Spin Zone / Trump speech in Saudi Arabia
« on: May 21, 2017, 04:06:17 PM »
Heart of Trump's speech in Saudi Arabia:

Quote
Terrorism has spread across the world. But the path to peace begins right here, on this ancient soil, in this sacred land.
America is prepared to stand with you – in pursuit of shared interests and common security.
But the nations of the Middle East cannot wait for American power to crush this enemy for them. The nations of the Middle East will have to decide what kind of future they want for themselves, for their countries, and for their children.
It is a choice between two futures – and it is a choice America CANNOT make for you.
A better future is only possible if your nations drive out the terrorists and extremists. Drive. Them. Out.
DRIVE THEM OUT of your places of worship.
DRIVE THEM OUT of your communities.
DRIVE THEM OUT of your holy land, and
DRIVE THEM OUT OF THIS EARTH.

I like the message.  The path to destroying radical terrorists is to delegitimize their actions.  Too many Muslims either don't care or approve when ISIS does violence.  That perception needs to change.

We have experienced that in the United States too with the Klan.  We exposed who they were and what they did and condemned them soundly.  Today, because of that condemnation, the Klan is basically defunct with less than 5,000 members.

This is the path for peaceful Muslims to follow with radical terrorists.  It is not enough to say "oh, they don't speak for Islam", because the terrorist ARE speaking for Islam.

Spin Zone / Russia meeting - what gives?
« on: May 16, 2017, 02:50:19 PM »
So can someone accurately explain what's going on for the last day with the Russia meeting?  Have the Democrats even defined what crime they think was committed or have they jumped straight to "we hate him, so off with his head"?

Spin Zone / Can someone explain how anyone could endorse socialism?
« on: April 07, 2017, 08:13:51 AM »
I know the board is heavily slanted right, but this is something I sincerely would like to know.  To me, socialism is illogical and fights against human nature, it suffers by the application of the laws of economics.  Is this a case that socialists are just ignorant of what they don't know or am I missing something.

Spin Zone / Surcharges to pay for minimum wages
« on: March 10, 2017, 05:35:25 AM »
Quote
Restaurant diners are footing the bill for rising minimum wages.

In lieu of steep menu price increases, many independent and regional chain restaurants in states including Arizona, California, Colorado and New York are adding surcharges of 3% to 4% to help offset rising labor costs. Industry analysts expect the practice to become widespread as more cities and states increase minimum wages

Where did I hear that this was going to happen?  Oh, right here.  In fact, most of us probably said that it was going to happen.

Told you so.

Spin Zone / But. but. but....Bush

October 2014.  Report about the non-victim service men who were not exposed to chemical weapons in Iraq while desposing of conventional ordinance.  These are the WMDs that did not exist in Iraq because Saddam Hussein told the the UN that he didn't have any and we all know what faithful angels those people are/were.

Quote
Rear Adm. John Kirby, spokesman for Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, declined to address specific incidents detailed in the Times investigation, or to discuss the medical care and denial of medals for troops who were exposed. But he said that the military’s health care system and awards practices were under review, and that Mr. Hagel expected the services to address any shortcomings.

“The secretary believes all service members deserve the best medical and administrative support possible,” he said. “He is, of course, concerned by any indication or allegation they have not received such support. His expectation is that leaders at all levels will strive to correct errors made, when and where they are made.”

Spin Zone / I think I just heard the Pope say that he is racist
« on: February 21, 2017, 03:22:14 PM »
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2017/02/15/pope-francis-wades-into-us-oil-pipeline-dispute.html

The pope has discriminated by stating that "indigenous groups" have a right to "their" ancestral land.

My question is - how did he divide the people?  Because the last that I checked, I was a native American too.  My ancestral land - the land of my ancestors - was developed and I had no say in what was being built there (condos).  I gained no benefit from it.  I would have gladly kept everything as it was.

So, other than racism (ie, the promotion of one "race" over another), how does the pope judge that the Injuns are better than me?  Why do THEY get control of their ancestral lands and I do not?

I don't mean this as a joke - I think this is racism, it is a dividing and promotion of one group of people over another group of people based on race.  And the leader of the largest and oldest Christian church in the world should know better.

Spin Zone / BasicMed

Sorry for injecting real life aviation stuff here, but just want to say - I'm excited about seeing the BasicMed information come out and that it will be effective May 1.  I think it's really good news for GA.

If you want to make it political, you can go read the thoughts of everyone's favorite AME over on the AOPA board.  According to him, only idiot doctors will give BasicMed examinations.  But then I suspect he is not in a position to be objective about it.

Spin Zone / Recess Appointments
« on: January 02, 2017, 10:55:10 AM »
This is kinda a preemptive post because I've started hearing the idea of recess appointments being floated during the 5 minute gavel-out / gavel-in session for the Senate.

To put it bluntly, no, president Obama cannot make a recess appointment during the five minutes that the Senate is not in session.  This has been previously decided in the case of National Labor Relations Board v. Noel Canning, which was decided 9-0 that Obama's last try at doing this in 2012 was not legal.  I don't recall it, but in 2012 Obama tried to make multiple appointments, including 5 to the NLRB during a 3 day recess.  In 2014 the court ruled that a recess of less than 3 days does not trigger the recess appointment clause.  Their reasoning was that the recess appointment exists to provide continuity in government not to bypass the will of the Senate.  He did this 4 years ago and got slapped down for it, it will clearly be illegal if he tries it again.

So if you hear the idea, you are not informed enough to know that the Supreme Court already unanimously decided the issue.

Spin Zone / From the NY Times - do the left and right agree?
« on: December 28, 2016, 01:25:33 PM »
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/28/opinion/tom-cotton-fix-immigration-its-what-voters-want.html?_r=0

Is this a case of the left and right actually agreeing on something?  Or just a red herring?

This is the NY Times arguing for better wages for Americans through immigration control.  Farm owners and businesses are the ones arguing for less control because more people means they can depress wages even further.  If that also means more unemployed people, well, it isn't their problem.  The poor little snots will learn to fall in line and work or they will starve.

I refuse to believe that if you offer someone a decent wage for a valuable job and treat them well that anyone prefers to live in poverty rather do honest work and live better.

By coincidence, this is also probably the key issue that separated Trump and Clinton and what caused roughly 700,000 rust belt voters to defect and give the election to Trump.

Elections have consequences.

Spin Zone / Mall wants to ban woman

http://www.cnn.com/2016/12/22/us/mall-racist-rant-trnd/index.html

Question - if the mall wants to ban this woman for bad behavior, why can A business not decide that other behavior (like cross dressing g) is bad and ban it?  Double standard?

Spin Zone / Fake News
« on: December 09, 2016, 02:15:43 PM »
Dan Rather - falsely claimed that George Bush deserted from the Air National Guard.  He was fired for this, but it was otherwise OK because he was liberal and trying to do good things by shutting down Bush.

Brian Williams claimed he was shot down by an enemy RPG in Iraq.  Not true, but he was otherwise OK because he was liberal and trying to do good by pumping up his credentials

MSNBC actively lied via omission by altering the 911 tape from the George Zimmerman, but it was OK because they are liberal and they were correctly trying to show what a despicable white racist Zimmerman was.

Katie Couric lied by creatively editing so it appeared the people she interviewed were not responding to questions about background checks (in the unedited taped, they responded immediately with good answers.  But it was OK because she is liberal and diligently working to get guns completely banned.

And who knows how many others that we don't know about.

If it weren't for all the liberals giving out fake news, we would never be seeing things like a claim that Hillary was running an underage prostitution ring out of a pizza shop.  If it wasn't for these, the media would never had been discredited enough for people to believe anything.  They literally have lost their moral authority to contradict because they lied first.  And in this instance, lying is exactly the right word.

Spin Zone / Mother's body / child's body
« on: December 02, 2016, 10:06:26 AM »
Breaking this off to a new thread because it's a hot one.

I'm there as well, what a woman does with her body and unborn child is all on her, the father, and her spirituality. I don't think the government should have any say in the matter.

I generally agree - but at some point it become's the child's body and the mother loses that right.  At some point a baby becomes capable of being an independent self-sustaining life, so does it matter whether they receive nourishment inside the mother's body or outside?  If their lungs are developed and they can, with great care, live outside the mother, then shouldn't they be considered a member of society at that point?

This gets into a deep spiritual situation and the issue is not my belief, your belief or even the mother's belief.  Once the child becomes capable of independent life, the mother's belief that it's ok to kill an unborn baby cannot override the baby's inherent rights as a human being.  As a society, we agree to defend each other against lethal aggression and there isn't someone in much more need than a defenseless child whose mother wants to kill it so isn't inconvenienced.

From a logic and philosophy standpoint, I think that if you disagree that an independent, self-sustaining life form has the right to live because it hasn't exited the mother's womb yet, then you also cannot justify your right to make that decision or even justify your right to exist.  If you do not value life then nobody should value yours.

Spin Zone / A prediction
« on: November 18, 2016, 07:55:08 AM »
An economic prediction

Think of holding a beach ball underwater.  It's not at the level it should be and the beach ball is a bit deflated due to the pressure.  But when you let it go, it shoots back to the surface and rapidly expands.  I think Obama's policies have been holding the country down and when they are removed, our economy will be like the beach ball, rising and inflating.  My prediction is that the first 12-18 months of Trump's presidency will be astronomically phenomenal in the financial sense.  The success will be the trending story as we ramp into the 2018 elections and Republicans will easily hold onto Congress if they don't screw it up trying to push personal agendas into it.

Remember that you heard it here first.

Spin Zone / Is everyone tired of the bickering?
« on: November 18, 2016, 07:53:57 AM »
Is everyone tired of the bickering?

I ask because it seems like everyone has worn themselves out or realized the futility of it all.  Here, there have been like 4 posts in the last 15 hours, which might be some kind of record for this place.  I've also noticed politics has disappeared from my facebook feed, which either means everyone has shut up or they got tired of having a "radical" moderate in their safe space and unfriended me.

I like what Tom Hanks said -BTW Mr Hanks is not a fan of Donald Trump.  He hopes that Trump is so successful that he will vote for his re-election in 2020.  I don't like this because I like Donald Trump, I like it because it is hopeful for the future.  It isn't cruel or unkind, it isn't intolerant, it isn't violent, it is positive and wants the best for the future.
