I mean, we’re going to need fossil fuels for at least another 10 years!

Either they are coming up with a substitute for plastics, or the faces of female politicians will begin to melt off their skulls in 11 years.

We have centuries of clean, domestic fossil fuels and finding more ever day. No need for replacements.

DOLPHIN TRAINER

An elderly man rear ends a guy driving an expensive sports car.

Enraged, the guy hops out of his car and confronts the old man.  “Look what you did to my car” he yells.  You’re gonna give me $10,000 right now or I’m gonna beat you to a bloody pulp!”

“Oh my” says the old man, I don’t have that kind of money.  Let me call my son, he trains dolphins and he’ll know what to do."

"Dolphins", the other driver huffs, while rolling his eyes.  The old man pulls out his phone, dials his son and just as the son answers, the irate man snatches the phone away from the old man.

"So, YOU’RE a dolphin trainer, huh?  Well, your old man here just rear ended my car and I need ten grand right now or I’m gonna beat you AND your old man to a bloody pulp".

"I’ll be there in 10 minutes, says the voice calmly on the other end".

Exactly ten minutes later a jeep pulls up and a guy hops out and proceeds to pulverize the bully, leaving him in a bloody heap on the side of the road.

When he’s finished, he walks over to his father and says:  “For the LAST TIME dad... I train SEALS... NAVY SEALS... NOT dolphins”

I went to the courthouse for jury duty today.  The website instructions had said in all caps:  MASKS ARE REQUIRED.

There were over a hundred of us in the potential jury pool.  I only saw 2 wearing masks.  They were old sick looking people who both asked to be excused.  None of the sheriff’s deputies, bailiffs, clerks, or judges had a mask.

Spin Zone / Re: The case against DeSantis
« on: January 02, 2023, 07:56:08 AM »
By "return to normal" I mean return to the Uniparty.  It's a swamp, dragging us ever closer to totalitarianism RINO rhetorical protestations notwithstanding.

If you think DeSantis has a better chance of winning, maybe it's because he's more likely to become swampy and the Dems know it.  Yes his net worth has a LOT to do with it. Trump is un-bribe-able.  There is no one else positioned like that who has proven to be on our side.  Maybe Elon Musk but he's FAR from what Trump is and not eligible to run anyway.
But at the end of the day, being able to win a general election means literally everything.  Do you really think Trump can win a general election?  He’s more damaged now than he was in November 2020.  Right or wrong, it is what it is. I wouldn’t put $1 on a bet that Trump can get a fraction of the votes he got in 2020.  “Abandoning” (your term) Trump doesn’t mean not appreciating that he was the most conservative president in my lifetime. It means I believe with every bone in my body that he will never get more than the GOP base, or 1/3rd of the electorate. That’s not enough, so I can’t back his candidacy.

DeSantis appears to be the most Trump-like candidate out there. He’s not perfect, but no politician is.  But DeSantis has helped turn Florida from purple to red. He got 500,000+ more votes in 2022 than he did in 2018, and won with 60% of the vote. He is appealing to a lot of Floridians, with good reason.

I’m not buying into Lucifer’s pessimism that the GOP will never win another presidency. I think that’s defeatist, and I don’t counter quitters. I’ll quit when I’m dead, but not before.

Might have to switch ships. Might be a reference to changing parties?
I really doubt that.  I'm thinking he meant a smaller airplane.

Certainly seems an odd thing to get hot and bothered about, especially considering that Christians account for ~63% of the population and self-identified atheists account for ~3%.

I sympathize with the feeling of persecution but continue to point out the no one demands you to use CE or BCE. Maybe, just maybe, you are engaging in persecution of people of other faiths for NOT using BC and AD. There are dozens of calendar systems in use (e.g. Chinese) but for global coherence in dating other people have graciously adopted the Gregorian system and a common year 1. Is it too much to ask that you find accommodation in this one thing in the interest of consistent numbering of years?

If you want to see real persecution in action, try acting openly as an atheist in any public capacity. Up until a 1961 AD SCOTUS ruling the following were the law in the respective state constitutions (and are still on the books):

Arkansas
Article 19, section 1: “No person who denies the being of a God shall hold any office in the civil departments of this State, nor be competent to testify as a witness in any Court.”
Maryland
Article 37: “That no religious test ought ever to be required as a qualification for any office of profit or trust in this State, other than a declaration of belief in the existence of God; nor shall the Legislature prescribe any other oath of office than the oath prescribed by this Constitution.”
Mississippi
Article 14, section 265: “No person who denies the existence of a Supreme Being shall hold any office in this State.”
North Carolina
Article VI, section 8: “The following persons shall be disqualified for office: First, any person who shall deny the being of Almighty God.”
South Carolina
Article XVII, section 4: “No person who denies the existence of a Supreme Being shall hold any office under this Constitution.”
Tennessee
Article IX, section 2: “No person who denies the being of God, or a future state of rewards and punishment, shall hold any office in the civil department of this state.”
Texas
Article 1, section 4: “No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office, or public trust, in this State; nor shall any one be excluded from holding office on account of his religious sentiments, provided he acknowledge the existence of a Supreme Being.”

First, just to clarify, I wasn’t calling you or anyone else here a stupid idiot.  That was the generic “you”.

But you (actual you this time) are completely missing the point.  I don’t feel persecuted as a Christian.  I do not give two hoots about Christianity or atheism nor do I give two hoots about whether the naming convention has any relation to Christianity or not.  I feel persecuted as an old person who can’t learn new tricks!  All I’ve heard my whole life is BC and AD for whatever reason, maybe I’ve been culturally isolated in America.  Now it’s too late to change.  Every time I see BCE and CE it jars the hell out of me.  It’s unfamiliar.  Stop changing shit and get the fuck off my lawn.

Being non-binary doesn’t always mean you’re a felon, but when it does, it doesn’t reflect well on you being best qualified for the job.

I was recently interviewed by a nurse.  "Are you vaccinated??" She asked.  I thought for a minute and then

I said, "Against what?"

She cleared that up with, "Covid."

I replied, "Three Pfizers."

Hahahaha!  I would have said, “Yes, polio, smallpox, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, shingles, and those are the only important ones I can remember.”  She would have said “I meant Covid” and I probably would have said, “Well technically I’m not sure that’s a vaccine, it doesn’t seem to work very well.”

Actually, Trump started that ball rolling.  Their powder is in the flash pan.

https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-unflattering-information-florida-ron-desantis-2024-2022-11

I’d have to hear him say that with my own ears.  Not saying he didn’t say it, I’m saying I want to hear it myself to get the tone and context.  I don’t know why he would make preemptive attacks on DeSantis other than to intimidate him into not running in 2024, but DeSantis has made no signal he is going to run.  I want to know exactly why Trump thinks DeSantis is sanctimonious.  And why does he say such things if he says there is no tiff going on between them?  And he backed him and got him elected as governor of Florida unless I misremembered.  What did DeSantis do that made Trump turn on him?  None of this makes any sense unless I’m missing a critical piece of information.
