That's Florida for you!

At the end of that video, I saw this:

Jeff and Stan should have a ball with this one!

I've wanted to do that a time or two... motorcyclists can be such assholes! Same with bicyclists. It seems if you put a human being on two wheels, they feel they can do whatever the hell they want on the road and you had better watch out for them and get out of their way.

However, I don't want to go to jail, so I grind my teeth. In fairness, people in cars are assholes too, just the folks on two wheels make a point of it regularly. SOP.

You guys should love bikes.  Every biker is one less car on the road.  They use up less of your roads and less of your gas.  They can relieve traffic and leave more room for you to park.

If only that were all true.
Around here, the Harleys putter around at 5mph under the speed which makes for a lot of rolling roadblocks.  IF there are two lanes, they ride side by side blocking both lanes.
They take up full parking spaces, on purpose.
The jap bikes zip in an out of lanes and cut you off and make you slam on the brakes.
Then they have the gall to demand that we look out for them.  They need to look out for themselves.

Thank your local govenments for this. I've pretty much given up on parking multiple bikes in a metered space after N-1 bikes parked in the space all get parking tickets. Yes, they want one vehicle per space, so they can collect more money. Same thing in most private parking garages, even if we get four bikes in a space they still demand 4 spaces worth of fees. So fug it, if I'm paying for the space, I'm taking it.

Don't even get me started on filtering at lights or lanesplitting, only California is enlightened enough to allow things like this that ease traffic.

Most of the parking complaints I have are at the grocery store where parking is free, but they take up a full space.  I guess I could blame the store for not having smaller motorcycle spaces.

And the Harley riders I know blame the cops for stopping them if they go 1 mile over the limit, or run a yellow light.  There might be some truth to that, but I don't buy it.

You know, it's really hard to please people. At grocery stores I've parked in the smaller white striped end areas that are big enough for bikes, but not cars. And people yell at me, "Hey, that's not a real space, you shouldn't park there." And they're right, it isn't a legit space although it suits the situation perfectly. So, I park in spaces, mainly so those upset with me parking in the end zones don't kick the bike over or otherwise jack with it.

And this is why I don't lane split or filter at lights, even though that leaves more space for more cars to get through every light cycle. People get really mad when they think you're cutting to the front and can't see the forest for the trees.

Bullshit. Those big clots of Harleys a lot of the time are Dr's, lawyers, and other professionals who step out of their Lexus, put on a black vest, and are suddenly Billy Badass. You won't find me or my riding group holding up cars, we're the ones moving along at a good clip.

Lots of subcultures among those who ride motorcycles, you can't paint them with a broad brush.

Unfortunately, utterly true.  People only see what they expect, folks rarely notice the unexpected.  No one expects motorcycles.  I admonish new riders to consider themselves invisible, and consider all drivers as would-be murderers who will try to kill them on a daily basis.  Its way closer to the truth than I like.

Oh, and motorcycle is on a par with GA for danger.  Think about that, GA is the most dangerous activity imaginable.  Going to high altitude in ancient aircraft with potential bad weather, malfunctions, and all the other things that can go wrong.  And to actually deliver oneself and one's pax to safety takes the greatest feat of skill of all.

And motorcycles are just as dangerous.  The only amelioration comes when you take alcohol out of the bike statistics, and at that point it becomes much safer statistically.

I'm not a rider, but I can't believe that would be true. The "Big Sky" notion notwithstanding, I think a lot more riders are killed in motorcycle/car collisions which would skew the statistics in favor of bikes being more dangerous than GA flying.

Statistically it is utterly true.  Like I said, take the alcohol out of the bike statistics and bikes get safer.  Thing is, the main sort of accident that gets bikers is auto collisions.  Absent alcohol, it is a bit unusual for bikers to eat it all on their own.

In an airplane all you have to do is fly into bad weather, or have something break at an inopportune moment.

But taking alcohol out of the equation is a major skew.

In general (no, not always), many bikers often drink and drive.  Come to Daytona Beach during Bike Week and watch.  Very few pilots drink and fly.

If you are going to take alcohol out of the equation, then you should take mechanical failure out of the equation.

Had a great ride Sunday.  Hope others were able to get out and bust a few bugs on two wheels.

Got out for rides both Saturday and Sunday mornings, although the 2nd half of the Sunday ride was pouring.

Yep, I took a motorcycle safety course a few summers ago, and that was their main message.  Don't drink and ride.  Also, take stupid pilot tricks like fuel starvation and VFR into IMC out of the equation, and you lower the odds even much further.

Aquabike sprint on Sunday,  1/4 mile swim and 10.5 mile bike ride,  had to clean a few bugs from my teeth because I couldn't stop smiling on the bike, even in the pouring rain.

Agreed. It should be mandatory that every operator of a two wheeled vehicle take a... no, two chill pills before using the public roads.

Then the Harley riders would just stop and take a nap on the road.

I'm fine with that as long as it's on the shoulder.

At work, we dispatchers used to be able to park our bikes up in the shaded 'garage' area next to the patrol cars.  The new powers that be at the PD have decided that's for PD employees only and us dispatchers will have to park our bikes in the already over crowded parking lot.  fine.  But now we have PD employees demanding that we share spots. hahahahahahahahahahaha Nope.  its a great thing, 5 bikes taking up 5 spots. you don't like it? Complain to management.

I spent three weeks of a five week vacation riding around northern Thailand on a motorcycle this past january.  It was an amazing thing. Once I got used to the seemingly 'free for all' that is Thai roads, I felt safer riding there than I ever have here in the states.  As an ex pat explained to me: "Every person that drives a car here started out on a bike.  They know the bikes/scooters are there, and they leave enough room for them to get around."

The drivers went out of there way sometimes to give us enough room to squeeze through, seeing as we were on 'big bikes' (Honda Forza and Honda CB500X).

I wish that people here were more like them.  Granted, I never saw dipshits on sport bike doing wheelies on the highway or large herds of slow moving cruisers, but the "can't we all just get along" attitude was nice.
