looking through the PTS it looks like doing your MEI as your initial FI might actually be a tad easier ?
opinions ?
background - 1600 TT 1480 Helo CRH-I and PSEL, building FW time and adding A-I & CMEL for purposes of applying at Regional airline, need to do 25 hours multi engine anyhow might as well do CFI while at it...
-
Being an initial CFI I would not count on it being easier.
-
I thought I was clear but I meant purely from what maneuvers you have to do. I realize everyone wants to make a big deal out of an initial FI.
-
I'm not a CFI (so that disclosure is out of the way).
Is the deal with the "initial" CFI one that you have (almost always) to do that with an FAA Inspector, and not a DPE?
-
I'm 99% sure you can do it with a DPE.
Not sure if its an option you get to choose.
I think it depends a lot on FAA inspectors qualifications and availability. I would have done my Helicopter Instructor with a DPE as he was the only Bell 47 qualified DPE/Inspector in all of the Birmingham district, for example.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable knows for certain about how or why.

You need to contact your local FSDO and ask them.
