Title: Everything causes cancer?
Post by: President-Elect Bob Noel on October 07, 2020, 05:11:13 AM
So I'm just perusing a website, locking for suitable cabinet hinges and noticed this warning:

"WARNING: Drilling, sawing, sanding or machining wood products can expose you to wood dust, a substance known to the State of California to cause cancer. Avoid inhaling wood dust or use a dust mask or other safeguards for personal protection. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov/wood. "

I just love the "known to the State of California" statement.

I would love to see the science behind "knowing" that wood dust causes cancer.... because we know that the people in la-la-land are all about the science.

wouldn't it be easier for the "State of California" to list the things that they don't "know" causes cancer?

Effing lawyers.

while lawyers have earned a lot of disdain, I'm not sure we can blame for the lawyers for this...

Well, their would be no frivolous law suits without the Plaintiffs so I agree.  Progressive, idiot California plaintiffs.

Stay out of Cali and you’re good to go.

Correct--although I'm sure lawyers were involved (disguised as legislators) proposition 65, which is the root of this mess, was directly voted into existence by California voters 63 to 37.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986_California_Proposition_65

The wiki article includes a link to the current list of evil chemicals.  It includes marijuana smoke, alcoholic beverages, aspirin,  mustard gas, nickel, nitrous oxide, testosterone and wood dust.  It also includes hydrogen cyanide, the gas used in the California gas chamber, so if you're breathing that, please be careful because you could get cancer.  Same with the mustard gas.

Avoid wearing face masks, which, in about 10 years, will be known to the State of California to cause lung cancer from breathing the fibers.

You should probably wear a respirator when kicking up lots and lots of sawdust.  Small particles in the lung can indeed drive carcinogenesis.  To say they cause cancer is a complete misnomer, they simply don't.  What they can do is drive inflammation, which involves cell proliferation.  If there are mutations that allow unchecked proliferation, the cells can get started down the proliferative pathway through the inflammatory process.

I hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope no one reading this smokes cigarettes, cigars or pipes.  These things are nutty cuckoo bad for you.  Every time you smoke a cigarette it damages your lungs. The damage can never ever be fixed.  Anyone found smoking in the confines of the Steinholme is assumed to be on fire and treated accordingly.

By the way, the inflammatory process that results from inhaling particulates also damages your lungs.

Those last two pictures were a couple in their 40s.

I can't understand why people smoke, but then some people don't understand why I drink booze and fly in small airplanes (not at the same time though).

How bad is decades of sucking down avgas fumes? To each his own, I say

Can't disagree, but I honestly don't know anyone who spends all day sniffing avgas.  If you do you should tell them to stop immediately.

For every hundred year old smoking and loving life there are numerous younger cancer patients, and lots of dead people.  I really hope to Odin you're not sufficiently cognitively challenged to think smoking isn't bad for you.  I wouldn't be at all surprised, but I still hope not.

Just showing, once again, how the liberal ideology is all about controlling others.  You're really good with that, a perfect example.

It's not up to me to control what others do, as I believe in personal choice.  If someone wants a cigar, that's their choice.

When George Burns was in his 90's he appeared on "The Tonight Show".  As he sat in his chair smoking his White Owl, Johnny asked him "How many of those do you smoke in a day?" to which George replied "I dunno, eight or more".....

Johnny said "So, does your doctor have anything to say about that?"

George took a puff on his cigar, thought for a second and said "I dunno, he died a long time ago"...............

I guess you really are that cognitively challenged.  Oh well, Darwin at work.  A pity others have to pay for your self-induced medical expenses.  Enjoy your smokes.

Is smoking the only self-induced medical expense that is shared?

Reading comprehension is definitely your weak spot.    Please show me in my post where I claim I smoked?

Again, you want to control the actions of others, whereas I don't.   If someone wants a cigar, that's their business, not mine.

Since you are saying trying to get others not to smoke you calli t tyranny.  I assume you do, or you wouldn't object so vehemently.  You are so full of yourself and such an idiot that you don't realize that I'm trying to get people to make intelligent choices, and not telling them what to do.  Obviously a moron like you can't tell the difference.

Moreover, those who insist on their smokes despite incredible evidence to the harmful nature of said smokes use my financial resources to treat their self induced medical problems.  And cancer care is expensive indeed.

Of course people should have the freedom to indulge in stupid self-destructive activities.  I've never promoted the idea of outlawing cigarettes.  I just wish we collectively didn't have to pay for their cancer treatments.  Just doesn't seem fair.

Please go back in this thread and show us where I called it tyranny.

Again, reading comprehension is not your strong point.

You are so full of yourself and such an idiot that you don't realize that I'm trying to get people to make intelligent choices, and not telling them what to do.

Oh, you're just trying to get them to make intelligent choices........ right.  And what makes you the arbiter of intelligent choices?  Again, the liberal ideology is people clearly aren't intelligent enough to make their own decisions, so therefore government should do that for them.

Obviously a moron like you can't tell the difference.

Another liberal trademark.  Hurl insults instead of making a cognitive argument.   ;)

Moreover, those who insist on their smokes despite incredible evidence to the harmful nature of said smokes use my financial resources to treat their self induced medical problems.  And cancer care is expensive indeed.

But offering "free healthcare" to anyone and everyone won't affect your financial resources?

Of course people should have the freedom to indulge in stupid self-destructive activities.  I've never promoted the idea of outlawing cigarettes.  I just wish we collectively didn't have to pay for their cancer treatments.  Just doesn't seem fair.

I wish we didn't have a political ideology trying to convince everyone of "free healthcare" for everyone and anyone, citizen or not.

But under the "free healthcare" scheme, the government can simply deem lung cancer as a non treatable ailment and instead offer pain reliever to those affected.

After all, government should make that decision, right?

Clearly I'm a moron.  How is "getting people to make intelligent choices" different from "telling them what to do" when those "intelligent choices" are what you want them to do?

Drinking.

Driving badly / accidents

Eating poorly

Pretty much, being an American it seems like.
