I respect asechrest for his straightforward and honest positions. I often virulently disagree with his conclusions, but he isn't someone who proclaims the talking points given by the communist party. Why the communists call themselves the democratic party is beyond me.

I think of him (you) as a classic liberal, like those who protested the Vietnam War, but refused to spit and abuse returning soldiers. As for those cowards, I still have nothing but vile contempt.

One would never catch asecrest attempting to have a law passed making it illegal for teenagers to wear a MAGA hat, like a low-life, scum sucking liberal congressman is recommending. There is nothing liberal about modern liberals. They are the worst exxample of regressive this side of the islamic loudmouthed, punks.

Something funny -

After I bought my old Snapper rear engine rider, and being a fan of Forrest Gump, I bought a Bubba Gump Shrimp Company hat. It's red. I'm wearing it most weekends.
I regularly get stared at, and I think it's because red hats have become so ubiquitous with MAGA hats that they're trying to see what's written on it.

Of course, it could just be because I look stupid in dirty jeans and a Bubba Gump hat.  ;D

This is true sometimes, but the truth is 90% of the the people on both sides don't understand their own positions, so they are incapable of discussing them.  They just parrot back the things they've been told and then get indignant when you don't agree with them...we have some of them here.

While I have no idea if your 90% statistic is accurate, I agree with your sentiment. That's why I mentioned you want a good debater and not a sheep.

Since the thread is kinda about the wall, I'll use the it as an example.  Nancy Pelosi says the wall is ineffective and the Lefties go right into repeating that without knowing why.  Then you ask them "Ineffective?  No, a wall is very effective at forcing people to use a door" and they blow up and storm out because you've contradicted what they "know" and they reject you.

In this case, I don't understand Pelosi and nobody can explain to me what she means, so I'm forced to fall back on "she doesn't want Trump to win".  But that seems unreasonable to me, so I'm left with the choices that I don't understand or that Pelosi is unreasonable.  But which is right...

I think we both know why Pelosi says what she says. She is the literal definition of a career politician, and she says what she says because it's good for the perpetuation of her own power, either directly or indirectly.

You can't support your positions at all.  You would love to moderate a board, but you can't and it kills you.  There is no moderation here, so maybe try harder to criticize.  Again, there is NO substance behind your positions.  Point to one that made logical sense.

If you want dishonesty, examine Democrat, Liberal/Progressive ideas, and policy.  It can not hold up to scrutiny.  It is counter to the human condition, and based on emotion, and fear.

If you want butthurt go back and look at your posts about the removal of ONE spam post here.  Look in the mirror for butthurt, and dishonesty pal.

I manage people for a living. I'd rather shoot myself than moderate a message board in my off time.

You've never seen someone freeze up when confronted with mortal danger?

I have.  I know that he's a good person, his brain just couldn't process anything but hiding from the danger.  Yes, we removed him from the boat, but we didn't shitcan his 18 year career or his retirement because he couldn't do one element of his job.  He had served well up to that point.

People need to learn to relax on both sides.  The deputy didn't handle the stress of a live shooter situation correctly  That is one mistake in however many decades that he served.  Yes, it taints his career, but if you want to line him up and shoot him over this, then I suggest you look extra hard at yourself to make you NEVER have a single mistake in your career.

BTW, N7, I have no inner snowflake.  What I have is experience in this realm.  So snuggle down into your warm, comfortable armchair and keep throwing those cowardly little insults around.  Bitch.

With due respect to you, since I know you served and I didn't', I really think you're missing the point. My point, at least. Nowhere have I said he's not human, and apt to make mistakes in his career. Or apt to freeze under fire. Nowhere have I said he should be lined up and shot. But that doesn't make it inappropriate to criticize a dereliction of duty, wherein the children he was sworn to protect needed him, and he failed to deliver. And not only failed to deliver, but refused to take action when others did. I feel similarly when a police officer shoots an unarmed subject who was doing nothing wrong, because the officer felt like they were maybe in danger. We pay police officers to enter situations of elevated danger, rare though they may be per the statistics.

Most of us are subject to ruin with one huge mistake, despite a lifetime of good work. Such is life.

he did not run away.  He just didn't go storming in alone.  Police training also teaches to get backup.

Those who have been in that situation know how they react.  Everyone else should give a little leeway.

As backup arrived, he warned them not to go in. After backup arrived and headed into the building, he stayed behind.

We pay the police to do a job, and part of that job involves sometimes entering into situations with substantially elevated risk. It is acceptable to criticize them when they fail in that duty. And I think this armed resource officer failed in that duty.

What's the climate in Tampa Bay like May through September?

Hot. Humid. We do get a sea breeze so that's nice. If you're not used to it you'll want to stay out of the midday sun or be near water. Sunscreen is a must; folks not from the area don't realize how brutal it can be.

Near daily afternoon showers and TS, short duration, sometimes severe. But not widespread like folks from other states might be used to. It's not uncommon to be driving through torrential rain and then 2 minutes later you emerge into blaring sun and not a drop of rain.

Don't be too hard on Asechrest.  He's (slowly) coming around.  And he often has logical arguments for his positions that I don't necessarily share.

It's ok. Who knows, maybe I am also constantly judging whether the women around me are "real women" without even the courtesy of getting to know them.

Here is the before and after of December's project at my house, courtesy yours truly, the girly man.

I bet good money I am far in better shape than you. I am a vegetarian, and I walk 6 miles a day for excercise. I am mentally awake, and morally straight. I try to help my students as much as I can. I gave a C- to a woman because she was 0.01 points away from from being flunked, and I couldn’t flunk her because she was so close. I had to flunk two guys who were supposed to graduate. I didn’t want to do so, but had to. It was up to them to learn, not me. But once I did it I hated myself so much all I could do was go home to drink.

Normally when I drink the rules are no more than one drink an hour, no more than three a night, and of course 8 hours bottle to throttle. After flunking two guys who were both going to graduate the only rule was keep the fucking glass full. The second time I’ve hidden from myself in a bottle, and the first was because I had to flunk a graduating senior.

I don’t need the damn Boy Scouts to figure out how to lead a good life. I figured that stuff all on my own.  What you guys will never get is some people don’t fit into your little fucking boxes and do just fine despite.  Wisdom is the ability to see beyond the lens of your own experience, something I doubt any of you will ever be able to do. And I truly and honestly pity you for it. Being able to see eye to eye with someone truly different from you is one of life’s Greatest pleasures.

I generally think you get short shrift here on the forums and are often unnecessarily brutalized. But in this thread, you're a self-righteous ass, and your lecture about seeing beyond your own lens is the height of projection given the way you've carried yourself in this discussion. Some self-reflection is surely in order.

I don't know.  Ask my girlfriend.

As soon as you re-inflate her, I promise to ask.

I got my first stitches from a Troop meeting (404). We used to play football at dusk at the end of the meeting. I ran directly into the skull of one of the much older Scouts. I was a scrawny kid. Popped my eyebrow open. He was none the worse for wear. Hah.

I suspect you would quickly realize the difference had you a sauce freshly made from fresh tomatoes.

I suspect you might be surprised to learn otherwise. Many of the best pizza places in the country, and I believe in the world, are using canned tomatoes. Fresh tomatoes have, obviously, a lovely flavor if they are good and in season. But they are perhaps not what the pallet expects on a pizza. Another challenge - fresh tomatoes out of season can be truly underwhelming, whereas good canned tomatoes are canned during season.

On Jeff Varasano's page, he says this -

Quote
Using Fresh Tomato

An alternative to canned tomatoes is fresh tomatoes. Even the best cans have a tinny odor, so you'd think that nothing could top fresh tomatoes. But using 100% fresh tomatoes is not necessarily the best thing. If you prepare fresh tomatoes and taste it raw, compared to canned, the fresh will win. But somehow, on the pizza, the canned will win. Partly it's that the fresh tomato taste is simply different than we are all used to and so it never tastes like your favorite pizza place.  I've probably not experimented enough to say for sure.

He does go on to suggest a procedure for using fresh tomatoes, and suggest Ugly Ripes as a commercial possibility for fresh tomatoes.

Telling? It’s a secret who gives the harshest responses? I pay a lot of attention to the people and posts here precisely because I seek perspectives not my own.

I come here for the same reason you do. We have a mix of viewpoints here. That goes away, so do I.

If you come here to be immersed in perspectives not your own -- or at least, the perspectives I think you have based on your posts -- you're in the wrong place. PilotSpin validates your viewpoints. This is the land of the very conservative, with a scant few who have the guts to post otherwise. We don't have a mix of viewpoints, we have a cacophony of conservative perspectives and a whisper of anything else.
