consent. Oh no, was the answer. Then why install it? So we don’t have to come to your house to read it. What about the “control” part? Well, we’re installing them whether you use that part or not.
BUT…… now the means for them to do that is there. I don’t trust for one second it will never be used. Eventually the power company will be forced by government to use it, I have no doubt.
This is exactly what happened with the Patriot act. It gave the NSA the ability to spy on innocent American citizens. Oh no but they won’t, they’ll only use it to catch terrorists. Well back then Al Quaida were the terrorists, now, all the government had to do was redefine terrorist to mean anyone who believes the 2020 election was stolen, and parents who attend school board meetings. Oh yeah, also the 20 House reps who didn’t initially vote for McCarthy.

They're called "Smart Meters" and all the power companies are requiring them. Yes, the intent is to shut you down, or limit you during peak hours when you REALLY NEED IT THE MOST. Fascism, again.
