Title: What are you watching on streaming TV? Recommendations? Reviews? Share please!
Post by: Anthony on May 21, 2020, 11:49:09 AM
In another thread there is a discussion on TV shows.  Since our world has change and many stream through Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu and the other providers (all Progressive Communists by the way, but what ya gonna do?) I thought it would be a good idea to discuss what to watch.  There are so many options it is a daunting task.

I just got Amazon Prime about two months or so ago and so far I've watched.

Re-watched the HBO series The Sopranos - what can I say.  Just love the series.
Re-watched the HBO series "The Pacific".  Same thought as before.  Not nearly as good as Band of Brothers
Blow the Man Down - Amazon Prime, women led, dark comedy.  Loved it.   See I'm NOT a misogynist!  Well actually I am, but.......
Bosch - Amazon Prime cop show.  Very well done.
City Homicide - Australian cop show based in Melbourne.  Well done!  Australian babes are HOT!
Various documentaries can be found on all the wars and other stuff.
The Vikings - pretty good look at that society with a lot of drama and soap opera type stuff and lopping off heads.
Britannia - About the Roman invasion of England
Orphan Black - interesting with a lot of twists
Line of Duty - British Cop show.  Only watched a few episodes.  Mixed reaction so far.
Edit: Deadwood - What more can be said?  It is superb.

Thinking about watching:

The Wire
The Americans
Downton Abbey
Comrade Detective
The Man in the High Castle
Patriot
Being Human
Seberg???

Any recommendations, reviews, likes/dislikes???   What say you?

We watched Hunters, which we really liked.  We liked The Boys as well.  Liked the first season of Jack Ryan better than the second.  Love The Tick.  We LOVED Tales from the LoopGood Omens stars Martin Freeman and David Tennant, and is really good.  Deadwood is one of the best things ever made by anybody, and Boardwalk Empire is worth a look.   And of course The Expanse, which is sort of a Game of Thrones in space.

The Wire is one of the best shows ever made. Watching Downton Abbey for the 2nd time. I enjoyed The Man in the High Castle. Jack Ryan is good.

Don't really watch much TV. We have watched Jack Ryan and Mrs. Maisel.  Mostly watch movies since the theaters are still closed.

Skip to about the 43:00 mark and watch a rather explosive ending. Admittedly it is a 60 year old show, so probably not what Anthony has in mind,  but I became a fan of the series only in the last few years. I was too young to appreciate it when it first aired.

Game of Thrones on HBO was well worth subscribing for a month or two.

The Last Kingdom
is a must if you like Vikings.   It's based on the same historical events, the Viking massacre of Lindisfarne in the year 793, and the subsequent invasion of the British Isles, when it was a patchwork of kingdoms. David Dawson as King Alfred (the future Alfred the Great) gives an absolutely riveting performance.

Waco is good.

Dexter is satisfying, you can vicariously enjoy seeing very evil people get their just desserts.

The guy that plays Dexter also stars in Six Feet Under, which is a cute series. I think it's on HBO too.

Thanks.  I'll check some of them out, but I'm already a huge Deadwood fan and have seen all three seasons when it originally came out and then have watched it again over the years.  Forgot to include it on my list.  And I agree, it is one of the best shows on TV.

I remember Route 66 being on TV when I was really young, and I probably saw it growing up mostly in re-runs.  Some of my earliest TV memories.  That and Peter Gunn.  :)

I’m about to finish Blood Ties, another vampire series, which is okay, but compared to True Blood or Being Human(BBC) pretty lightweight, and I was looking for the next thing to binge. The Expanse looks intriguing.

Got caught up in Hannibal.  The series 2013-2015.  I wasn’t going to watch it because I didn’t think it could live up to Silence of the Lambs, but I’m pleasantly surprised. It’s a prequel kind of thing.

I was going to watch The Wire for the first time and it is now pay to view on Amazon Prime.  So I've been watching "The Man in the High Castle" and "The Americans".  Both pretty good.  Can you believe I've never seen "Silence of the Lambs?, but know the story.  May eventually check out "Hannibal".

Amazon is doing a lot of that. It’s got to be a result of the shutdown. There is so much demand now, it’s raising the price point.

It's annoying.  I figure I am paying for the service, just out of principal, I'm not going to pay and additional fee to watch something.

That’s me. They’ve overshot the price point with me, I will NOT pay extra. Too many alternatives like Netflix. Free market competition is grand. Until they all merge under google of course.

Let's not forget that your Amazon free two day shipping has been a thing of the past now.

I reluctantly signed up for Amazon Prime, mainly for the programming, but also the shipping benefits from Amazon.  I vowed it would be the only service I bought since I cut the cable many moons ago.  So no Commie Neflix, Hulu, nor others.  Yes I know Amazon is Commie also, Bezos, etc.  M-effers all!  But we're stuck!   The Left has a monopoly on Tech, Media, and now most of the rest of Corporate America.  Even my internet provider is Communist.  Comcast (Commiecast) who is backing, financing, and promoting Biden like they did for Obama and Hillary!  Verizon is no better.   >:(

I use Amazon so much the free shipping is worth it, and I hate supporting them, but they are a very convenient one stop shop, and like you said, ALL the online and tech related stuff is controlled by the overlords so what are you going to do? They have tweaked their customer service a lot in the past couple of years. When shipments are lost, they make it good. Until recently it was very difficult to communicate with them but they seem to have fixed that.

I have been trying to do more online shopping at Walmart.com and target.com and I even ordered toilet paper from RiteAid.com but none have the comprehensive reach of amazon. Even if I don't buy from Amazon, I go there to read reviews.

I do get most of my computer technology from Newegg though.  And there are some health products I get through other websites. I just reordered my Mercola sleep spray from mercola.com and noticed that my account has the records of all my orders back to 2013.  So anywhere you order online is probably keeping a database for you, and your credit card company also has records, and everything you buy can be tracked back with that, so I'm not sure it matters that amazon has all your info; it can be gotten if somebody really wants it.  I'm not sure about cryptocurrency though, maybe that is anonymous and they'd have to access the seller's data, or your own machine?  That's getting to a level of paranoia I haven't bothered to follow yet.

And with Amazon you can set your advertising preferences not to be "interest based". Although all that really does is make you feel less stalked. It doesn't stop anyone from using your data in other ways.

I've been watching a lot on Disney+, so much that I think I've nearly watched everything out there.  Ok, I haven't, but taking away the Disney Channel children shows, I would not be surprised to see that I've seen 70 or 80% of what they have.  I've even seen a lot of the gaggers like "Cadet Kelly" and "Tiger Cruise".

Recommended
High School Musical The Series - 6 or 7 show mini series.  Of course HSM1, 2 and 3.
For Star Wars fans, after the movies -
Most of the Marvel movies are on there now and it was interesting to watch them in chronological order and see the arc of the story over decades.
Anything you loved from your childhood.  The Apple Dumpling Gang.  Escape to Witch Mountain.  Herbie...almost all of it is here.

I loved The Americans. That was an outstanding show. I was sad when it ended.
