Title: Doctor killed by pack of wild dogs
Post by: Rush on May 08, 2020, 06:43:58 PM
What’s the takeaway here?  Don’t stop your car and try to rescue a pack of dogs? Don’t stop your car to pee by the side of the road? Are dogs taking over because there’s no traffic and no humans outside anymore?

She looked like a nice lady.   :(

The takeaway?  Be ARMED with both pepper spray, or at least a club/staff.  Of course a firearm would also be wise to carry on you person.  When I go for a hike or a bike ride, I have pepper spray and a firearm.  I've been chased by dogs before.  Pepper spray is good because it is non lethal.

Why did she get out of her car in the first place?   Never leave the safety of your car or home to confront something dangerous.

Pepper spray sucks because it gets everywhere and you will more likely get some on you. If you have never felt it before, you might not know how you handle it or how you will react. You could be in big trouble. I've seen people curl up in a ball and cry, and another who put it on their eggs because it did nothing to them.

I’m not sure a gun or pepper spray would have saved her, if she didn’t have it already in her hand when she got out of the car. I’m assuming she stopped to take the poor starving things to a rescue. Not realizing she was made of meat.

This, from 2009, a pack of a dozen wild or “feral” dogs killed an elderly couple. By “pack” I was picturing 4 or 5. But a dozen? Would a gun even save you? Would the noise of the first shot scare them off?

It happens 20 times a year in the U.S.? I didn’t know this was a thing.

Again, never leave the safety of your car or home to confront something.  Call 911 and have them send the police and/or animal control.  I used to go up to my friend's cabin in the middle of nowhere.  Coyotes and feral dogs everywhere.  When I walked my dog at night, I carried a Colt M4 (AR-15 LE6920) with the appropriate magazine.  When I'd shine the flashlight into the woods it seemed like a thousand eyes were peering back.  Never had a problem.  My point is, don't put yourself in unnecessary danger.
