U.S.—Teachers at government schools have raised their concerns that the recent closure of their institutions will have a damaging effect on students. In particular, the nation's educators are worried that the longer the schools are closed, the more likely it is that students will begin thinking for themselves, learn life skills away from the government school system, and realize how much more they learn at home.
"We must reopen as soon as possible -- before they regain their ability to have independent thoughts," said New York 4th-grade teacher Ms. Jenny Mudd. "This is an urgent crisis. We realize we have to do our part to prevent the spread of the virus, but we must also prevent the spread of unapproved ideas. There's a balance there."

I realize that’s satire but it is true. When I pulled my kid out of high school to homeschool, she learned more in 4 hours at home than she did in the 10 hours (including travel time and lunch) at school plus homework at night so 11 hours of her day. AND she got all sides of the story, not just the liberal public school version. I taught her to think for herself. For example I gave her different history books, some portrayed the U.S. as a patriarchal colonizing source of all evil and some portraying it as the best most free nation that ever existed and told her to come up with her own opinion about it. I gave her science books that were all science and science books written from the point of view of creationism and told her to make up her own mind. I gave her Thomas Sowell’s basic economics and some other mainstream book on economics, I gave her a book about how the world is about to run out of fossil fuels and another about how the environmental alarmists are all full of shit and told her to read them both and decide for herself. In other words, I did the job the schools and universities are supposed to be doing but aren’t; teach her how to think critically.
