Watching it live on C-SPAN at work. Desperate people taking desperate measures. Pathetic.

I have to go back and think about all SCOTUS appt hearings in history. In all the history of the US never has anyone been so abrupt and politically infuriating than Harris was today.
If the senate had any balls at all, they would censure her. It does not as a body have the balls to do it, and that is the worse for us as a nation. We will not begin the descent into anarchy in our houses of govt like the Brits, French, Italians, etc. Harris was playing for the audience(they all were) and she was out of order in all cases. Contemptible is the most charitable explanation I can give.

Purely political theater today. All of those complaining about documents have already decided to vote no. In the long run, all Rs vote yea and most ads vote nay except those in close races. Enjoy the theater.

I'm glad we won't have McCains Anti-Trump vote to aid the Democrats again.

All those complaining about documents seem to have conveniently overlooked that the lawyer who is making the call to not release documents is being directed by former president Bush. Trump actually has nothing to do with the DOJ lawyer. Remember, this is the DOJ that the leftists are applauding for being independent of the president?
Pure and irrational political bigotry.

Paying people to get arrested, for show. Repugnant. This actually happened in our town a few years ago when police officers shot a crazed and violent Hispanic. He’d been terrorizing the neighborhood and the overwhelming response to his demise was relief. But the paid protestors arrived to sing his praises and make claims of innocence, and police racism. Three officers, two of them Hispanic! Eyewash is all that matters, not veracity.
I hate that this deceptive crap goes on in our beautiful republic.

The Democrats know they don't have the ability to stop the confirmation. But what they can do is show their base that they're doing something and use it as material for the mid-terms.

Chuck Grassley needed to strap on a pair, use his gavel to shut Kamilla and company up, evacuate the chamber of all members of the public, and get on with the business at hand.
Grassley and Hatch lost control badly.

Beyond that, the committee has received more documents for this nominee than the last five nominees who were confirmed.

As you know, when talking about a damned, dirty, republican, the only thing that matters is the accusations.
Facts are soooo last week.

Can't do that. Rules require that senate business on constitutional matters be public. All he could do is go after his peer in the senate. The people who were protesting in the gallery were handled but Grassley was too afraid of all Dems to take her on for intemperance and interference. I'm sure he was afraid of the headlines for 'badgering the minority woman senator who was just trying to do her job of protecting the people from Kavanaugh' or some horseshit like that..

This guy is making some sort of statement at the Kavanaugh hearings. It may not be the statement he intended, though.

I wonder if his name is Dick? If so - well, he's aptly dressed.

I would think C-SPAN gavel to gavel coverage would cover the senate rule. Further, I would think there is a clause to evacuate the chamber in the event that disruptions are disrupting the Constitutional business of the committee.

Nope. 1st A. Right to petition govt for grievances without fear of punishment or reprisal. C-SPAN is push technology, and only meets half of the required comm effort. There's a case back in 88 or something about that. The senate rules were amended so that it requires 'open forum' for business in front of the public. The public disruption of constitutional business crosses the line of 'petition' and works its way into 'sedition', although there are no cases of sedition which have been successful except a brow-beaten author back in colonial times. Anyway, the hearings have to be public, and can't be simply televised to meet the requirement.
Again, I have no problem with the gallery, there are regulations in place to stop the disruptions. The problem is the liberal senators.

It is obvious the Democrats just use these things for personal political gain for either reelection, or higher office. AKA Corey Booker.
