Title: Freedom of the Press; any restrictions?
Post by: Little Joe on November 04, 2016, 08:43:11 AM
I do believe in the 1st Amendment, but channeling my inner-Hillary, I have to add a "but" to that.

For instance,
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/sources-us-intel-warning-of-possible-al-qaeda-attacks-in-us-monday/?ref=yfp

Should the press be reporting about anticipated terror attacks?  If I were one of these tangos, I would change my plan, pronto.

There is also another thread going on about report early voting statistics with discussion about how maybe that should not be allowed.

Perhaps our press is a little too free?

Like any freedoms/rights, the "freedom of the press" must be balanced against other rights/freedoms.

For example, "freedom of the press" should not be invoked to attempt to justify revealing classified information.

Cut out the judgment part from your thread and ask it this way. If I am in charge, can I insert anything tha I judge to be not OK in front of this statement?  Are you comfortable with that?

No, I don't think there is such a thing as "too free".

I agree.  But perhaps there could be a little more freedom for our military and intelligence services to withhold certain information, at least for some amount of time.  Perhaps the phrase "no comment" should be a little more legally emphatic.

But I agree that it is a slippery slope.

The military and intel services are entirely free to withhold anything they want to withhold.  The key is for them to actually hold the information.

The press, once they get their hands on it, however, are entirely free to publish it.

This sham warning is a pathetic ploy to reduce voter turnout out of fear and anxiety. The Obama Regime has played the national security care before to try and get their way.

There is no way to prove nor disprove either your statement or the validity of the news report. On one hand, one could view this as showing that our intelligence efforts are paying off because we are actively working to stop attacks from occurring. On the other hand, it could be argued that by revealing the threat before it has been stopped we have alerted the potential attackers and given them time to modify their plans.

..or just made up shit, which has happened before. I remember a speech the boy wonder made during his first term and instantly upon stepping away from his throne, I mean podium, his clown car people claimed there was a clean, significant and serious terrorist threat against NYC. The entire city played along, spending millions and millions on nothing more than a play acted show

My point was that we don't know if the threat was real or made up. It is reasonable to think that a terrorist attack could occur on election day when millions of people will be going to the polls.

This article from Zero Hedge states that ISIS has said they want to slaughter U.S. citizens on election day. Did they say this as a result of the media reports of a potential terrorist attack? Perhaps. Either way, there's way no to tell if there was a legit threat or if it was made up.

There is nothing the democratic party wouldn't do to steal this election, including a made for TV terror attack. That is how cynical, calculating, and disgustingly empowered they feel to rule over the rest of us serfs.
