Now I understand! Putin is irrational and a fascist, but this explains all the baggage he carries that is making him do this. It is really worth the time to watch. But if you just won’t I’ll try to summarize. But really you’d be better off NOT reading my summary but to watch this for yourself. I can’t do it justice.
Russian identity involves a destiny. But she hasn’t realized her destiny yet and indeed can’t even articulate what it is but it has to do with being a great imperialist power. It is not communism, Putin isn’t a communist, and Putin hated Lenin (a surprise to me). Lenin and the communist revolution was a western experiment on Russia. This caused resentment in Russia, but likewise when the Soviet Union fell, Russia was being pressured by the West to become a liberal democracy. This was another experiment on Russia by the West. The West has the idea that history is progressive toward a global unity. Russia doesn’t buy into that, but feels threatened by it, or at least that is Putin’s delusion. (In reality the younger generations in Russia do want to integrate with the West, at least to an extent.) Of course I can understand being wary of “great reset” globalism. If that’s Putin’s issue he has a point, however, his way of authoritarian rule is as bad or worse.
Another YouTuber recently surveyed Russians on the street asking if they were communist. 98% said emphatically “no”. Only 2% said yes. Russia never was communist at heart but has felt derailed from its destiny for more than a hundred years now. Putin wants the Soviet Union back not because he is a communist, but because he is a fascist dictator imagining that he is “saving” Russia’s core identity. Putin feels Russian identity is expressed in himself, which I can say looks a lot like grandiose narcissism, but this video gives the background and context of how Putin got there.

The FJB administration goaded and pushed Russia into this war. Had they had left it alone, we wouldn't be in this mess today.
