Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday announced a dramatic drop in state income tax revenue of $2.8 billion, which he says will prompt him to revise his 2019-20 budget and reconsider spending on schools, health care and repairs to roads and bridges.

Cuomo, a Democrat, blamed the shortfall on a federal tax plan backed by Republican President Donald Trump. Cuomo said the law's cap on deductions for state and local taxes at $10,000 was to blame and suggested it is, anecdotally, triggering high-earners to leave New York.

“At this point there is no doubt that the budget we put forward is not supported by the revenues,” Cuomo said at a State Capitol news conference. “It’s as serious as a heart attack.”

Cuomo said he’s not certain what areas might need to be cut, but said the biggest spending areas now are education, health care, infrastructure and another phase-in of a previously approved middle-class tax cut.

Of course it's Trumps fault . I'm sure that the state losing over 48,000 people from 2017-2018 has nothing to contribute to it.

But that is Trump's fault too.

Notice that the things to be cut are the ones most likely to piss off the sheep.  I'm surprised that he isn't proposing to cut police and fire services.

They obviously need to raise taxes more.

I used to live in NY, taxes on top of taxes. Then I got smart and took a much higher paying job in a much lower tax state. Goodbye NY, don't miss you a bit!

Here's an idea.  Maybe N.Y. could build a wall around the State to keep the millionaires and billionaires from escaping.  Then they could force them to pay their "fair share".

That's what communists (redistribution of wealth) have to do. It doesn't work without forced participation which is simply a form a slavery.

Ever notice you don't see people fleeing capitalist countries to go to socialist countries?   ;D

I know some people who flee socialist countries to come to the U.S. and then bitch that we aren't socialized enough.

Probably because 1) They are used to socialism and can’t quite let go of its allure and certain aspects of it even if they acknowledge it does not work, and 2) See #1.

That.

It's also like those seeking "asylum" from a Central American country, standing at our border waving their country's flag.   If their home country is so bad, why are they protesting us while waving their flag?

Isn't that what invading armies do?

I also know people who move from states like NY, NJ, CA, to escape high taxes, and restrictive government, then bring it with them, and try to transplant that same idiocy in their new state.  It is pure madness.

North Carolina and Virginia come to mind, they're populated by and run like Yankees.

EDIT: Lets throw Maryland in there as well.

Well, MD, and NOVA are run by Leftist DC, so populated by either government workers, or government contractors who just want to grow government, and get paid on the taxpayer dime.  Very self serving.  But, yes the South is becoming more Yankee-fied, and that is a bad thing.

I saw it when I live in Colorado.  People from California flooded the state to escape high taxes, and high cost of living.  So what do they do?  Vote exclusively for Far Left Democrat candidates.  So what do we get?  More ridiculous gun control laws, legalized Pot, a Gay Governor, and more Far Left public policy.

Same thing is going on in Austin right now.   Drive through there and you would swear you're back in California.

And that scares me.  If TX, and FL go Democrat we are toast.

Yes, we are toast unless the urban Democrats have an epiphany.  Jordan Peterson says that conservatives and liberals test differently in certain personality characteristics.  I am certain there are a lot of Democrats who actually have conservative personalities but don't pay attention to politics and so don't know it. The black walkaways are the most glaring examples; those who say, "I've always had conservative values but just automatically voted Democrat because that's what all my family and friends have always done."

I think the only chance this country has to remain a two party system is if a lot of Democrats wake up and realize their party has been hijacked by the radical left, and that that doesn't represent them.  It's hard to see how that's going to happen though as long as the media and the educational system is so one-sided.

Not sure which North Carolina you're referring to, but the elected officials are pretty much long term residents and most were born here.  They aren't anything like Yankees.

If you're thinking taxes, that's because the state legislature here was controlled by Democrats for 50 years before 2010. After the Republicans took control in 2010, they cut taxes and NC's highest marginal rate now is only 5.25%, one of the lowest top rates in the country.

Now Virginia - I'm convinced they were a concession to the North for losing The War.  The North took everything north of Richmond and turned it into  Yankee-town.
