Title: Independence Day
Post by: EppyGA - White Christian Domestic Terrorist on July 03, 2021, 06:32:48 AM
Wondering what everyone is doing with their extra sixteen cents they have for their Independence Day celebration tomorrow.  Mine will be going in my gas tank to help make up part of the ninety-five cents difference in the cost of a gallon of gas over last year.

The link is to a letter that John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail on the July 3rd, 1776.

My wife rented a bounce house for the neighborhood block party and my son's 4th birthday. So glad Biden made it affordable!

We will just eat unhealthy hot dogs on buns. Well, they are Hebrew National so maybe the dogs aren’t too unhealthy. The bread always is. After dark we will step outside and watch the neighbors set off fireworks then I will go to sleep with fireworks noise which I find comforting.

It is raining wall to wall here this weekend, and then the tropical storm/hurricane/tropical storm is expected Monday night.
Fireworks are going to have fit in between deluges.

I’m going to get 100 friends to go in together with our extra 16 cents. That should be enough for what, three packages of hot dogs? We can draw numbers to see who gets one.

And the cost of everything else is going up. Just got this notice from my meal kit company:

Quote
At Sunbasket, our mission is to make healthy eating easy and delicious—with organic fresh produce, sustainable ingredients, and tons of dinner, breakfast, lunch, and snack options. It’s easier than ever to eat well and feel great:

36 healthy & delicious meals to choose from every week.
You cook, or we cook for you! Meal Kits for when you want to get hands-on, Fresh & Ready meals when you don’t.
Over 50 protein options from chicken to scallops to plant based …. Make each meal yours, always wildly delicious.
Add Market items to your basket for feel-good foods to savor any time of day.

As many of us have seen in the news, food and fuel prices have risen sharply this year. In order to maintain our commitment to the highest quality ingredients and sustainable business practices, we’re adjusting our pricing.
We know price is an important consideration for our customers, so we have worked hard to address costs thoughtfully.

Effective July 14th, prices are increasing an additional $1 per serving and an extra $2 for shipping.

So fuck you, Joe Biden.

Most small businesses don't do strict cost accounting to set charges.  They set charges high enough that their total income covers their overall costs and provide a profit.  They probably just figured that an extra $2 per order was needed to help them meet their goals.

Possibly, but the vendor specifically mentioned fuel prices "have risen sharply"

I don’t know because I haven’t been with them long enough. I only joined when fuel was low. However, they must pay what FedEx charges them. So I wonder if FedEx lowers rates when fuel prices go down.

Sunbasket has stiff competition from Blue Apron, Hello Fresh, and others, so it’s not like say, my cable/internet provider, who just raised our rate by $40 a month because we have no other high speed option.

Most shippers have a fuel surcharge.   During the last administration when our country was energy independent, surcharges were not charged or amounted to very, very little.   Now that we are becoming dependent once again and our energy cost are rising, those sur charges are coming back into play.

Don’t I know it. I audit rail freight and see the fuel surcharges for all the Class I carriers, and short lines too for that matter. But I don’t do trucking although I have access to the data. During the Trump administration there was one carrier that even had a negative fuel charge. Oil was so low they paid you a fuel discount to ship with them.

They change every month tied to the price of crude. These costs are passed to the shippers who pass them to the consignees who pass them to distributors (like grocery stores) who pass them to you and me.

These trains (and trucks) carry the stuff that goes into everything you eat. Soybean oil, corn oil, sugar, flour, beans, grains, fertilizer for growing it, feed for the cattle and poultry, tallow and other animal products made from them, and we also audit lumber, limestone, petroleum that goes into plastics manufacture. Literally every single thing you buy has baked into it the price of crude.

This is the connection that fucking idiots like Biden and liberals in general can’t see. Hurting our oil industry (such as canceling keystone) has a direct impact on food prices and all goods and services which doesn’t impact the political elite (won’t hurt Pelosi’s ability to keep her gourmet ice cream) but directly affects basic survival for the most disadvantaged. Who might that be? The poor and even the middle classes trying to save for retirement.

You want to help inner city blacks? Follow Trump’s policies of expanding America’s energy independence and drilling for oil. There is a direct link between food price inflation and the price of crude. The left bleat about racism and identity politics while directly causing the rise of food prices for these groups while they comfortably fly around in their jets and eat at four star restaurants. Fuck them all.

They see it, they just don't care.   After all, it's not the elite class that will suffer, actually the elites will profit from it.

A vibrant growing middle class is what separates the US from the rest of the world, and goes against what the DCP and establishment republicans want.  If they make decisions that profit themselves and their donor class and hurt the middle class, they just shrug and move on.

You have to wonder right now how much money they are racking in under dementia Joe.

I have a FB friend that sent me this in an email:

Quote
The knowledgeable and rational Democrats in the administration understand that if current spending programs are to be sustained that tax revenues must increase dramatically because the current rate of deficit spending is not sustainable without triggering severe economic consequences such as the devaluation of the US dollar and run away inflation.

They also understand that even if they were to double the corporate tax rate and raise the top individual tax rate to 70%, even those Draconian tax increases would generate only a small fraction of the extra tax revenues required to bring the deficit back to manageable levels.

So how do you increase tax revenues from the middle class without committing political suicide by raising their individual income tax rates?

The answer is a "Carbon tax" which on its face would only be born by "evil corporations" such as oil and gas companies, trucking companies, automobile manufacturers, retail chains and the rest of the US Manufacturing sector.  In its final form, that new "carbon tax" could easily generate another Trillion plus in Federal tax revenues every year but who would actually wind up paying it?

The answer is the vast majority of middle class American consumers who would see the prices of virtually everything they buy increase to offset the cost increases imposed on those "evil corporations" by the new carbon tax who will then have to pass on those increased operating costs to the consumers of their products.  That is how you generate more tax revenues from the middle class.  You have corporations do it for you as they pass through that new tax to the consumer and become a defacto tax collector for the Federal Government.

And that is before a lot more of US manufacturing gets driven out of business by foreign competitors who already enjoy dramatically lower labor costs and won't have the added cost burden of a "Carbon tax" on the vehicles, electronics and appliances they produce in their home countries.

Now you understand why Democrats are pushing so hard for a virtuous sounding  "Carbon tax".

I hope so.  People never appreciate something so much as when it's taken away.  They had their freedom taken away for a year.  Now they are taking it back even against the wishes of our democrat and swamp overlords.  I truly hope that the next time it's tried the people will recognize it for the power grab it is.  WE THE PEOPLE are waking up.

I really hope so but I have my doubts. Some people just seem too prone to fearmongering. And sometimes I think we have lost our heart. The basic soul of the land of the free and the brave. If we are that, how did it come to this? How did we allow it for a year in the first place?

Fear, and misinformation used as propaganda by Big Tech and the MSM.

This is why Big Tech is on the big push for censorship, and to bring censorship in as the "new normal".

None of this that has and is happening is new, it's just a rearrangement of previous over throws.   The DCP got lucky with the help of the CCP and covid.

Those adjectives merely narrowed down the number of Dems that understand to ~1 (or maybe 2).

But actually, even they DON'T understand.  Generally, raising tax rates reduces revenue.  Trump lowered tax rates and revenue increased.  Unfortunately, spending increased faster.

My brother was at Road America for the Indy race on Father’s Day. He said the same thing.

By the way I flew just to the south of Road America. There was a TFR but I wasn’t sure it was active so I stayed outside of it. If you zoom in the road track is towards the top of the picture.
