I have an cow-orker that I've spoken of before, real germophobe. Gets tested at the slightest sniffle, and yells at me when I have a sniffle. Can't believe i don't want to be tested and don't want to know.
I really could give a flying fuck. If I'm sick enough to see a doctor, I'll see a doctor, otherwise who gives a shit what gave me the sniffle.

When my husband was working, if I got the sniffles and tested myself for Covid and it was positive, he would have had to stay home from work for two weeks, according to company mandate, even if he never got sick. I’d rather not know. Thank goodness he’s retired now and I won’t have to face that moral dilemma. There were some people at work that abused that, for the extra paid “sick leave”.
The stay at home lockdowns have enabled a whole lot of laziness and we will pay a massive price in the form of inflation, food shortages, travel problems, maybe even power fluctuations. You don’t tell a nation to go home and not bother working for two years over a disease with a 1% death rate. That is crystal clear now. Will TPTB learn the lesson? Hell no. They learned that they can use it to buy an election. That’s all that matters. Destroying the economy, driving the middle class down into poverty, massively increasing the crime rate, suicide and drug addiction, none of that matters to them, just winning an election.

Exactly. I got pretty sick a couple weeks ago. Thought about getting tested, but then decided not. If I have covid then I'll stay home and get better. If I don't have covid then I'll stay home and get better. Testing doesn't change my behavior any so why bother?
If everyone tested all the time then 5% would be nothing significant. Especially if no one is getting seriously ill. If only sick people got tested then 5% would be an indication that not all sickness is covid and covid is nothing special. Yeah... people don't understand percentages and even fewer care to look at the data and how it was collected.

I got sick last week on Saturday on our cruise. Not covid. Usually, I would take some Nyquil, good night sleep, and I would be good in the morning. Still fighting it. I think all this lockdown bullshit has weakened our immune systems (by design) so snake oil salesman (big pharma) can continue to make billions on false promises of fake cures.

No... just sick enough and transmissible enough so they are justified in locking everyone down. The virus itself can't survive if it kills its host. Like Pope Tony and Big Pharma and Big Government can't survive if it kills the population. They have to make it just scared enough to obey.

The positive test rate (in Rhode Island) was 2.4% six weeks ago. Last reported, it's 5.2%, so it has almost doubled. There is a clear upward swing in the curve. So far it's isolated to the north east, but it's clearly spreading out.
The symptoms are very similar to the previous variant, which is to say similar to the flu.

Changes to the positive test rate are meaningless unless you know about both the numerator and denominator
2.4% of 100,000 tests would be 2400 positives
5.2% of 10000 tests would 520 positives. which, of course, would be a good trend instead of time to PANIC
manipulate the numerator and/or denominator to manipulate the message...

That presumes that people are testing at the same rate. Are they? I don’t know about the coasts, but here in the Midwest this thing is over. People who get sick aren’t testing. Why bother? The treatment would be the same. Employers have stopped tracing or even asking people to rekey if they’re positive. Just stay home, like any other sickness.
If people have modified their approach to testing, and are now only getting tested if they are really sick, then the positive rate may not really be increasing.
Example. If 1,000 people got tested in February, 24 of them would be sick. Now if only 500 get tested in April, 26 of them would be sick. Basically no increase in cases, even though the rate is increasing.
