Title: Warning: Malware in FannieMuh's posts.
Post by: Anthony on July 27, 2019, 06:39:20 AM
It has been indicated to me by another member that there is Malware in FannieMuh's posts.  I will not delete these posts as previously when I deleted one SPAM post, several members were upset by that act of moderating the board.

These are instructions on how to put people on IGNORE.

I did enter a user into my ignore list, but their posts still show up.  I even logged out and back in and I still see their posts.  What am I missing.

Ok, I just clicked on one of the posts, and I got a message that said I am ignoring that user.  I thought (was hoping) I wouldn't see their posts in the index list.

It should remove the post.   It will still show the post in the index, but when you go to the thread it should remove it from your view.

The software only ignores the posters CONTENT, not the actual post.  You will still see the post, but the content will not be there.  It will tell you that you have the poster on "ignore".  I do not know of a way to put posts on ignore, just content.

The Administrator must have taken away the ability for me and others to delete posts or users.  It may have been due to the uproar from last time.  Sorry.

We didn’t have a problem until a couple of crybabies got their diapers twisted.

I haven't said anything about this in a long time, in spite of several moderators bitching about it since then because I didn't want to restart that conflict.

I was one of the complainers, but I wasn't complaining about a moderator deleting a post.   My bitch was how some of the moderators got up on their haunches and lashed out an anyone that questioned them.  In fact, my comment started out as a joke, but I was quickly vilified and got defensive.  It got kind of vicious.

I have always thought a little moderation is necessary, even on a board that was born as a direct result of over-moderation.

The answer to concern/criticism of moderation is not the complete absence of moderation.

The whole purpose of moderation was for what we are seeing with fannie muh.  Nothing more, just to keep the malicious spammers away.

One advantage of the old usenet system was a good reader had the capability to filter out entire threads, posts, and even replies to specific trolls.

If you read the forum like I do by selecting "New Unread Posts", you can just mark them all read, and they won't show up unless you go into each sub forum and look at them.

I figured there was a spammer when I saw more than a handful of posts on the board.  They just be getting really hard up to want to hit this.

I’ll defend the perfesser on this.  It takes actual skill and intelligence to do what the spammers do.

I don't think it is him either, but what skill does it take to create an account and post provocative pictures?

Well I was being facetious due to his comment.  It is probably a bot.

Isn't that how this board got created? Moderators were pandering to the whiners?

Seriously, zapping obvious spam posts should not cause issues. I'm certain that pretty much anyone on this board would agree that they need to go.

BTW... Many of the new "members" have links in their signatures that still show up after you edit their posts. This is why deleting the post, rather than editing, would be a better solution. Permanent banning would help too.

I mentioned in another thread about blocking IPs. I'd have to dig it up, but I have a list of IPs that are blocked on another board I peruse. I'll see if I can find it.

I don't think the whiners were whining about deleting spammers and bots. They were whining because nobody asked them to be moderators and were feeling butt hurt about it.

True, but I and some other tried to delete, or block the obvious spam posters, but could not as our tools have been removed, probably from complaints due to me deleting one of Shamalamadingdong's post way back when.

That's total bullshit and it is bullshit like that that pissed off us whiners in the first place.
And it's bullshit like that that will continue to piss us off.

We didn't want to be moderators.  We were surprised that a website that advertised itself as having no moderation suddenly had four moderators.  No announcement no nothing.  We expressed surprise and were immediately labeled as whiners.  Yeah, we got defensive when we were told to sit down and shut up and take it and we had nothing to say about it.  It had nothing to do with deleting a stupid post and it had nothing to do with us wanting to be moderators.  You sound like an MSNBC host when you make up shit like that.

Some of you seem to want to reopen old sores.  Well then, lets just rip the bandaid off.  Asshole.

I was the ONLY one to delete a post that was obviously SPAM.  I understood, and embraced the argument of an unmoderated board.  I get it, and I get what happened at POA.  However, POA moderated based upon BIASED political thought, not related to deleting SPAM.  I know you see the difference, and are a reasonable person.  No worries.

My view, and I may be wrong, was that some people had a problem with ME exercising my judgement due to my political leanings.  One person even questioned my judgement in an acerbic way.  That's fine.  Freedom of expression is welcomed here.

The bottom line is that for me personally, is to try not to demonize people for their political views, left, right, or center, and encourage debate.  That does NOT mean we can not disagree.  Obviously, people can, and should act anyway they want.  What I do demonize is DISHNONESTY which I see mostly from the LEFT.  Again, not saying that about you, nor anyone in particular.

In the meantime, go suck my shoelaces.

I really don't think that's the case, as this is an unmoderated board, and the moderator label was thrust upon us unknowingly due to only post count.  It was probably and automatic thing in the software.

The spammers wanted to get us squabbling by the specific nature of some of the posts.  I think some of it are a former user.

Being a moderator should be a job that no one should want, like being named Pope.

For whatever reason we no longer have the ability to delete posts.  One of our members has reached out to the administrator to see what can be done.  So far, no response.

The person who started PS in response to POA’s closing of the SZ. Forgot his name.
