Title: Top Republicans talking up Paul Ryan as nominee

I believe the RNC would be stupid enough to try this.  Maybe Ryan could get Jeb as his VP?   Either way it paves the way to a Hillary victory.

Not that I endorse the idea of the RNC appointing a nominee with out putting him through primary meat grinder, we could do worse than Ryan (eg: Trump, Cruz or Kasich).

As much as I have  hated watching the circular firing squad, it did provide a pretty thorough vetting process; something I wish obama had gone through.

I can see the RNC doing this as well. Are there any polls out there showing a head to head of Ryan and Hillary? I'd be curious to see what that looks like in comparison to Trump or Cruz.

nddons, establishment aside, how do you think people from Wisconsin would react to this? Would they support him?

If the nominee is not Trump or Cruz, I will need to see who it is before I decide if I can support him or not. The chances seem to be increasing that it won't be Trump or Cruz if it goes to a contested convention.

Ryan became the Speaker then turned around and gave Obama a gift with the huge budget.    So far he's been just another Boehner.

No, Trumpy's laying down a solid gold road for Hillary.

I never understood that and I never heard an explanation for why that happened.  But in my defense, that was a time that I was really busy and had little time to follow the news.  Did he present any justification for that?

Good question. While the state loves Paul Ryan, there is some backlash against him since his 2012 VP run, and his actions over the last two years. His failure to wield the power of the purse is personally frustrating.

However, after what we conservatives have done in this state to bring in a conservative governor and legislature, fight against the radical leftists, the partisan Governmental Accounting Board, the federal and state lawsuits against every major reform signed by Walker, the recall elections, etc., you have a very sophisticated Republican voting block. Because of what we went through, I think we are more sophisticated than those in most any other state.  And because of that, I don't see Wisconsinites embracing the GOP pulling shenanigans such as this. I think the support for Cruz is genuine, and not an anti-Trump argument.

Today, Wisconsin supports Cruz, and would support him strongly in the convention. However, in the very unlikely chance that the RNC chooses Ryan at the convention, after being initially pissed off, the state would rally behind their home town guy. I don't think we would stay home and pout because "we weren't treated fairly" to use a Trumpism.

And that's another reason why I can't see Ryan becoming the nominee in any way, notwithstanding that it simply can't occur the way the rules are written today, and it is delusional that Trump and Cruz delegates would rewrite the rules to allow this to happen.

But it gives Rush, Coulter, Hannity, and Savage something to get excited about.
