Spin Zone / Re: Rich vs Middle Class
« on: December 15, 2017, 09:01:02 AM »I read an article recently that postulated the beginnings of socioeconomic disparity were in the domestication of animals. Socioeconomically better off families had lots of domestic animals, less well off families had none. The estimated index of socioeconomic disparity in ancient cultures was reported as .35, with 0 being complete equality and 1 being all the wealth in the hands of one person. I will not claim to know how they generated the number.
The socioeconomic disparity index for our culture was .85.
87% of statistics is made up.
For all I know, the "wealth" of children is calculated into the stats.
When I was fresh out on my own I was "poor", now I'm "rich".
The poorest people in the US are rich beyond imagination compared with their ancestors who lived as recently as a couple hundred years ago.
People who win massive lotteries are generally lower class economically. Most of them are soon broke. Why is that?
The vast majority of the truly rich give away a lot of their wealth and/or invest it and employ a lot of people.
Most of the people in perpetual poverty live that way because they like being taken care of by the government, they are addicts, or mentally/physically disabled (in which case they are provided with free medical care and a stipend from the taxpayers.)
