Maybe it varies by area. My sister watched a lot of renovation in her neighborhood in NC and told me, “The Mexicans do the roofing, the blacks do the framing, and the whites do the plumbing and electric.”  Just her observations but it seemed the same here when our neighbor built their house.  Before anyone screams racism, these job choices are the workers’.  The contractors will hire anyone who is qualified and shows up not drunk.

We still have plenty of lazy white people here, don't get me wrong. You still see Mexicans on construction crews here, but they are still mostly working the large corporate farms. Cedar Point amusement park, about 15 minutes from me, is starting their summer hiring. 5000+ people. They hire a lot of people from Europe for the summer and have their own dorms, too. They can't get enough locals to staff it anymore.

I suspect the reason for not cracking down on companies hiring illegal aliens is that if they do, and companies are forced to pay Americans American wages, prices will rise by a lot creating unhappiness among the people with whomever is the current political regime. If they can even get Americans to lower themselves to picking crops and shingling roofs.

I live in a large farming area. My house is less than 100 yards from 100s of farmed acres, some of it farmed by my extended family. Across the street from the tomato farm is a company that makes the majority of aluminum cans used in North America, and they are expanding. And the city next to me is building a large data center. A hard working American near me doesn't need to pick crops if they don't want to and unless it is the family business. And I don't think there was 1 non American who re-shingled my roof 4 years ago. I live in a very unique part of Ohio.

So why aren't the being prosecuted for hiring illegal aliens?

Don't know. It's a Canada owned company, so they probably paid their dictator loving PM to beg Biden and the DOJ to leave them alone? Honestly, we don't have any problems with them, and they keep to themselves. It's Obama's sons from Detroit and Cleveland that come to the amusement park and indoor waterparks that cause the problems around us.

In 1968-69 I worked at an evergreen nursery. Every summer a group of migrants came to the nursery and worked through the summer and then went back to Mexico for the winter. The nursery actually had housing for them.

There is a large corporate owned indoor tomato grow operation in my town a few miles from my house. They have dorms and a soccer field for the migrant workers.

Hungry people will revolt.   Hunger is a powerful persuader.

They didn't revolt in the Soviet Union; they didn't revolt in North Korea; they didn't revolt in many other countries over the past 100 years where estimates around 100 million people died due to starvation.

If you can stomach it, go to democratic underground for a laugh. Those things over there are losing it more than normal. It's great

When I moved from WI to OH I went from 1400 to 3200 sq ft. And I paid less in OH for what I sold in WI and with less property taxes, too. Gotta love the red states.

Me too, we had interest rates around that. There seems to be a difference now though. Young people seem unable to afford to buy a house.  But my husband and I could when we were young, even with those interest rates. Is it that the prices are higher than they were back then (adjusted)?  Is it that the young people aren’t earning as much?  Is that because fewer women worked back then? (Dumping women into the workforce created more supply and lowered salaries and wages?)  Or is it because they aren’t marrying and are trying to buy homes by themselves?

There’s a different feel this time around.

You weren't spending money back then on the newest iphone, high speed wifi, multiple streaming services, starbucks, etc. It's a spending/saving problem, not an income problem.

I believe the opposite of what I'm told by the Feds.

As you should. It's not illegal for a fed to lie to a citizen, except with certain exceptions.

Well cocoa powder and coffee, that’s considered mocha, I think. Nothing wrong with that.

It was still cold.

I was never in the military but years ago I would buy cases of MREs for emergency preparedness.  Some came with tiny little bottles of Tabasco sauce in certain ones, like with the chili or spaghetti.  They were so cute!  Some were actual military surplus and others were civilian MREs.  Can’t remember which ones came with the tiny bottles of Tabasco but I loved those.  That was later than Vietnam so I’m thinking you had a bigger bottle to carry around and didn’t get a teeny one in an individual meal.

I eventually switched to dehydrated food for emergencies, because long shelf life.  I wonder if the MREs still have the little glass Tabasco bottles?  Now I want to buy a case.

Every MRE I ate from the 90's until now had Tabasco. The bottles were replaced by squeeze packets I believe. You can still buy the tiny bottles in a 6 pack at stores like World Market. I get a pack for my wife for her Christmas stocking every year. I will amend my post from earlier about not consuming coffee if not in liquid form. I forgot I used to take the old MRE crackers and break them up. Then I would add a cocoa powder packet, sugar, creamer, coffee packets, and some water and mix it up into a pudding like substance. It was something different and a nice little pick me up during a dull day.

what part of "too raunchy to post" was not understood?

Are you a Turtle?

It's less not understanding and more not caring. It's a joke, not a dick. Don't take it so hard.

That works.  I can think of another but it’s too raunchy to post.

Black and in your mouth?

I like my coffee line my women also. Hot and BLACK.

As much as I love coffee, I hate it unless it's consumed in a hot, liquid form. I hate iced coffee, coffee ice cream, coffee flavored anything. Just one of those things. 95% of my coffee is black.

Mmmm.....coffee. I usually cut myself off after 3 cups and 10:00 am. But today I had a cup around 4:30. And I like my coffee how I like my women; hot and wet.
