Title: Can you guess the answer to this problem?
Post by: Jim Logajan on October 27, 2021, 08:40:36 PM
If a rope hangs from a helicopter that is moving forward, what shape does it make hanging down?
What if there is a weight at the end of the rope, same shape or different?
Lastly, what if there is a parachute at the end of the rope?

I guessed wrong on the first question but that was because I didn’t put much effort into it. Even if I had I’m not sure I would have decomposed the problem correctly. I didn’t bother trying to answer the next two questions.

I got the first one wrong but I have a problem with how the question is worded. I’m not going to say what for fear of influencing others who might want to work it out.  I got the next two questions right.

Well, without watching, question I have include how high is the helicopter? and how long is the rope?

and what are the prevailing winds?

and is the helicopter on a treadmill?   <========= that question really captures my interest in the subject...
