I'm not talking about wages or pensions or purchasing or construction contracts or even Social Security, because that is not "giving money". It is paying back a contractual debt.
I'm talking about things like:
SSI,
WIC
EBT,
Medicaid,
Obamacare subsidies,
disability
Unemployment compensation
What other programs are designed to take money from some people and give it to other people? And how much does that all add up to?

Civil asset forfeiture.

The three separate covid "stimulus" checks

There are “Now hiring” signs all over town here. Apparently nobody wants to work.

They make more not working, IOW, it’s working as planned.
In certain areas McDonalds is paying $50 just to show up for an interview.
-
Signs are up everywhere for jobs open.
I know some restaurants here in DFW that cannot open at 100% due to not being able to get enough staff.
We have been fortunate at our office to get a new employee who shows up on time, does her work, and is glad to have the job. She is not a super fast learner, but once she gets it, she does the task very well. I think she is going to do well over time.
-
The people that wanted to work in the restaurants here came back to work last April and were happy to do so. We see hiring signs all over here in the ATL. At first "Uncle" was pitching an extra $600 a week and now it is still $300 a week. Add that to what the state pays, it's not bad. I'm sure the Democrats would like to make that permanent.

Or more likely, nobody wants to do that job for that wage. There are lot of jobs I'd do if they paid more.

Or more precisely:
. . . nobody wants to do that job for that wage WHEN THEY CAN RECEIVE MORE MONEY FOR NOT WORKING.
I guarantee you, when the unemployment benefits run out, people will be begging for those jobs.

Talked with a couple of folks about 30 years old maybe younger that are looking for work. They are being picky and looking for the best they can get. As one said get in now, when the unemployment runs out there will be a lot of people looking then. Her opinion was get in now, get the best job you can and build your rep with the company. Both said they know too many people just waiting until the benefits run out.

Smart young lady.

Local fast food places are offering attendance bonuses if you come to work when you are supposed to. A friend offered me a job over the weekend. I have zero experience in this field but it's a supervisor/ admin position. His reason is he knows I'm capable of learning the job and am dependable. He also stated they have a hard time finding people that can fill out paperwork correctly.

Attendance bonus? Never heard of it. Tried to be fair minded and looked it up. Sorry I did so. Lots of HR sites discussing pros and cons. A convoluted mess. Often seen as DISCRIMINATORY. Exacerbated by the very idea that a monetary incentive for doing the right thing, is the right thing to do.

Do I dare ask how it is discriminatory?

Say you have small children at home, or otherwise are a caregiver and not entirely in charge of your time because emergencies arise. Your coworkers are getting largish sums and you’re not.

And yet some people with small children at home have no problem expecting single or childless coworkers to work weekends or other undesirable shifts.

Yep. The whole problem with people with small children at home came about with feminism when women decided they were entitled to a full time career and motherhood, and the rest of society needs to bend to accommodate them.
So they work less hours and on top of everyone else having to make up the difference, now they scream “sexism” because of lower earnings, when the wage gap is 100% caused by their lower performance, not sexism.

When I was single, I volunteered to do that, as I worked in the Health, Safety and Security Department at a nuclear project that required someone on duty at all hours. I emphasize that I volunteered. No one ever asked me to cover for them, but they were quite grateful that I did. That’s how civilized, responsible people treat each other.
If, however, they had expected it and whined “unfair,” I would quietly have gone about taking the holiday for myself. That’s how a civilized, responsible person responds to an entitled asshole. :)

fair point... and I modified my post to clarify that I was really referring to some people, not everyone.

Whenever you measure something like this and split people into groups, invariably the groups are going to come out different. You could measure this by gender and it would favor one group above the other 142 and therefore be discriminatory.
Also, I believe HR made a freudian slip. They didn't intend to say that black people tend to be less stringent about their attendance at work, even though that's what they believe.

I think you are misusing the words "favor" and "discriminatory"

Civil asset forfeiture.
Civil asset forfeiture is actually taking from the people and giving to the government but in reality it is redistribution. It takes money from those who carry cash (not a crime) and gives to government entities, meaning, corrupt individuals who did not earn it.
In similar vein is excessive fines, such as this man fined $30,000 for not cutting his grass:

Police departments and local governments actually budget to receive these incomes which is simply giveaway bonuses to the people working in those departments.

Thank you for saying that! 38 years in my profession as a CPA and I can’t say such a thing in my own firm, or any firm.
Even back in 1995 when I was with Deloitte, they had every single employee from Manager through Partner attend a two-day “Men and Women as Colleagues” seminar, offsite at a conference center. Each region held their own sessions. I was a manager at the time.
I remember a woman, who was a senior manager (one level below partner) complaining that the partner took a client hunting every year, and didn’t invite her. I asked if she would have gone if she was invited, and she said no. Someone asked what the partner should have done, and she said the partner should have found an activity that both she and the client liked. So even though the client was a passionate hunter, I guess he should have wanted to hike, shop, or visit wineries.
I knew 25 years ago we were doomed.

I guess the concept that the client liked hunting and the trip was a way to keep him a client was completely lost on her, and that if she tried to make him do an activity he didn't like could have cost the company their business.

I learned quickly in my industry that “flexible schedules” actually meant inflexible schedules.
Except for the few committed professionals who did what was needed to get things done, in my experience the burden always fell on the full time people to carry the weight of extra work demanded from a client.

That’s exactly right. It was all about her, with no recognition of what the client wanted.

The lack of male only bonding time is bad for society. It’s virtually (and often literally) illegal now, yet Women Only clubs are everywhere.
