So maybe a remake of "Rambo" with a black Somalian woman cast in the lead?
How about a remake of "Dirty Harry" with a hispanic female lead? Or maybe a trans?
-
Never heard of her, she may be a great actress and be great in the role of the new 007, but this will still be the end of the franchise I think. 007 is James Bond, a white, womanizing, alcoholic male. Don't change the character just for PC sakes. Look at how bad Hollywood screwed up the Ghostbusters all-female lead remake.
-
This is why Hollywood is having very hard times, especially with movies. They have put the PC, Leftist, Progressive agenda over entertainment. It has become pervasive, and dominates the industry.
-
Is there no new material to make movies with anymore? Seems Hollyweird is only interested in doing remakes of remakes that were a remake of an original film.
-
I guess it depends on how the writers/directors use a different kind of character.
Consider how La Femme Nakita and Alias used a female main character for various missions.

I totally agree. But not only remakes, they are interested in re-characterizing and feminizing what used to be masculine behavior. It’s no accident they want to reverse the “toxic masculinity” in men.

^^^^^This. There are many examples of this in movies and TV today. Feminization, but also the over representation of LGBT, mainly Gay, Male individuals and couples to further feminize Men.

And making male leads bumbling idiots who can't survive without a woman ruling them.

But Agent 99 was hot, so I’d excuse her competence over Agent 86.
John Steed was no bumbler - nicely paired with Mrs. Emma Peel. Also very hot.

Yawn. Won’t be watching.

A dollar will get you ten that the women Bond is a lesbian who hates men with a passion.
So pathetically predictable.

Yet at the same time they are trying to make heroes of fake women by injecting a belief that they are more masculine than real men.

The Media, Entertainment Industry, Corporate America and Social Media is all about the ARTIFICIAL promotion of women and girls. The entire "Empowerment" movement has been active for a long time. However, they just don't falsely prop up females, the must bring down, and demonize Males.
Corporate Advertising now almost solely features women, girls, LGBT, and minorities in their ads. Check the ads for SUV's and other vehicles lately? All feature women, or women with their daughter(s). Most other advertising is the same except maybe fast food, and beer, although they now have large female representation.
Nothing wrong with portraying women, minorities and LGBT, however, their false over representation, and glorification is getting OLD. It seems they want to marginalize Straight, White, Males in society.

Exactly what everyone said when they made Dr. Who a woman. Yet here she is, and the show is better than ever. Whoever makes James Bond movies knows what they're about. If they think the lady can pull it off they're probably on to something.

Does Dr. Who have as big a following as James Bond? I don't know. I've never watched Dr. Who myself. I think the studio is trying to jump on the Wonder Woman/Captain Marvel bandwagon of having strong female leads. I think it will fail because those roles were already established as a woman lead, even though the original Captain Marvel was a man. I don't think it will work as 007 unless they completely rebrand the franchise, which will alienate the majority of the fans in the long run.

Dr. Who has been around longer, though it did have a long hiatus. It is immensely popular. It is possible that the producers are trying to hook into the current zeitgeist, though that can't be the only thing. These films take a long time to make, so by the time it comes out society might have moved on. This whole thing is pretty suspect anyway, since the last Bond flick helmed by Daniel Craig hasn't even come out yet.
I can't believe anyone would wager hundreds of millions of dollars (what it costs to produce and promote a Bond movie) merely for political correctness.

I can. All movies for the most part can be a crap shoot. Look at all the uproar over the past few years of the gender pay gap that seems to exist in Hollywood. They for sure will cast more females in a male lead to say they are fixing the problem.

Hollyweird has produced a host of movies that were financial failures, lost hundreds of millions. Networks like CNN and MSNBC are almost bankrupt promoting a fake narrative. Newspapers are folding because they only cater to one ideology.
Broadcast TV loses their asses producing series no one wants to watch, which in turn cost millions in lost revenue.
-
It helps that the current Captain Marvel is hot.

I think that Dr. Who is strong not because of its main character but because it has very good consistent writing and a tradition of rotating out the Dr. Who on a regular basis. Fans are used to transitioning to a new Dr. Who. Female Dr. Who? Why not?
Female James Bond? No. Not because I'm anti female. It's because I like my Bonds shaken, not stirred.

And they know it. That's why when they have a sure thing like a Bond movie (I doubt one has ever lost money) they tinker with it as little as possible. That's why I think this whole thing is suspect. But if they're doing it someone thinks it will work. I have my doubts, since the womanizing has always been part of James Bond's appeal. It sounds like she isn't going to be the focus of the film's action anyway. We'll soon see.

It will sink or swim depending on the quality of the movie. It could be great or horrible, doesn't matter if the lead agent is white, male, black, female, purple, androgenous, etc.

The fact remains that Ian Fleming’s character is dead, and this new female bond is bastardizing the franchise beyond recognition.

Agreed. The image of a slick guy, in a post WWII Cold War, driving an Aston Martin DB5, and carrying a Walther is now passé. Villains that want gold bars from the Nazis aren't cool anymore to the Left, and misogynist men, in a perceived man's world is now VERBOTEN.

I think it will work out fine with them except with a small sub-set of old white men. Women will love it. Minorities will love it. Even young white snowflake males will like it. And some of us old geezers will like it. As for me, I have no idea. I would need to see it first, and odds are I will never see it. I just don't go to many movies any more, unless of course, the female lead is young(ish), sexy and naked.

I won’t love it just because it’s a female. I like my heroes manly. That being said if it’s really good I’ll like it. I loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer and she’s female. But of course the best thing about her was when she hooked up with hot manly male vampires.

Give it time, they'll start remaking John Wayne westerns using either Rosie O'Donnell or Amy Schumer in the leads.

You mean lead COW? As in cowboy movies?

How about the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns? Aloof silent type chomping on a cigar. Yeah that would work with a female - not.
On the other hand, minus the cigar, maybe it could:

A number of gender bent rehashes have been attempted, I don't think any did as well as their male-dominated progenitors, some disastrously so.
-
Obviously, Men bring a totally different persona to a character. Men and women are different it can't be helped. However it seems the Media and Entertainment today want to make it seem Women can behave just like Men in just about all areas. Unrealistic, silly, and condescending. Yes, it is fantasy, and I view it a such, but really, really far fetched fantasy. I believe in Hobbits more than I believe women can be as strong and effective in Men in purely physical areas.

The Ghotsbusters remake was awful. Melissa McCarthy was just terrible in it and Leslie Jones character was just written very poorly. Kate McKinnon was about the only thing that saved it. Oceans 8 was pretty good. But I also have a thing for both Sandra Bullock and Anne Hathaway, so my opinion may be biased.
Just read that they are doing another Ghostbusters for next year, but this time it will be 2 males and 2 females as the main characters. The kicker is they are kids. Not sure about this.....
