Spin Zone / The Schumer & Pelosi Show
« on: December 23, 2018, 07:52:47 AM »
As good of an article as I’ve read in a long time on the current state of affairs between the Democrats and the rest of us.

My favorite paragraph:

“The left is all about identity politics.  They assign all of us to a group -- racial, class, and/or all of their fabricated gender categories.  The right is all about individuals, their character, their talent, their contributions to society.  We do not care about skin color, economic class or sexual orientation.  We do care about good vs. evil, right vs. wrong.  This makes us quite villainous in the eyes of the left for whom everything is relative. For example, we do not think poverty causes crime, unlearned values of Western Civilization do.  Try to steal an election? It is moral if it takes out an opponent.  We are, it appears, the left vs. the right, very different on a neurological level.”

I bet good money I am far in better shape than you. I am a vegetarian, and I walk 6 miles a day for excercise. I am mentally awake, and morally straight. I try to help my students as much as I can. I gave a C- to a woman because she was 0.01 points away from from being flunked, and I couldn’t flunk her because she was so close. I had to flunk two guys who were supposed to graduate. I didn’t want to do so, but had to. It was up to them to learn, not me. But once I did it I hated myself so much all I could do was go home to drink.

Normally when I drink the rules are no more than one drink an hour, no more than three a night, and of course 8 hours bottle to throttle. After flunking two guys who were both going to graduate the only rule was keep the fucking glass full. The second time I’ve hidden from myself in a bottle, and the first was because I had to flunk a graduating senior.

I don’t need the damn Boy Scouts to figure out how to lead a good life. I figured that stuff all on my own.  What you guys will never get is some people don’t fit into your little fucking boxes and do just fine despite.  Wisdom is the ability to see beyond the lens of your own experience, something I doubt any of you will ever be able to do. And I truly and honestly pity you for it. Being able to see eye to eye with someone truly different from you is one of life’s Greatest pleasures.
Hey douchebag, asechrest was being nice and giving you the last line of the Boy Scout Oath.  You in turn chose to be your typical pompous asshole, only to further enlighten us on your pathetically weak mental status and why you had to turn to the drinking to hide from the results of doing what you felt was the right thing.

Feel free to once again threaten to not come back.  That’s your typical MO and you sound like a broken record. I’m sure two or three people will fawn over you not to leave, giving you the positive feedback you must not get in your real life.  The rest of us could not give a shit.

I enjoy reading all this “libertarian” crap.  And it’s just that, crap.  Might as well be called “Unicornism”.

Please point out one government on this earth that has a libertarian government.
Exactly. Up in an earlier post Jim rode your ass about illegal immigration, but said “as a libertarian” he didn’t support giving benefits to illegal immigrants or something.  As if an open borders advocate actually would have a say in the almighty benevolent US government giving freebies or illegals.

They ignore the unintended consequences.  Libertarians are the ultimate “drive by” political commentators.

The US has honest to goodness gosh grievances against the Chinese that were not addressed by the Short Fingered Vulgarian's Processor.  I do think the Mango Mussolini is going about it all wrong, though. I think the thing to do with the Chinese was to use back channels and fairly private communications to get the point across.  His brazen diplomacy by Twitter has caused Xi Jinping to loose face, and the Chinese are all about face.  He can't negotiate, he'll loose that much more face.  He has little choice but to retaliate, or he'll appear weak. But in retaliating he appears strong, and it gets good internal consumption, making him that much more popular.

Xi Jinping is ruler for life, which means the only way he's going to stop being ruler is if he dies.  If he appears weak those who would like to supplant him are going to try and arrange just that, and he knows it.  One needs to look no farther than Libya to see the fate of dictators who loose control of their fates, and no farther than Syria to see the lengths dictators will go to to keep from losing control.  I think these sorts of autocrats needs to handled carefully, something for which a Secretary of State and fully functioning Department of State can be a big help.  A pity Trump savaged the latter.
I’ve always wondered why America is supposed to give two shits whether or not a communist “leader” loses face, when you and your fellow socialists live for the day when you can get Trump and other Republicans to lose face. You could see the attempted set up with Chuck and Nancy in the Oval Office. They failed miserably, because they didn’t expect Trump to take responsibility for a partial government shutdown. But it is game on, 24/7, with the democrats.

Fuck the shit horn dictators. Lose face, kill yourself, I couldn’t give two shits.

I’m SO tired of the US being told we must conform to some foreign cultural standards, when the same is not offered to us.

I’m glad Trump doesn’t give a shit either. He knows EXACTLY how to negotiate.

Trump himself said he would happily own the shutdown in the name of national security. Of course he’s happy to give the Russians and Saudi’s a pass, but some poor schlubs trying to sneak in across our Southen border are a big threat.
Grow up. Trump is playing varsity ball in global international affairs, and you’re playing Stratego in your basement.

https://www.bonappetit.com/story/canned-tomatoes-are-better-than-fresh-ones

You've got to get good canned tomatoes. Whole, peeled, only salt as an added ingredient. You can use price as a guide at first, but you'll definitely want to make sure the price is born out in the flavor. San Marzano tomatoes are often very good. That site I posted a page or so back, varasanos pizza recipe, explores a number of types of canned tomatoes.

I'm a decent cook, but a terrible chef. I would struggle to imagine flavors and put them together in great, unique ways. But I have done some deep dives on certain dishes that I love, and I built recipes using combinations of others.

I make a good paella on my 18-inch paella pan on my Weber grill, for example.
Best paella I’ve had was at the Colombia restaurant in St. Armand’s circle in Sarasota.  Yum.

I have a local farmer where I buy as much of my produce as I can.  He has chickens, so I get brown eggs.  But he also usually has a selection of vegetables, and fruit in the summer and fall.  I get my tomatoes there as they actually have taste.  The best tomatoes I get, come from my neighbor who grows them.  They taste like real tomatoes.  Totally different from the grocery store.  I have no idea what they sell.
I built my wife 400sf of vegetable garden beds.  About half of that is tomatoes of different varieties, including heirloom tomatoes.  She cans, and last year canned 144 large jars of tomatoes. So if the zombie apocalypse comes, you’re all invited over for spaghetti.

Bullshit. I was outraged the day I read about it.  The President of the United States ignored US law and authorized murder against American citizens because it was easy.  That act reduced my respect for him more than any other thing he ever did.  Benghazi might have been a mistake, it might have even been incompetence.  But it wasn't premeditated.
A Stand Down order was issued by somebody, at a time when our men could have been rescued or the enemy defeated. That is not a mistake or incompetence.  It was a purposeful sacrifice of Americans for political purposes. Someone had to make that POLITICAL decision.

Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is the guy I was referencing previously.

So anything semi auto can be classified "military style", as it is based purely on cosmetics which can be widely defined.  So, Becky start with this one.  They certainly want to ban, and confiscate our LEGALLY OWNED, and responsibly used guns.
OR, prevent you from owning one in the first place.

Tucker Carlson interviewed an New York DEMOCRAT legislator who wrote a bill requiring someone who wants a gun permit to have to turn over all their social media passwords so they can examine your social media accounts to see if you are promoting anything that would deem you to be dangerous.

Who are the fascists again?

I figured the PilotSpin governing council was busy deliberating. LOL!
Ha!  We’re always drunk anyway, so “deliberating” is a relative term.

Actually we were at the ICAS Convention in Vegas looking to spend PS membership dues on hookers and blow.

Most anti gun people want to ban the scary black gun, but are ok with the "regular" looking gun. Guess what? They are the same gun, a semi-auto rifle that holds 15 rounds that can be shot surprisingly quick.
“Yea but, yea but, yea but ..... uh, with the pistol grip you can ‘spray bullets’.”

I hate ignorance.  Sadly, ignorant people vote.

They didn't, though they did say something about a militia.  I've never met a member of a militia.  Anyhow, like I said, calling assault weapons "sporting rifles" jus seemed a bit of a stretch.
They are more sporting rifles than anything else.  No soldier would take a semi-auto rifle into battle when an automatic or select-fire weapon is available.

The fact that they look like M-4s or M-16s are both cosmetic and functional. The design vastly minimizes recoil, making them easy and not fatiguing to shoot. The modern style permits complete customization.

A .556 round is underpowered and inhumane for deer. But I know people who hunt deer with an AR-10 in 7.62. AR-15s are excellent varmint rifles.

All of which is completely irrelevant. The term “Assault Rifle” is a made-up term that is used ad nausium by gun control proponents. A “Sporting Rifle” is much more descriptive and accurate.

^^^^^^^^^^I think you are over thinking it.  Acosta is not rebelling.  He is being intentionally disruptive to deny the President the ability to articulate his message and substituting his own message in an aggressive manner.  If Acosta wants to protest and rebel, he can do so on the air, on any street corner, or public square.  This is the Presidents Press Briefing.  It's his show.  Not Acosta's, nor CNN.  So I think your entire premise is BUNK.
I totally agree, which is why this lawsuit fails on First Amendment grounds.  Acosta is demanding a right TO BE HEARD.  That right doesn’t exist.

People falsely claim that the right of free speech is not absolute. Sorry, but it is. However, in doing so you must also accept the consequences to that speech, so the old canard about not being able to shout “Fire!” In a crowded theater doesn’t fail on limitations to the first amendment.  It fails because the consequences of such action may lead to physical harm and disruption to others.
