SAN DIEGO (AP) — A new bill in California would allow private citizens go after gun makers in the same way Texas lets them target abortion providers. Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday backed legislation that would let private citizens enforce the state’s ban on assault weapons. It’s modeled after a Texas law that lets private citizens enforce that state’s ban on abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected. “If Texas can use a law to ban a woman’s right to choose and to put her health at risk, we will use that same law to save lives and improve the health and safety of the people in the state of California,” Newsom said at a news conference Friday. Texas and other conservative-led states have tried for years to ban abortions once a heartbeat is detected, at around six weeks of pregnancy, which is sometimes before the person knows they are pregnant. But the states’ attempts have been blocked by the courts. But Texas’ new abortion law is unique in that it bars the government from enforcing the law. The idea is if the government can’t enforce the law, it can’t be sued to block it in court. That hasn’t stopped abortion providers from trying to block the law. But so far, the U.S. Supreme Court’s conservative majority has allowed the abortion law to stay in place pending a legal challenge.

As for the legislation you referred to, I can see how you can hold an abortionist guilty of breaking the law if abortion is illegal, but what laws are gun makers breaking?

They hate guns because they are FASCIST control freaks. People with guns are less easily controlled and SUBJUGATED. You live with and associate with Fascists. You should know that.

As for the legislation you referred to, I can see how you can hold an abortionist guilty of breaking the law if abortion is illegal, but what laws are gun makers breaking?
I think California banned “assault weapons”. So if someone buys one online and has it shipped in, I guess citizens can sue the manufacturer even though they’d probably be buying it from a third party.
In any case whether the defendant actually broke any laws is irrelevant. Companies and individuals would be tied up in lawsuits with the expense of defending themselves. And I don’t think it’s necessary to commit a crime to be sued in civil court.

All true, but I think the second sentence is backwards. People who are less easily controlled and subjugated tend to have guns. It's not the guns that make them less easily controlled. It's having the mindset that we (should) live in a free country where we can do what we want as long as it doesn't impact others. The problem is that many "others" think that feeling bad or offended is an impact. And someone enjoying life in a manner they don't approve of makes them feel bad and so should be banned.

Possibly poor phrasing on my part. People with guns, that are willing to use them to stop oppression are less easily subjugated.

Actually, things aren't all that bad any more. My FIL (bless his heart) passed away a few months ago. That means we don't have to suffer with the evil wicked step-mother-in-law. She was the big instigator. My FIL actually ran for US Congress as a Republican in the '70s. He converted after he retired at age 79 when he had to stay home with the wicked one. He used Sarah Palin as his excuse for converting. He hated her as much as today's liberals hate Trump.
And while my wife does have too many liberal tendencies, she is also pragmatic about some things. She is for energy independence. She is for dealing tough with China. She is generally pro-business. And she is probably smarter than anyone on this board. And she is an instrument rated pilot.
But she hates Trump. That started with the Pussy bullshit and then calling Carly Fiorina "Horse face" and even the way he insulted Republicans like Rubio.
